intermingled editions?

I normally update covers & edition info as needed when I read/shelve a book, but this one is beyond my previous experience, so I figured I'd better ask before meddling.

I just read & shelved a copy of 2001: A Space Odyssey that is this edition, at least by ISBN. But the publishing info don't match. Instead the cover and page count and publishing date match this edition perfectly -- but it has a different ISBN than mine.

Is this a case where the editions have been mingled, and should be corrected, or is it a case where I should set up an alternate cover edition for my ISBN?

I looked into this a little. It probably does need corrected, but I can't find any good information to get it sorted.

The easiest thing is to add an alternate cover edition. If we get it straightened out, it can always be merged later.

Using isfdb.org, I corrected the data as much as I could. However, they did not have covers for either of the editions you linked.

Therefore, an alternate cover edition is probably your best bet.

Thanks for your help, vicki_girl. I have my edition in hand, and am sure of that info (including cover). I just wasn't sure whether to overwrite the other cover.

I suspect it was uploaded to that ISBN in error, as it's a cover that seems to appear on many editions. But for lack of hard evidence, I'll leave it alone; alternate cover edition has now been added.
