My name is Amanda Dubin and I'm new to the group. New to all this. But I think the most important fact is that I love science fiction. I could eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. To list all the books I have read that are sci-fi... Well, this box is just too tiny and the list is to long.
I'm an independent filmmaker and I just wrote my first book called Assassins Wall. And if you want to read more about me please go and read my Bio:
http://www.assassinswall.com/bio
I think it's best to start all this by keeping it short and sweet. This is a new adventure for me. And, in truth, I'm excited!!! I'm trying to start a new hashtag on Facebook and Twitter... #lovinscifi ...come on, I know you do!
Amanda Dubin... Hi Al! :)

I did want to put a few sci-fi fav authors: Currently reading Brian Herbert and Kevin Anderson's new Mentats of Dune, which is really good BTW.
Also I love Orson Scott Card, Asimov, Herbert, the daddy, Clarke, Bradbury, Niven. The Draco Tavern is one of my favorites, if you haven't read it please, it's super fun. You will look at the world differently after that one.
Oh the list could go on and on...

My name is Anthony Eichenlaub. I spend my days as a computer programmer and my evenings brewing beer, parenting, writing, playing board games, and landscaping. I keep a pretty busy life, but I always have time for a decent book.
I'm really looking forward to doing a little lurking here so that I can find more books to fill my digital shelves. Also, I'll probably chime in from time to time. My main focus is sci-fi, but fantasy is really just as good. It all depends on my mood.
I'm cursed with being a slow reader, so I don't churn through the books as fast as most. I do, however, retain a fairly incredible amount of information from every book I read. Some day maybe that will be useful.

I am Tomislav, from Croatia. You can call me Tom :)
I read a lot. I manage to read at least two books a week, despite of all other things that I do (regular designer's job, hobbies like illustrating, translating and writing, family obligations...).
I love and dislike fantasy at the same time. I love it if it's great, breathtaking, and especially if it sends any kind of universal message to readers, but if I find flaws in it, it makes me stop reading it without hesitation.
Books for children that have fantastic elements in it I usually enjoy, because of it's simplicity and innocence.
I try to write some fantasy of my own, but this is not the place to go in details about that...
Anyway, I am looking forward to discussing with all you fantasy lovers in here, sharing my thoughts, finding new friends...
I don't know if I am the first and only one here from Croatia, or..?

I am grateful that Goodreads have been created so i can share my love for books and fantasy with other people in the world.
I am open to more Fantasy great reads suggestion so please message me! Ciao

Anthony:
I'm glad that there's another slow reader here. My only forte as a reader is that I'm very persistent. I was a computer programmer, too. (During the Paleolithic Age of IT.)

I just joined up here to try and network with new readers outside of my established genres!
My name is Chris, and I'm an author. I've been a huge fan of reading ever since I was a little kid. My sister Sharon lent me books she read after she was done with them, and it was like opening a door to a new universe for me. She was into horror and paranormal style novels, so that was my first exposure to 'literature' if you will.
I devoured the CS Lewis and Tolkien works, and when a friend introduced me to Dungeons and Dragons when I was 13, my life changed forever.
We played multiple times a week, and I became a competent DM. Eventually I became a writer and developer for WizKids games in the early 2000's, and since then I finished my Psych and Business degrees, and now I'm a more or less full time author.
I love writing. I literally don't know how I'd live without it. If I am not creative in some fashion, I get anxious, and nervous, and the thoughts that I need to get out somehow overflow in a bad way. I know it's weird to say that, but it's true. Create, or go crazy.
I live in central New Hampshire with my girlfriend and our two insane Devon Rex cats, and right now, life is good.
It's a pleasure to be here, and I'm excited to meet people who read the same books as me, and hopefully share some of the same hobbies as me!
Feel free to message me on my author page, or friend me. I'm also a giant attention wh*re on Facebook if you want to find me that way.
All the best!
-Chris
Hello everyone! It is lovely to meet the members of this group.
My (real) name is Star and I encourage you all here to please call me that.
I have had a wildly grown imagination ever since I was walking and talking so I have always been innately drawn to fantasy.
I love fantastical films, books, artwork and...daydreams (which can be the makers of our own realities).
Since the age of 7, I have wanted to be a writer and a poet. I have only got around to working toward that aspiration more steadily in my 30s. Having penned a slew of poems in my teen years and 20s, I have been more consumed by the writing of prose over the past few years.
At present, I am half-way through the writing of a fantasy-fiction novel (which I will never disclose the details of anywhere because this is the way that I am...Could it be 'paranoia' or am I just an 'overprotective mother' to my 'creative offspring?).
I am also two-thirds of the way through the creation of a novella which is speculative, dark, gothic fiction (well, 'tis fictional in part).
I am married and have a young son who I named after a Titan God and an archangel.
Also, I meditate and pine away for the alpine setting that is of my homeland back in the States as I have been residing along England's coast for the past seven years.

Oh and to Chris who said:

I resonate with this. In my own case, if I am not creative, I can become self-destructive and am downright 'creative' in the way I go about doing it too (I have to be since I do not drink, smoke or do drugs).
Thus, writing is not only cathartic to my soul but it is necessary as well.

With you 100%. I used to think it was weird, and I guess it still is, but now that I know I can channel that energy for something productive and satisfying my overall quality of life has improved dramatically. Weird but terrific.
There that word is again with my fellow writers: 'channel'. I am so proud.
Indeed, we 'channel' this creative energy as well as some of the information and details that color our words.
No, it is not 'weird'; I think it normal. But I probably have to say that since I have enough 'weirdness' going on to last me for the rest of this lifetime and beyond it.

You live in England and are homesick for the States?? ... Ah! I checked your profile - it said California - so I assume it is the climate - OK, you win!
Haha. Yes, Alan, it does have to do with the climate--in part. Even though we get our share of snow in the mountains where I come from, the sun still shines about 310 days a year. I am also homesick because where I come from looks like this:

Thank you, V.W. It is lovely to 'meet' you. I hope you are well today and every day.

I'm new to the group, thought a quick introduction might be in order.
From Montana.
B.A. In biology from Linfield College, Ph.D in Biochemistry from Montana State University.
I've read 11 of the books on the group's list, but many are on my to-read list.

I am from Oklahoma. I usually read fantasy with occasional sci/fi. Right now most of the books I am reading are children books (teaching college).

My name is Vanya and I'm a reader/reviewer (at YA Story Teller / aspiring writer/ publicist. Lots of things I know, but it's all revolving around books. My favorite pass times are reading (wouldn't you guess? :D) and baking.
I don't read much hard core sci-fi as star ships and robots aren't exactly my best friends, but the occasional future time technology/medical science fiction book gets me quite excited.
~Vanya D.

I'm Brian D. Anderson, author of The Godling Chronicles. I'm pleased to be a part of the group.

My favourite things in life are reading and creating beautiful things.
Nice to meet you all,

I'm currently learning how to make my own video game with future plans to make a horror sci fi type of game. If interested you can view my blog where I have free chapters of my work available. I just started it so it doesn't have much right now but I plan to add more of my work.

I love judging books by their cover and re-reading the books I love. Over and over.

Seriously? You judge books by their covers? Go here https://www.goodreads.com/topic/show/1468499-are-you-picky-about-your-book-covers? and join in!

I'm a journalist, and I live in Montclair, NJ, about 12 miles west of New York. I'm currently reading Marcel Proust's magnum opus, and am 2/3 of the way through. I figure I'll finish by about July 4. But I'll read some other books, including sci fi, along the way.

Looks interesting. On the tbr. :-)
Hi, I was born in Atlanta, GA and grew up near there. My first love has always been Science Fiction, and I've read all the greats--Heinlein, Asimov, Niven, Bradbury, Ellison, Campbell...
Those are the authors who, through their books, taught me how to write and what to write about. I'm happy to have stumbled onto such a large group of SF enthusiasts, and I know I'll enjoy being here.

My name is Matthew. I am a university student. The reason that I joined this group is that I love Fantasy and Sci-Fi and I am always looking for new recommendations and for people to discuss them with. I look forward to sharing my opinions with everyone!

I am Sara, and I am in love with fantasy books. Wizards, dragons (both as heroes and villains), knights, horses- that kind of stuff. I initially joined GoodReads after getting an Amazon account, and later was led to it by following another publisher facebook page. Now I use it to get recommendations on new books. Fantasy or science fiction, both are great.
Nice to meet you all!

Matt- have you checked out The Lost Fleet series? Its full of great character dialogue and space battles. Each book isn't that long in page count.
Sara- Have you ever read Queen of the Orcs? Kinda harsh as it illustrates what a soldier camp life would be like for a female with the added benefit of an Orc presence. Also not that long of a page count.

Aside from reading, I like to play video games and surf the web. Sometimes I like to program, though I am in no way an expert. The problem solving and logic is, perhaps, why I like it so much. I tried creative writing a few times. I'm not bad, but I'm nowhere near as good as I'd like to be.
I'm also interested in archery. Alas, there are no clubs near me and nowhere to practice if I got my own kit, so I can't really get into it yet, but I'm waiting eagerly for the opportunity to do so.
I use Goodreads mainly to keep track of the books I've read, and to look for new recommendations, but I might occasionally join in the discussions.
It's nice to meet you :)
