Probably fit better in What Else Are You Reading, I think.

Always loved Sci Fi & Fantasy books and my love of them drove me to doing a Physics with Space Science & Tecnology Degree... that wasn't as fun as reading the Sci-Fi novels anyway!
Currently trying to still read and post on my new blog and various groups like this one whilst dealing with a 19 month year old daughter!!
Anyway, hope to join in many discussions as I can!

I'm from England and probably of the oldest here at 60 and came to fantasy when I was about 30 having become bored reading mainstream books and wanted a change, picked up the Thomas Covenant books by Steven Donaldson and that was the start. It was great to find this place as although I have plenty of friends that read none read my kind of books so can't really discuss books with them but hope that has now changed

My name is Geoff. I'm a teacher of English and live in Lincolnshire, England. I love books generally but I'm particularly fond of modern fiction and sci-fi. Favourite sci-fi authors: Philip K. Dick, Asimov, Pohl.

As in I can't remember if I introduced myself in this group! I'm Brett aka battlinjack and am a confirmed bookaholic. I've been reading since I was 4 or so and was introduced to Fantasy & Science Fiction in the first grade by the local librarian. I bless her all the time!
I started with ER Burroughs and Andre Norton. The librarian would save me the issues of the magazine Fantasy & Science Fiction from which I discovered so many great authors.
I have so many favorites that I usually just list authors.
The Valdemar series by Mercedes Lackey
The Belgariad & Malloreon by David & Leigh Eddings
The Books of Amber by Roger Zelazny
The Ringworld series by Larry Niven
The Tenth Planet trilogy by Dean Wesley Smith & Kristine Kathryn Rusch
The Legacy Trilogy by Ian Douglas
The Rama Series by Arthur C Clarke & Gentry Lee
Okay...so this time I listed series instead of just authors. I didn't even realize I was doing that!
Some more favorites grabbed randomly off the shelves;
War World - William C Dietz
The Cat Who Walks Through Walls - Robert A Heinlein
Starship Troopers - Robert A Heinlein (much better than the movie!)
Stranger in a Strange Land - Robert A Heinlein
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency - Douglas Adams
Shaggy Planet - Ron Goulart
Systemic Shock - Dean Ing
Heavy Weather - Bruce Sterling
Magus Rex - Jack Lovejoy
An Exchange of Hostages - Susan R Matthews

Jamie here, and I thought I'd introduce myself. I live in Australia, and I'm an avid reader. Someone introduced me to this site just a few months ago and ever since then, I've been addicted. I love this site!
Nonetheless... hope to make some friends out of this group and have some awesome discussions. :)

Some of my favourite authors are: Patrick Rothfuss, Trudi Canavan, Kristin Cashore & Raymond Feist.
I look forward to the discussions and group reads.

I have a friend who has the same dyslexia you have. He reads non-fiction like crazy, but has a hard time writing without mixing things up. And he only has to worry about his own language, English.

Keep working on it, Saeed. One of our authors (his first book is going through a rewrite, but we've accepted it) also has dyslexia. His wife proof reads his work and helps catch problems (which is something EVERY writer should do). Having worked with a couple of other people who are dyslexic, I can understand your problems. I can't begin to understand being dyslexic and working in a foreign language to boot. I salute your courage for taking this on.
I won't minimize the problems you'll face. Too many people with English as a first language, but no other challenges, can't break into print because they can't handle their own language well enough to be accepted for publication. We get a few manuscripts from people who don't speak English at home and most of them still can't write the language well enough. BUT once in a while, we find someone who can both write a good story and can do it in English (like a native speaker).
Good luck.

My favorite book is probably "On Writing" by Stephen King. I love how he teaches while telling the story of his horrific accident. It is one of the few books I've read more than 3 times and will likely read again.
It is nice to meet you all.
Hiyas Douglas, and welcome :)

How do you mean 'or something like that'? Something cross-genre?

I am a novelist and author of sci-fi thriller, The Human Race. Check out my blog at www.theraceison.co.uk/blog where I write about my writing experiences and discuss possibilities for future earth and future travel.
Thanks, hope you enjoy!

My hobbies include music (listening, playing guitar, singing and writing), movies (watching and studying), Trek (TV, film and books), blogging, and, of course, reading (science fiction, native americana, history, biography, psychology and literature). IN addition, I am a Top Chef junkie. It's about the TV I watch.
Although I currently work as a project manager for a surveying company, I am also attempting to open a vintage science fiction online bookstore.
Helloooooo new people!
I'd steer clear of Aloha were I you. Especially when she has that hungry look in her eyes.

My name is Mike Longenecker and I'm the illustrator/editor of Dr Plasse's debut novel 'Ravenwild'.
We would like to tell you about the first book in the Ravenwild series. Although billed as a Sci-Fi/Fantasy novel, the story really belongs to the Fantasy genre. The leading character is a teenage girl named Stephanie, the daughter of Dr. Blake Lee Strong, who is transported by an underhanded Wizard to a dystopian world along with the entire Strong family and two friends. Life-and-death struggles, skullduggery, romance, and heroism fill this larger-than-life saga. .
(over three dozen illustrations in this 496 page novel by me)
Short synopsis:
Returning home from another grueling shift of E.R. work, Dr. Blake Lee Strong comes across a downed motorcyclist and stops to help, but little does he know that his world and that of his family will soon be turned upside down. Duped into being transported to another planet called Inam'Ra, Dr. Strong and his family are thrust into a medieval world populated by Trolls, Gnomes, Elves, Dwarves, Humans and other alien beings. An epic odyssey begins as the Strong family fights for not only their own survival, but also for the continued existence of the citizens of Ravenwild.

But welcome, all the same.
But welcome, all the same.

My name's João and I'm from Oporto, Portugal. I'm 24 and I love reading, mostly sci-fi and fantasy. But fantasy above anything else. I started when I was like 14 or 15 with Harry Potter (not exactly a fantasy book but it was what brought me into reading fantasy books anyway) and since then I've read authors such as Jordan, Feist, Lovecraft, Hobb, Salvatore, Paolini, Filipe Faria, Martin, Nicholson, Liam Hearn, Carey, amongst others. I share my passion for books with many others like writing, cinema, music, PCs (games, hardware, software, you name it), TV series, photography... so I don't read as much as I'd like to... but I still read enough.
As for my favourite fantasy book so far, I'd have to say Martin's AOIAF, even tho I am currently STILL reading his 3rd book LOL.
