Matthew Young (matthewgyoung) Hello everyone,

I am an author of two financial books that in no way relate to science fiction or fantasy, but I am avid fan of the genre and am currently working on a sf graphic novel.

My favorite writer is currently Neil Gaiman--both his graphic novels and literary novels.

I really look forward to being active in this group.

Matt

Tatjana C (vampsessed) | 4 comments Hi there! I was born in '82 and live in NY. I hated to read my whole life, until a friend forced me to read the Twilight books 2 years ago....my life has never been the same since. I am now addicted to PNR's. The BDB series and my brother in law have inspired me to start writing my own book! I am 250 pages deep and hope to have it published someday!

Welcome Tatiana

message 2606: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Young (matthewgyoung) Hi Tatiana. I too was born in '82 and live in NY. How odd.

I've read the first and last of the Twilight books. The last one I enjoyed quite a bit, actually. I tried reading the ones in between, but had difficulty because of the style of writing.

Have you read Paranormalcy? I bought it for my wife a few months ago. It's supposed to be a good PNR.

Matt

I really need to read Twilight one of these days so I too can shun it.

But maybe not just today, might be a bit busy tomorrow as well ...

colleen the convivial curmudgeon (blackrose13) | 2721 comments I have a fear that some day I will read Twilight just to see how bad it really is... and actually end up enjoying it.

I'd be so ashamed...

Not that people who like it should be ashamed (hush, you - if it got people to read, then it's all good) - just that *I* would be...

Um, yeah...

Cynthia Joyce | 17 comments Hi, I am 21+ and live in Florida. Bridge of Birds, Mr. Norrel and Dr. Strange (title not quite right, but you know which one I mean) are two of my favorite fantasies. There is a book I want to find and read, but I forgot the name of the author and the title! You see I often read books in my local mega bookstore while I enjoy a fancy coffee. I didn't expect this book to get pulled so fast becaue it was really good. It started off about this prince who is heading home ahead of his soldiers. He rounds a bend and comes upon a Winter Witch. He gets home and tells his parents about it. His father is displeased with him because he is insisting on marrying a woman his father does not want him to marry. Anybody recognize this? Thanks for any ideas of what it can be.

Julia | 957 comments Going back to the important stuff, Sisko was the best commander/ captain because they gave him the most to do. He fought a terrible, seemingly unwinnable ongoing war. Also, there is more of an ongoing story and more of an ensemble cast in DS9 than any of the other Treks.

I've seen Stewart's Christmas Carol and if you get the oppotunity, it's amazing. Also, his Claudius in David Tenant's Hamlet is terrific. And yes, he is commanding; I meant Stewart, but Tenant can be too.

By the way, I've been here forever but never gotten around to introducing myself. I'm Julia, old enough to know better and I live in the wilds of Upstate New York.

message 2613: by [deleted user] (new)

Y helo thar Julia

I'm sorry to have to ban you. This is Picard country after all.

message 2614: by [deleted user] (new)

I enjoyed ds9. First season or two were bad. Once the war started though, it got good.

Shatner emoted all over the place like a lovesick girl. No military organization would put up with that even in an Academy plebe, let alone a line officer on a combat vessel. "

The difference between Shatner & Picard reflect the maturity of not only SF as a genre between the '60s and '80s, but also the increased maturity of The Federation.

I like all the captains, though Sisko was a different sort of administrator. Janeway and even Archer are also favorites.

This is why I love him so much. I never took the show seriously. *dodges tomatoes* I liked that there wasn't really anything about his that made me feel bad for that.

message 2624: by Char (new)

Char Wow, lots of funny people here.

I think I could lay Seven of Nine over my knee and snap her like a stick!
Just sayin'.

Every winter DH and I re watch DS9 (all 7 seasons, in a row), as well as Voyager and TNG. We are such geeks!

Same here. Though I like Picard as well, for different reasons. After that, I lose interest.

Beth Hobson (Theriaka) | 2 comments Hi all,

I'm a fantasy book blogger, I've been on Goodreads for ages but I've never really participated much until recently. I've been addicted to books since I was about 3 years old; I blame my mother for that little detail.

Fantasy is my preferred genre, though I also love sci-fi and yes, the occasional romance. I do read other genres from time to time, but I'm usually too absorbed in some fantasy novel to wander far!

The last two books I read were 'Draykon' and 'Lokant' by Charlotte E. English, a new indie fantasy author.

My blog, the Ebook Apothecary, steals much of my free time. I update it a minimum of three times a week and am currently working on an all new, and much improved look. You can find it here: http://theriaka-ebooks.blogspot.com if you are interested.

Thanks for letting me take a moment to introduce myself! See you around.

-Beth

Jane Gardiner (janegardiner) | 1 comments Hey, the founder has the same birthday as me! How meant is that?

Been reading everything within reach forever, but only just returning to sci-fi/fantasy after a few years exploring detective fiction - it was Butcher's Dresden stories that kinds brought me back by making me realise that a whole new generation had grown up . . .

Still not keen on movie and TV tie-ins, though.

Oh, and I paint - the blog tells a bit about my work.

Paul West (firstcauseproject) | 9 comments Hi all! I'm actually a fan of many 'genres', which is why I have a love for good sci fi: at its best, science fiction transcends most attempts at categorization. My favorite living writer is probably Margaret Atwood; among my other favorite, here and gone, are Philip K. Dick, Ursula LeGuin, and Octavia Butler. There's also a less-known book called The Truth Machine, by James Halperin, which is also one of my favorites. Last but not least, I'm going tointrodice my own work in the appropriate forum--don't worry, I've read the instructions :) Look forward to chatting with you guys! PW
