I'm new, too, today, and was delighted to discover this book group! I enjoy mysteries, including many current authors, but the ones I love most are the ones that feel like the classic mysteries of Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers, and others. So I'm delighted to join your monthly book reading -- already I've seen numerous authors that are new to me. Thank you!
Welcome. I was also excited to see people who shared my taste in classic mysteries and that there was a book club for us. I searched for a long time trying to find one as I love the same authors you mentioned and many others. (I also like old American mysteries, but English authors are some of my favorites.) I have been a big fan of Agatha Christie for years!!!
My name is Cindy. Glad to be here. Looking forward to some great discussions!!! I love my girls Agatha C. and Dorothy S.!!!

Thank you for the welcome!! I already had next month's read checked out from the library...so it must be fate. Looking forward to reading and discussing
Hi - I'm Jean. I'm very pleased to find this group as it seems to include some books I've already read and others I've not heard of. An ideal mix! I look forward to joining in group reads and discussions.
Hi, I'm Xan (Alexandra) and I love british mysteries, except possibly for Agatha Christie because I always seem to know who did it and how it was done by page 5 and am only reading to find out why, which isn't very satisfying. I know this will be considered sacrilege to many of you, which is why I'm including it in my intro - so you can get the thrashing over with!
Welcome to the group Xan. I'm impressed that you can figure out the murderer so fast. Somehow I never can figure that out ( even though I try to think of the most unlikely candidate). I can see how that might lessen the appeal of the book.
Hi! This is the first time I join a book club, happy to be a part of it and discovering its pleausures. "Last seen wearing "was my first English mistery book! Loved Morse, specially the fact that he seems a more human kind of detective because he doesn't get it right easily...
Thank you Arpita, for introducing me to goodreads!
Welcome Sofia! Several of us are reading the Morse series one book each month, and just finished Last Seen Wearing in July. You can find it under 'Discussions - Buddy read an inspector morse??' or use the link here
That's an incredible coincidence as I'd decided to do exactly that - work through all the Morse novels in sequence. Not only that, but I have just read the first two so far - which is what the group has done! I should have found you 2 months ago - or was somebody sending me telepathic messages? :)
I've written reviews of the 1st 2.
I've written reviews of the 1st 2.
Welcome Sofia ( waves ). Hope you enjoy our readalongs. I've read some great books so far with this group.

I totally agree Jean-Luke.

I AGREE with Jean-Luke!!
Clearly you can't trust Reuters to report on classic English novels! Here's a link -- they really did screw it up: http://www.reuters.com/article/2013/0...
I suspect heads will roll for this one, in the new sequel Martin Amis is writing to Guy de Maupassant's Tale of Two Cities!
Hi Everyone! My name is Mo. I just happened to get They Found Him Dead out of the library today, so I thought I'd join your group since it is your selection for Sept. I may be a little late to join the discussions (I won't be able to start the book until next week), but I'm looking forward to reading all of your comments.
BTW, this is one of the very few Georgette Heyer novels I have not yet read. She is one of my favorite authors.

Welcome Mo, from another Heyer fan!
Hi, I new also, lured in by the promise of English mystery discussions. I saw this month's featured book is Case Histories by Kate Atkinson. I just love Kate Atkinson and am re-reading this book on order to join in the discussion.
Hello everyone! I'm Joanne and a newbie. I'm very interested in this group as mysteries are my favorite genre and English mysteries are my most favorite. I've read a lot of the classic English writers and am always happy to discover a new writer and especially a new detective series. Thanks for having this group. I plan to chime in on the June nominations and then participate in book discussions.
Hello, my name is Roy Dimond author of Silence and Circumstance about the 11 days that Agatha Christie went missing and The Singing BowlI offer here a fascinating article about a newly discovered manuscript of Mrs. Christie's that has just been discovered. I hope you enjoy...

I love this book! My copy is, unfortunately, a paperback without pictures, but she writes so evocatively that I've always been able to picture the places in my mind. You're right, Roy, given the circumstances of the news, a re-read is in order.
We really are going to lose some of humanities history, culture, a past that belongs to all of us, for what? There is a reason I titled my book Silence and Circumstance, as you say Karlyne, "the circumstances of the news" So, so sad.

As a diehard Christie fan, writer of English mysteries, and history buff, I appreciate the link. She was amazing, an inspiration to many of us in more ways than one.

I bit (& bought) ... now to fit it into my TBR list!
To Sandy and Elizabeth... I hope you both enjoy it. I think you will. Here are some reviews and thank you.Quotes from reviews
Silence and Circumstance…
“Never heard of this spin before, really, really interesting.” “Intriguing cover.” “Love this book, great story.” “Really an ultimate original concept… this is really, really special.” “Tons of fans will want this.” “Awesome wicked cool book… someone will turn it into a movie.” “Thank you for having an original idea!” … … Webb Weaver Books Blog, Talk Radio, C. K. Webb
“With talk about a screenwriter creating a TV series with Arthur Conan Doyle and Harry Houdini, I shouldn’t be surprised that someone thought about making Agatha Christie a fictional character as well... “Silence and Circumstance,” by Roy Dimond, could be the meta-mashup of the year. According to a Florida newspaper, Dimond has stuffed this thriller with every boldfaced name of the 1920s:” “ Give Dimond credit: It’s a high-concept ‘what if’ that’ I’ve never seen before.”… Planet Peschel
“The style of the writing is a meandering, twisting and turning of the reader's mind creating a great long mystery with its unraveling of clues and ultimate finale”… by Roses are Amber
“It’s the quintessential mystery – a mystery writer goes missing for 11 days.” “Dimond turns to fiction and begins a lively romp through the literary salons of the time” “Dimond’s vivid imagination” “This book is entertaining.”… Jan DeGrass Arts and Entertainment Writer for The Coast Reporter
“It’s one of the best stories around.” Arthors’ Curtilage by Darmie Orem
“Mystery buffs will find very interesting.” Ann Everett
“Imagination is a wonderful thing. Roy Dimond has it.” “It’s the kind of world Agatha Christie would create. Now Dimond has done it as well.” “This is one journey you definitely want to take. You’ll be glad you did.”… Venture Galleries
