What I like about Emma

Merry Emma is my favorite Austen novel. I love the feeling of the book. It’s light and it’s funny, a 18 century chick-lit or something. At least that’s how I see it. But what I really like about this book are the characters. They are so human. I think it’s the only Austen novel where all the characters seem real to me. I love how Emma is proud and a little bit arrogant, how Harriet is kind but foolish and – sorry – kind of stupid and malleable as dough. Miss Bates sounds exactly like my downstairs neighbor. I can’t pass in front of her door without having to stay 15 minutes chatting with her. Sweet but inconvenient.
I love this book. I hope I'm not the only one.

Astra You forgot to mention how epicly awesome Mr. Knightly is!

True. I thought I should give people space to say it. He is awesome though.

Astra Emma is the best of all the Austen books! I think if someone ofered me the chance to switch bodys with Emma I would, wouldn't you?

Christina Yes, my favorite Jane Austen, as well. Pitch perfect. Best of all, Austen manages an unswerving honesty in examining her heroine, balanced with a genuinely compassionate goodwill. So, we, the readers, also grow to love Emma truly and deeply, as Mr. Knightly does, without ever excusing or trivializing her faults.

Nouran Gamal it's my favorite novel not just for Austen but my favorite all time book, i read it once a year

Samantha Emma is my favorite Austen book as well. She is just so loveable despite her faults.

I love the way you put that. :) That's exactly why I love Emma so much. And Emma does try to change after Mr. K gets onto her... :)

Christina Thanks, Aerykah. Yes, she does. Emma's willingness to bear criticism, reflect on her faults, and improve is, I think, her most endearing characteristic. She's teachable.

Anam syed Emma is one of my favourites out of all the jane austen's book i've read.
There is something about the characters especially emma that keeps the readers attached to the book

alexxus kristyn Although the film adaption of Pride & Prejudice will forever be my favorite to watch of all the Jane Austen adaptions, I just finished Emma, and I have to say, I enjoyed it far better than I enjoyed P&P. I loved Emma. I felt like she, and all the rest of the characters, were extremely human, and all unique in their personalites and quirks.

And, Mr. Knightely, is amazingness. Asdfghjkl.
