It Does Not Exist.

Douglas Bittinger (dougbittinger) | 60 comments Ummm... what was I looking for? Why did I come here? Must be getting old. Oh, yeah; a banana. Anyone know where I can find a banana?

message 2156: by [deleted user] (new)

South America, probably.

note: there was a 'pocket' joke in there somewhere, I just couldn't bring myself to look for it.

Nah, I looked there, they were out.

whimsicalmeerkat Welcome, Scott!

*directs Allan to fresh supply of bananas at the ice cream bar, grabs a cookie from the cookie table, wanders off to decide which alcoholic beverage should be used to supplement a cup of coffee*

Douglas Bittinger (dougbittinger) | 60 comments Oh, of course, this is where I saw them; the Ice Cream Bar! Thanks Denae!

OK, now someone *has* to tell me where to find these things in here--ice cream, coffee, cookies... I had no idea!

;)

Douglas Bittinger (dougbittinger) | 60 comments Make sure you try the fried egg and banana sandwiches!
At least I think that's what I had. Ever since some fellow waved his hand at me this morning I'm having the hardest time remembering things!

Yeah, you have to be wary of those Jedi wannabes...

Douglas Bittinger (dougbittinger) | 60 comments Guess so. I have a headache now. I'm going to go home, take a couple of nanites and grab a nap. Nice meeting you, I'll see you around.

whimsicalmeerkat fried eggs are amazing on cheeseburgers

message 2167: by Douglas (new)

Douglas Bittinger (dougbittinger) | 60 comments Do you by chance live in Australia? I had a discussion about fried eggs on cheeseburgers with a group of people a while back, all of the ones who had tried this were in Australia. I'm going to have to try this the next time we do burgers for a cook-out. But I'll have to put an apron on my big stuffed-toy kanagroo and set him out there too to make the right ambiance.

message 2168: by whimsicalmeerkat (new)

whimsicalmeerkat No, actually it was something I was introduced to in California at a burger chain called Fatburger.

message 2169: by Douglas (new)

Douglas Bittinger (dougbittinger) | 60 comments Someone at Fatburger must have been an Aussie. Or at least dated one.

Clayton | 2 comments Hi all! My name's Clayton, and I'm an aspiring spec-fic author. I've been reading most of my life, cutting my teeth on Narnia and Dragonlance when I was littler, and toyed with writing up through my teenage years. I'm in university now; finished a Bachelor's degree in computer science, and charged straight into my Master's. Earlier this year, I read Orson Scott Card's 'How To Write Science Fiction and Fantasy', and at that point I had a revelation: I most definitely had not read enough in my genre of choice.

Thus, this year, I'm beginning a reading quest to further my education. I've read a few of the classics in the genre this year, including 'Dune', 'Starship Troopers', and 'Ender's Game'. I found a list of top spec-fic novels, and from there found this group. So, here I am. :) Looking forward to engaging in some of the discussion here!

O.C. Heaton (ocheaton) | 15 comments Hello all. I am fairly new to the group and haven't really had a chance to introduce myself. So, I'm a writer. Published my first novel two years ago (The Human Race) and am just finishing up the sequel which is due out later this year. They are Science Fiction/Green thrillers and part of a thrillogy - if everything goes to plan I will start the final instalment next year. If you want to find out a little more about me you can visit my author site at http://www.theraceison.co.uk/blog/ or my facebook site at a 'Rush of Green'

Hello Clayton. I loved Dune and Starship Troopers and thought Hollywood absolutely butchered them both with the movies. Ender's Game sounds familiar, but at the moment my cerebrum has gone off to take a nap so I can't rifle through the drawers of my memory to search for anything on that one.

Welcome to Goodreads!

Hello O.C., just one question: what is the purpose of learning to recite pi to 83,481 decimal points? For those who are wondering where that came from, go read the Memory Castles post on his blog. As for me, when I was writing my second Sci-fi book, I had a dossier on each character, including at least one photograph (usually cut from magazines) and a full accounting of background, in a vertical file on my desk. Then I had the book story boarded on the wall above my desk. I spent almost as much time building my characters as I did writing the book. I thought it came out awsome. Unfortunately the Publishing houses weren't interested, and they were the only game in town back then. Other than a Vanity press. So I filed it away and moved on. I may dig it out and try it as an eBook --- if I can remember where I put it.

Welcome to GoodReads!

Stephen Goldin (stephengoldin) | 17 comments Memorial Day seems an appropriate day to mention this great review my book The Eternity Brigade: Final Edition received from Frida Fantastic. I consider this book a tribute to the brave men and women who fight, bleed, and die to preserve freedom.

You can find The Eternity Brigade Final Edition by Stephen Goldin here, or at other fine purveyors of ebooks.

Ella | 11 comments Hi, I'm Ella! I've always been an avid, many have said obsessive, reader and feel very fortunate to have found goodreads where it appears that's the norm :) I'm currently reading "The Player of Games" and finished "Consider Phlebas" a couple months ago so I'm very excited to discuss the latter at the end of June! I loved "Sailing to Sarantium" by GGK, so I'm also excited to read "The Summer Tree" in the group read. I'm not as well versed in classic SF as I'd like to be, so any suggestions are welcome and would be very much appreciated. I look forward to getting to know the group, and hope to see many of you in the discussions :)

message 2183: by [deleted user] (new)

message 2185: by C.S. Daley (new)

C.S. Daley I have been reading Science Fiction & Fantasy all of my life. Frank Herbert, David Brin, Terry Pratchett, Neil Gaiman, Stephen Donaldson are some of my favorites.

I recently published my first YA fantasy novel and am currently working on an adult one. I read, I write, I teach school, I play with kittens, and have been known to indulge in video games.

Douglas Bittinger (dougbittinger) | 60 comments Welcome to Goodreads Ella. I LOVE classic SF (that's with an empahsis on science). Most of what I can recommend is truely classic (Clarke, Asimov, Niven, Heinlein, and that other guy - still working on my first cup of coffee) but I did read The Second Ship recently and did a review. I highly recommend that one and am looking forward to reading the second book in his Rho series.

Douglas Bittinger (dougbittinger) | 60 comments Welcome C.S. - Frank Herbbert's DUNE was one of my favorites. Good to see you here.

Stuart Jaffe | 13 comments Hi all. I'm Stuart Jaffe, a reader and yes, a writer of both SF and F. I also am a co-contributor at www.magicalwords.net -- a blog about the craft and business of writing, and I'm the co-host of The Eclectic Review podcast (http://eclectic.libsyn.com). So, there are lots of ways to get connected with me. :) As for reading, I read far and wide, in and out of genre. I love reading. Lately, I've been getting into Japanese SF -- I'm reading The Lord of the Sands of Time right now and very much enjoying it. Looking forward to getting into some great discussions here.

message 2191: by [deleted user] (new)

I've actually been meaning to read The Lord of the Sands of Time. Let me know what you think of it when you're done.

message 2193: by Stuart (new)

Stuart Jaffe | 13 comments Nah, Allan, it only looks that way. I still have plenty of time to waste playing L.A. Noire (which is sucking more and more of my time lately) or Portal 2 (also sucking plenty of time). If video games had never existed, I'd get so much more done!

Thanks Allan! Haha don't worry, I can definitely sympathize with the effects of caffeine withdrawal. Thanks for the author recommendations. I recently purchased a collection of Asimov's Foundation Trilogy and expect it'll be an amazing read. I really enjoyed your review on The Second Ship! I've added the novel to the overwhelmingly long queue of books I want to read :)

I am guilty of the same thing. Currently grinding away trying to defeat bosses and sub bosses in Final Fantasy 13 on my PS3. When I get my free copy of Infamous, who knows where my time will go...

Douglas Bittinger (dougbittinger) | 60 comments I know what you mean Stuart, I used to be a VGA Planets ADDICT. These days however, my "Simple Life" as a mountain-man wannabe keeps me pretty busy -- although Twitter does seem to be taking up a lot of time as I try to market my book. I don't know that it's helping though. Gotta go work the garden now. Nice chatting with you.

Ken Lindsey | 5 comments Hey there. I'm Ken Lindsey and I've been a huge fantasy fan for as long as I can remember. Reading, writing and even fantasy RPG all have special places in my own personal history.

Some of my favorites:
C.S. Lewis
Tolkien (of course!)
Neil Gaiman
Stephen King (yep, he's done some amazing fantasy work)
R.A. Salvatore
Terry Brooks
Tom Robbins

... and the list could go on and on.

I am also a writer and I just released my first novel, The River Runes. If you're interested, you can learn more about that on my page.
