The Mortal Instruments #2
Clary Fray just wishes that her life would go back to normal. But what's normal when you're a demon-slaying Shadowhunter, your mother is in a magically induced coma, and you can suddenly see Downworlders like werewolves, vampires, and faeries? If Clary left the world of the Shadowhunters behind, it would mean more time with her best friend, Simon, who's becoming more than a friend. But the Shadowhunting world isn't ready to let her go — especially her handsome, infuriating, newfound brother, Jace. And Clary's only chance to help her mother is to track down rogue Shadowhunter Valentine, who is probably insane, certainly evil — and also her father.

To complicate matters, someone in New York City is murdering Downworlder children. Is Valentine behind the killings — and if he is, what is he trying to do? When the second of the Mortal Instruments, the Soul-Sword, is stolen, the terrifying Inquisitor arrives to investigate and zooms right in on Jace. How can Clary stop Valentine if Jace is willing to betray everything he believes in to help their father?

In this breathtaking sequel to City of Bones, Cassandra Clare lures her readers back into the dark grip of New York City's Downworld, where love is never safe and power becomes the deadliest temptation.

Who is your favorite character and why?

How does the second book in the series compare to the first?

Feel free to discuss the book as you go, but please use SPOILERS for those of us who haven't gotten this far!!! (Check out the 'some html is ok' box above the post box for spoiler tags.)

David Estes (davidestesbooks) My favorite character is Jace. This book is awesome but the third book City of Glass is my favorite in the series :)

I completely agree with all of the above :D

I second this :)

Antoinette (nette09) I finished this book and I am ready for the next one. I loved everything about this one except for the push and pull between Clare and Jace. I was screaming at my Kindle saying tell him, because I have a feeling that they are not siblings. There were little details lingering everywhere. I hope I am right, because I want them to be to together. My favorite character this time around is Simon. He is just too sweet and cute. I felt that the second book has more suspense to it than the first.

Yzabel Ginsberg (yzabelginsberg) | 247 comments Simon is my favourite character too in this one. I can't really explain why, I just really like that guy and his quirks.

MeMe Belikova First lady Ivashkov (alicebelikovreads) | 949 comments I love Jace! Can't wait till we get to the recent book so I can read along :)

Brie (brielikestoread) I read this a few months ago but i remember Simon was constantly my fav character.
He just had pure realistic aspect about him. Jace- suicidal and hot. Alec- he's ok. but hard to relate to. Izzy- reminds me of Megan Fox. Clary- i never try to relate to the heroine/hero.

I honestly think the writhing and plot kept getting better with each book. City Bones wasn't my fav. So i was happy with that.

David Estes (davidestesbooks) I agree completely, got better with each book :)

Patty | 48 comments I liked this book better than the first one. Although Clary did annoy me a bit more in this one. Nice cliffhanger, but not unexpected. Looking forward to getting to the 3rd book next month.
