Sarah (m_sarah) | 60 comments It is common knowledge that the human body is made of approximatively 60% of water.

Read a book with the word body in its title or subtitle

OR

Read a book with a percentage in its title or subtitle (the percentage can be written in a symbol (%) or in letters (percent, percentage...), in any case : it must contain a number).

Oh man are there a lot of books that include the words "Confessions of." Read one of these books.

I know we did one a few seasons ago that was "The ____ Who ____." That was a fun one because it was a challenge to find a book that fit. This one wouldn't be as hard, but it could still be interesting to see whose "confessions" everyone reads!

ETA
I like the song lyric tasks people have been doing...what if there was one where the book's title had to come from some song title/lyric? That could be really fun--see what different songs people know and all that.

Cindy | 987 comments All 3 months end in ber. Read a book with a word ending in ber.

Read a book with a word that is synonym for fall. Eg. Autumn. Drop. Sink. Collapse

I like these ideas!

message 105: by Lorna (new)

Lorna | 526 comments Profiles of Fall - Profiles are unique and interesting. Read a book with a profile of a person's body or face on the cover.

Bring on the Treats! - Children and grown-ups alike love Halloween candy. Read a book with something sweet on the cover such as candy or dessert.

Initially Speaking - Read a book by an author who uses his or her initials instead of a first name.

Halloween Colors - Halloween is all about black cats and orange pumpkins. Read a book that has a black and/or orange cover.

9,10 & 11 - Sept. Oct. and Nov. are the 9th, 10th and 11th months of the year. Read a book in which the numbers in the total pages added together equal 9, 10 or 11. (A book with 253 pages would equal 10 etc.)

message 109: by Jennifer W (new)

Jennifer W | 466 comments Daylight savings time ends for many of us in the fall, giving us an extra hour of sleep. Read an "extra" book: a prequel or a .5 in a series.

The highest point on the Eastern Seaboard of the US is Cadillac Mountain in Maine. Read a book set in Maine or a book with the brand name of a car in the title or author's name (anything mentioning Abraham *Lincoln* or author *Ford* Maddox Ford, for example).

These are both cute :D What about a 4th (or 5th or 6th book (I'm looking at you, Hitchhiker's Guide)) in a trilogy, too, for the "extra" book?

Donna Jo Atwood | 2412 comments Initially: Read a book by an author who uses an initial in his/her name: Johnny D. Boggs, .W.E.B. Griffin,D. Brenton Simons, .H D.

message 113: by Jayme Pendergraft (last edited Aug 13, 2012 12:24PM) (new)

Jayme Pendergraft | 762 comments Read a book in which water travel is a main theme. Ex Life on the Mississippi; Captain Blood; Treasure Island; Kon-Tiki

Read a book that's title and author's name contains all the letters in your first name. I know this might be hard for people with names like Elizabeth, so maybe we could include nick names for people over a certain number of letters.

Read a book about a mythical sea creature: Listopia Lists:
http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/38...
http://www.goodreads.com/list/show/35...

Fall Back- read a book set at least 100 years in the past.

April Dee wrote: "i never got the whole need for a 3 month summer, since australia does year round school - you do 4 10 week terms with 2 weeks in between each and then about 6 weeks for the summer"

I wish we did that here. I would rather go on vacation in September/October than July. July is hot pretty much everywhere I can get to easily.

BUT Septem is 7, Octo is 8, and Novem is 9 in Latin, so use the numbers of 7-11

I was hoping some were up early too.

message 120: by Megan (new)

Megan Anderson (ms_anderson) | 1464 comments I can't wait to see the tasks. I've been looking at my library's site finding all kinds of books I'd like to use, but I can't pick for real until the tasks are up ;_;

Mine too! But we're leaving for vacation early Saturday morning, so I don't know when I'm going to get to start planning this time around.

message 125: by Coralie (new)

Coralie I was totally without internet or computer access for the first week the tasks came out last time. I had to keep inviting myself to visit various members of the family, then spent most of the time I was their connected to their internet.

message 126: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8948 comments Lol coralie!!!

I am bribing myself with tasks because I need to work on my dissertation so for every page I write I can plan 4 tacks - let's see if it works

That's awesome lol What about a dissertation task? Read a book about a topic you'd be willing to study hardcore? *GRIN*

message 128: by Sassafrass (new)

Sassafrass (sass-a-frass) | 891 comments Hmmmm, I'm wondering then if I could get my PhD in romance. LMAO, that's the only thing I've been studying lately! ;P

message 129: by Megan (new)

Megan Anderson (ms_anderson) | 1464 comments I was thinking nonfiction, but I believe there's some books about "romance" through the ages in the library *_~

message 130: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8948 comments There is a popular romance study being done right now...the installment I read today was abt a group dynamics theory applied to the In Death series

Kristina Simon (kristinasimon) | 11205 comments Thanks to everyone for some really great ideas for the Fall 2012 Challenge! The 5-15 point tasks and some 30 point tasks are up and the rest will follow in the coming days as they are available. We hope you see something you like and that the tasks lead you to some great reads this fall!

message 134: by Megan (new)

Megan Anderson (ms_anderson) | 1464 comments I am so excited right now, you seriously have no idea. New Task Day has arrived! *squee!*

message 135: by Marie-Anne (new)

Marie-Anne | 950 comments For me, the fall is centered around ballet. I am a volunteer (costumes) for a local ballet company, and many weekend (and other) hours go into preparing dancers for the Nutcracker.

Tasks around the ballet, either Nutcracker characters or ballet dancers and ballet music would be great fun.

message 139: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8948 comments I'm confused what you are asking Lindy - do you want to participate?

message 140: by Lindy (new)

Lindy (lindylee) | 17 comments yes, i want in

message 141: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 8948 comments ok, first thing you need to do is sign up in the readerboard thread - http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/4... - with your unique name for tracking points

then go to the task thread - http://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/9... and start finding some tasks you want to read books for - the points for the tasks are the first number in the task, so 5.1 is a 5 point task, 20.2 is a 20 point task

each task on the thread has a link to the spread thread for that task where you can check if books work for it or not...

and have fun
