Chrissy | 12 comments I read a book or short story maybe 20 years ago about a man who lands on a planet (or other dimension) that is filled with beautiful women. But he notices that the men abuse the women, and the women seem to love it. He marries one and treats her tenderly and lovingly. But she becomes very upset and asks him why he treats her so mean and hurts her. Turns out on this planet what we think of as abuse they see as love, and vice versa. Googled, but couldn't find a thing.

Chrissy, are you still looking for this book or short story?

Chrissy | 12 comments Yes, still looking! Not sure if it was a book or just a short story.

Cheryl (cherylllr) Here's a free bump for autumn. Come back in a few months and simply reply with any comment to bump it again, ok? Otherwise we might sadly conclude you have abandoned the quest.

Jeremy | 194 comments You might be talking about Chthon and Pfthor by Piers Anthony. The detail you're talking about is not the main focus of the novels, but it is a significant plot point.

Chrissy | 12 comments The mystery has been solved! Thanks, Jeremy, for the suggestion. The story line I remembered was indeed from the book Chthon, in the chapter titled "Minion". I had read it years and years ago, and only recently acquired the book, so I was able to thumb through and find what I was looking for.
