Norman | 13 comments I've just added That First Time: Six Renga on Love and Other Poems by Hiroaki Sato and discovered that it shares ISBN 0932662684 with Weymouth: An Anthology of Poetry (same publisher and author), and published before the book I'm adding.

I've left the ISBN field blank on That First Time and added a note on the description. I guess this is a screw-up on the publisher's part, but would appreciate some advice.

Beth (bethjustbeth) | 1568 comments You did it correctly. ISBN's are often reused...one of our pet peeves, but we've learned to live with it. :)

Norman | 13 comments Thanks for the quick responses. I only came across such a thing once before. Do ISBN's cost money in the States or what?

Should I add a note to the Weymouth record in case anyone is searching for That First Time via ISBN and thinks they're losing their marbles?

Last I checked, unlike Canada the ISBN agency there does charge a fee for assigning an ISBN.

ISBNs cost money everywhere. In some countries, that cost is borne by a government agency.

Norman | 13 comments Well, I meant 'cost money to the publisher'. Sorry if that wasn't clear. ISBNs are cost-free to publishers in some (most?) countries.
