I'm new, too, today, and was delighted to discover this book group! I enjoy mysteries, including many current authors, but the ones I love most are the ones that feel like the classic mysteries of Agatha Christie, Dorothy Sayers, and others. So I'm delighted to join your monthly book reading -- already I've seen numerous authors that are new to me. Thank you!
Welcome. I was also excited to see people who shared my taste in classic mysteries and that there was a book club for us. I searched for a long time trying to find one as I love the same authors you mentioned and many others. (I also like old American mysteries, but English authors are some of my favorites.) I have been a big fan of Agatha Christie for years!!!

Hi, I'm Xan (Alexandra) and I love british mysteries, except possibly for Agatha Christie because I always seem to know who did it and how it was done by page 5 and am only reading to find out why, which isn't very satisfying. I know this will be considered sacrilege to many of you, which is why I'm including it in my intro - so you can get the thrashing over with!
Welcome to the group Xan. I'm impressed that you can figure out the murderer so fast. Somehow I never can figure that out ( even though I try to think of the most unlikely candidate). I can see how that might lessen the appeal of the book.

Of course Wodehouse wrote the escapades of those two characters, absolutely no doubt about it.

BTW, this is one of the very few Georgette Heyer novels I have not yet read. She is one of my favorite authors.

Hi, I new also, lured in by the promise of English mystery discussions. I saw this month's featured book is Case Histories by Kate Atkinson. I just love Kate Atkinson and am re-reading this book on order to join in the discussion.

I love this book! My copy is, unfortunately, a paperback without pictures, but she writes so evocatively that I've always been able to picture the places in my mind. You're right, Roy, given the circumstances of the news, a re-read is in order.
We really are going to lose some of humanities history, culture, a past that belongs to all of us, for what? There is a reason I titled my book Silence and Circumstance, as you say Karlyne, "the circumstances of the news" So, so sad.

Hi, I'm a classic whodunit fan. I'm wondering how the new Tommy and Tuppence TV series will go. The books were very dated which was not the case for any other Agatha Christie books. They are timeless.anna
