Reading fantasy and sci-fi books when the little one is sleeping, give my imagination and spirit enough boost for to NOT become a typical diperstory-telling depressed and tired mom among the others.
I just hope my kindle can handle all those intense working hours ;)

Definitely! I just got onto summer break so I'm finishing up the book soon (halfway there now) but once it's over my book life will come to a screeching halt, haha.

I have not read those, Ryan.. and i really appreciate you recommending those books. Im gonna add those to my to-read list. Starting with the iron druid..that seems like a perfect fit for me. Thank you :)

Besides fantasy, I usually read lots of urban fantasy and YA novels and I have a soft spot for romance (they're my guilty pleasure!) When I'm not reading I can be found playing videogames, watching TV shows or baking something yummy.

I re read the series once she had finished it recently.
I have joined this group as I find myself with more and more free time to read lately.
This year I have read:
The Hobbit
Trudi Canavan - The traitor Spy Trilogy
Scott Lynch - Gentleman Bastards
Ben Aaronovitch - River of London (didn't enjoy)
Morgan Rice - A quest of HEroes (Awful)
Myke Cole - Control Point (ok)
I am now reading PAtrick Rothfuss and am loving it!
I'm looking forward to finishing this series so that I can join in the suggested reads or pick up books from the bookshelf.

my name is Marina, 32, from Croatia. I've been teaching English and German in primary school for 7 years, but currently I'm on sick leave because I've been diagnosed with leukemia, which gives me a lot of time for reading...and this is how I joined goodreads recently, so I'm still finding my way round.
I've always loved fantasy, horror, paranormal and such, and I hope I'll find some inspiration with you guys :)
the author who left me breathless recently and whose works I all read is Joe Abercrombie, and I would be extremely grateful to everyone who can recommend anything similar to his style of writing, especially The First Law trilogy or The Heroes!
currently, I'm reading N. Gaiman, American Gods, and I really like it! it's weird. I like weird. :)
hope for some recommendations.
greetings from Croatia!

I've been active on GR for over 2 years, and I'm looking to find a scifi group that fits well with my interests. This group came highly recommended by some other GR fans.
While I have read most of the the classics (love RAH, MZB, and ERB), I'm currently more interested in newer authors (eg alive) such as Hugh Howie and CJ Cherryh.
I'm looking forward to new discussions and recommendations.

I'm an archaeologist and an author. It keeps me busy.

Charles Dickens introduced me to reading, but along the journey I fell in love with fantasy and science fiction. I am an author, and eventually I'll get around to posting about my book in the other forum post, but for now I'm so happy finding this group that I don't even want to talk about it yet! When you live in a land where everyone around you speaks a language other than your own native tongue, it's hard to find like-minded groups of people. I feel like grabbing a cup of coffee and wandering around a bit.
I know I'm just scraping the surface on this site, but I'm happy I found this group and can't wait to get started reading the groups book choices, even though I'm showing up late =).

Now the essentials about me: I'm an IT manager. I have a three foot tall clone trooper standing guard in my office. I love science fiction the most, but really any fiction if it's written well. The only thing I will not read is YA. Makes me barf. I admit that I read the first book in the Twilight series to see what the clamor was about, then quickly turned to the speculative works of Ray Bradbury to get my mind right again.
I'm really glad Al ate the last donut because I'm trying to lose a few pounds before DragonCon this year.

I mean having tried to read about romantic, friendly, sparkly vampires you don't need any more grief. You have my sympathy.
I can recommend some good military science fiction if you still need to clear your "mental palate"????

Middle of your nights is fine! This conference is international - it even reaches the remote shores of England, and some early risers will pick up your comments quite soon after posting.
