City of Bones question

I think we can't really judge if they will do good unless the movie comes out. So physically, I do agree that Jamie didn't reached my expectations of what Jace looked like at first but I do believe that the casting directors and Cassie approved of him for a reason,(although i think Cassie's approval isn't really needed with the casting process, but she made it clear that Jamie and Lily had great chemistry) and that reason would be visible through the screen when the film comes out.

I suggest we give all of them a chance and if you believe that they didn't do well in the movies then go ahead and be upset and whine all you want. As of now, let's just be happy that they are really pushing through the movie. :)

I like Lily Collins as Clary but hate Jamie Campbell Bower as Jace. In my head Jace looks like Alex Pettyfer for sure. As far as personality, I don't know them so all I can go by is the parts I've seen them in and IMO Pettyfer is still a much better fit than Bower. As far as them looking pretty- the book told me Jace was hot so I want him hot... yep still going with Pettyfer! :)

At first, I couldn't see Lily being Clary at all but then I saw her in Mirror, Mirror and I could see it. When they casted Jamie as Jace I was pissed because I thought it was a horrible choice but then I saw this screentest (http://theshadowhunterscodex.tumblr.c...) with them and thought, it might actually work.
I liked the rest of the cast but I thought Robert Sheehan was a really bad choice for Simon when I first saw the annoucnement on Cassie's tumblr a few weeks ago but after watching some scenes of him in his old TV show, Misfits, I realized that, that guy, Robert Sheehan, was made to be Simon. Now I couldn't picture anyone different!

Alex Pettyfer was offered Jace's character, but he turned it down.
I wish he hadn't though because he would've made a FINE Jace!!
The character currently cast as Jace looks creepy and weird and not gorgeous and incredible. I actually thought he was a girl when I first saw a picture of him...

Lily though I'm okay with as a Clary...

i agree!! i was super disappointed with Clary's casting.. and as for Jace i agree Alex Pettyfer was great fit.

Wow Angela you're super harsh. You can't just go on throwing bad words at people just because you're opposed to their opinion. That's like acting like a super brat. And you call yourself "too nice?"

Anyway...

Looks aren't as important as their acting abilities. I mean just look at what happened to Twilight. But the thing is, it's also important to choose people that PORTRAY the characters really well, so actually, that includes physical appearance. You have to LOOK the part and PLAY the part.

I don't like the guy playing as Jace (Jamie) because he looks too old for a 17-year-old. I think they should have picked younger-looking people for the cast because the series has six books. So once all the books have been turned into movies, instead of seeing teenagers becoming adults, we're just gonna see adults becoming ... well OLDER.

Yes. Ever since there were rumors speculating about Lily Collins playing Clary I was disappointed. I've seen her in several different films, and I just don't see how she would ever fit into the role of Clary. It doesn't work for her. Besides, she won't ever fully achieve Clary's look in my eyes. (I know this was addressed in Angela's comment above form July 30th, but really, it's not just looks. It's all the characters I've seen her play as well. You are entitled to your opinion though, as everyone else is).
Jamie doesn't look like Jace to me. Alex Pettyfer was a closer rendition to how I picture Jace. Jamie does look rather older, and definitely not as "Jacely" as I had pictured throughout reading, but that's kind of how Twilight turned out. I'll probably grow to love him. So... yeah.
Of course, my vision is probably much different then a lot of people's. I never pictured Magnus as asian (sorry, i mean no offense by that at all, couldn't figure out how to word it better D: ) but I'm sure it'll grow on me as well, even though I will always keep my version of Magnus close to me heart as I read the books.

In the end, I think it comes down to everyone having their own opinions and own vision of the characters in their head. The casting directors made their decisions and that's what all fans are going to have to accept. I mean, the casting directors are professionals in their fields, and no matter how much the fans like/dislike a certain choice, they are going to be stuck with them. If you really don't care for someone, you'll just have to deal with the choice, but most, like me, will go and see all the movies anyways in support of the book turned movie itself, rather then focus on their dislike of the cast. And, if the movies turn out really bad, then everyone will probably just stop watching them, and they producers will stop making them. So, somewhere, a balance will get struck, and everyone will find some sort of happiness in there.

Why couldn't they pick some random, attractive blond male who is also a good actor?
Why do all roles have to be played by known actors?
How about people we don't even know about?

I agree I don't really like the casting in the movie. I'm on the 3rd book and I am loving the series. I loved Alex Pettyfer as Jace and although I am dissapointed, I know he turned it down so i'll get over that. I like Jamie okay and maybe he'll do a good job, although he's not how I pictured him. Lily Collins doesn't look as much like I though Clary might but maybe she'll do a good job along with Jamie. I guess i'll just have to wait for the movie.

I'm not keen on who they've picked for the cast and I think its all going to go down hill if Jamie and Lilly split up because they're chemistry on set will crumble and effect the entire film series.

i hated the casting, lily is ok cos i like her but i cant really picture her playing the type of character clary is. the girly side - yes but the shadowhunter stuff -no. and omg do not ever get me started on the guy playing jace, i hate his guts, i really dont like him and im pissed off at alex for turning down jace cos he is literally the perfect jace. i dont think anyone imagined jace as anyone but alex pettyfer, srsly. aside from them, i dont like valentine, simon, alec nor izzy's casting. i am so disappointed. i was so hopeful for this but my hopes and dreams have crashed. i watched the trailer tho and it was ok-ish until jamie-whatever-his-stupid-name came on screen and then opened his mouth. JACE DOES NOT TALK LIKE THAT!!!! ugh anyways i dont hink i will watch it, maybe but not out of wanting to, just for the sake of my love (which is now fast diminishing) for TMI.

I think Lily Collins is fine and pretty much the rest of the cast is fine but I do really wish that Alex Pettyfer had not turned down that offer to play Jace because he would have been the perfect Jace. Honestly, I never imagined Jamie being Jace and I am disappointed with the casting but then again we have no right to judge since the movie hasn't come out yet.

I am soooo glad im not the only one. personally im very disapointed with the cast. i dont really see lilly collins as a clary type of girl. and arent the characters all 15 i mean they look like they could play 17 year olds at the most. And the actor playing jace is soooooo not hot enough to do this role justice frankly its just sad

I just have to say that I hate who they casted for clary and jace. Lily looks nothing like the clary that is described and neither does jace. I've never seen the movie but I don't know if I ever will, having been so disappointed in the casting. I've seen how Isabelle looks and i'm suprisingly sastisfied with her, but Clary is supposed to be shorter than her by quite a significant amount and she's actually taller than her! And jace is also supposed to be shorter than Alec but he's taller too! Wtf! I don't mind how simon looks though. I didn't get a good look at Alec, but from what I saw I don't especially like him either. This is literally the first time I've ever disliked the cast of a movie I wanted to see. I know that alex pettyfer declined the offer for the role of jace, but Alexander ludwig, William moseley, or Sterling knight would have made good Jace's too! Also, I feel like Ellen page or Ariana grande would have made waaaay better Clary's than Lily. I know I'll probably come to love them if I ever watch the movie but I feel like the casting director just randomly picked his actors without even looking. I know that Cassandra couldn't possibly agree with the director's choices so I wish she would have spoken up more. I know that if I was ever in that situation that I definitely would, regardless of the consequences, because otherwise I would feel like the movie was ruined by them and would serve no purpose.

I think Lilly Collins kind of fits clary... does she dye her hair red for the movie? I hope so. But Jace in the movie does not fit jace in the book

I just saw the movie last night. That Jamie guy (jace) is not only hideous, he's a terrible actor. I've been bragging about how this is my favorite series to everyone... Then we watched the movie together and I was mortified. I can't even stand to look at him. Another bad one is Alec... He looks like he's 30! Wth?! Isabelle isn't a horrible actress or anything-she just doesn't fit. The whole movie was garbage. My imagination is way better than that movie any day.
I'm just so disappointed in Jace I can't get over it. Everyone else I can deal with but not him.. He's gross looking. Jace is supposed to be sexy.. It's what makes him jace!! It's just a sorry movie and I don't see how Cassandra could possibly be even slightly pleased with it. I won't be able to watch the next movies if they keep Jamie. So disappointed.. :(

Here's the thing...I don't really like who they've cast except for Magnus. This movie is so character-based, that it's kind of important what the characters look like. Even though Alex P. has the right look, all his movies don't do very well. So, I guess that could be a positive of him turning the movie down. Also, as much as I hate to say it, you can't really go off of what Cassie Clare says about the cast. She doesn't have any say really, so she's kind of forced to say she likes them. Plus, it would be terrible press if the author of the book came out and said she hated the people they cast.

Looks aside, I don't particularly like the acting abilities of the people playing Jace and Clary. Every movie I've seen either of them in, I haven't liked. I also have seen the behind the scenes footage, and right now I don't like how it's looking. The makeup looks terrible, and there's just something off. Maybe everything will be better with CGI and the other effects, but right now...I'm not very excited. I almost wish Cassie Clare would have held out for a better production company (maybe somebody like Warner Brothers). I'll probably still see the movie when it comes out, but my expectation are basically shot now :(

I thought Alex Pettyfer was a good choice at the beginning, but now that I am keeping up with the filming, I think Jamie as Jace is a good pick. Maybe he's not perfect, but I think the way he acts is a good fit. Alex Pettyfer doesn't exactly have the exact coloring and I think he's a little too tall. I also think his acting style is not for Jace's character.

I couldn't imagine any actress I knew as Clary, but I pictured Jace as Alex Pettyfer.
Some books like this one are just good as they are; they don't need a movie to strengthen the character and plot visualization, but oh well, I guess I'd see the movie if it came out.
On a totally unrelated subject, I wish they'd make a movie of the other shadowhunter series, the Infernal Devices; that one has a strong plot to sustain a better movie.

At fist I was slightly.... depressed becouse I didn't think that Lilly is the right choice for Clary. But then I watched some movies with her and the turned out to be quite good actress, so now I'm quite happy.
But Jami Campbell- Bowie.... I can't even think about it. Disaster.

Well they can't cast someone who EVERYONE would like because all people have different ideas of how a character look inside their head. They can't choose someone that all fans agree with. You just have to get used to it because there is no point moaning when it will get you nowhere.
And I'm in favour for all the casting choices but I need to see them act in City of Bones.

Cassie loves them, so I love them. If they are as she sees the characters, then they are perfect. She is the creator, after all!

I think Alex Pettyfer would have been a better choice but apparently Mr. Pettyfer wants 'something bigger. Something outside Teen movies.'
Well, seeing the current cinema movie list. He had definitely gone outside of 'teen' movies.

Cassandra choose them because not by their look, but their personality. They were good actors/actress and that they were able to act those character. This is the fucking reason why I loathe America sometime is because all they care about is there look! You are scum are fucking blind! Look at yourself and your flaw before you judge someone else.
Plus, there is 6 movie so can you really see Alex P. in another 6-7 year? He will be old!
Give them a fucking chance! Just open your damn heart and not with your eyes. I know I am a bitch but I'm so sick of people who just want to fuck someone just because their are hot and not who they are! I would love to make more threat but I guess I'm to nice to not make other feel bad.
