Artsolameelian I also did not mean to post that so early, hehe... Anyways I like to write in ways that have never been done before! And while I seek for my own success in my writing passion, I yearn to help others succeed in their own brilliances.

Hannah (hannahsmanyhobbies) Hi, I'm Hannah.

I just finished Ready Player One and Armada by Ernest Cline. So now I'm on a Sci-fi kick.

message 5404: by Dionne (new)

Dionne | 21 comments Hi my name is Dionne and I'm in my forties(that's as far as I'm going age-wise). I love to read and to write. Of late I have written something and it is published up in Amazon. It's a science fiction. Presently I am working on another but that's a fantasy story. Anyway I live in California. I love all science fiction and fantasy books so there's a lot. My ultimate favorite author is David Eddings.

E.J. Heijnis (ejheijnis) | 13 comments Greetings to all! I'm EJ, a Dutch expat living in California. I've loved reading Science Fiction and Fantasy since I was little, but I really got into it after reading The Lord of the Rings during lunch breaks in high school. They had it in three parts, each with beautiful illustrations, and I used to get lost in them. Then I started reading Star Wars books, like the X-Wing series (I played the games to death, so it was a natural choice) and eventually, more Science Fiction. I've been writing since I was four years old and it's still the only thing I want to do for a living. I'm working on making that happen. I look forward to chatting with you all!

Nick | 10 comments Hi all,

My name is Nick. I was born and raised in New York and currently reside in New Jersey. I'm new to this group and to Goodreads in general. I hadn't had time to read much in the past several years but I have since been able to pick it up again and didn't realize how much I had missed it. I just finished The Martian, and just picked up Neuromancer. (a little late on that one I know)

Anyway, just thought I'd say hello. I hope to be reading along with the next group book.

message 5409: by John (last edited Aug 28, 2015 12:59AM) (new)

John Dodds Hi, Nick. I've been hearing a lot about The Martian, and weirdly, though I blog for Amazing Stories and review for Adventures in Scifi Publishing , I've never read it. Shame on me. Need to check it out. Neuromancer is good. I also highly recommend The Windup Girl by Paolo Baccigalupi.

I'm new in this group and I wanted to introduce myself.
My name is Gal (yes it's a boy's name) I'm from Israel and I love reading fantasy books of all kinds. You can see my reading least and see what books I've read and what I like. I hope to fit in here. Have a good day ;)

message 5415: by Nicole (new)

Nicole Mavaega (nicolemavaega) Hey everyone. I'm a 21 year old woman by the name of Nicole. I'm from New Zealand. I'm quite excited to join in with the readings as I do love to read fantasy books. I'm still getting the hang of scifi! I wouldn't say I'm a geek because I hardly speak "big" words. But anywho, nice to meet everyone :)

Soifua x

Thanks John, I'll put it on my list though I just got sidetracked by Ready Player One. (I'm all over the place)

message 5417: by Winfred (new)

Winfred | 1 comments Hi My name is Winfred, friends call me Wynn, currently living in KSA due to work. My love affair with Scifi started with a little known book called Photon, It was a case of judging a book by it's cover since what drew me into buying it in the first place was the cover art. :p As for fantasy the first ever book i bought and got me hooked harder than Scifi was The Elric Saga by Michael Moorcock. Since then i have almost exclusively only read these two genres.

message 5418: by Deric (new)

Deric McNish (mcnish) | 2 comments Hi all, I'm Deric. I'm curious if anyone got hooked on fantasy the way I did, by reading the MYTH books by Robert Asprin or by reading the XANTH series.

Now my tastes are all over the place but I am on a Brandon Sanderson kick right now. I'm from New York, I've lived in Cleveland, Boulder, and now live in Michigan. I'm a theatre professor at a Big Ten school and I enjoy writing sci fi and fantasy novels in my free time (but I won't post about those here).

See ya! - Deric

Yay! I gave up on the later books in the series but I recently did a re-read of the first 5 or 6 books. It's really fun and inventive, it's horribly misogynistic (which I didn't realize when I first read it), and after a while the puns get overwhelming. But some of those characters are still with me. I think my favorite is Good Magician Humphrey.

I also clearly need to read Ready Player One, though my book reviewing takes up quite a bit of reading time (mostly that involves reading for pleasure, luckily, though I try to make time for personal choices, too).

My favorite is the Gap Chasm. Anthony lives in Florida and there was a ditch running through his back yard that his kids loved to jump over. That ditch became the "Gap Chasm" in the books.

message 5424: by Grace (new)

Grace Pringle (gracerp) Hi there!
I've been on Goodreads for a long time but I've only recently decided to put more time hanging out around here.
My love of reading is only matched by my love of writing. I've had a few poems published but my plan is to have one of my fantasy books published (one's completed and another is in progress). FYI I REALLY like dragons :D

I've got two awesome little girls and an editor/writer husband <3 (that isn't the only reason I married him, he's also kinda funny and fantastic).

I have a ton of favourite books and here are a few:

"Inkheart" by Cornelia Funke (The descriptions are really well done)
"The Two Princesses of Bamarre" - Gail Carson Levine
"Ender's Game" - Orson Scott Card
"Airborn" - Kenneth Oppel
"The Bible" - by ... God ;)
"The Abhorsen Series" - Garth Nix

Travis Norwood | 1 comments I love science fiction, especially when it can make you see things from another perspective.

It's hard to pick a favorite book, but two that come to mind are Ender's Game and Kindred. Both take the normal hero/villain idea and turn it on its head. You have to understand those who are against you. And once you do, you'll love them (even if you still want to destroy them).

Orson Scott Card is my favorite author and I was lucky enough to attend his Literary Bootcamp.

Rodrigo Juri | 4 comments Hello.
I am Rodrigo, chilean science teacher (biology), and SF fan since... well, too many years. Also an amateur writer, although my stories are in spanish and argentinian SF fanzines, all of them in spanish, of course. It is encouraging to find a community like this where so many topics of the field are being discussed, so I am sure that I will learn a lot from you all. Thank you and see you.

Stoyana Alexandrova | 2 comments Hello all,
I've just joined Goodreads and I really like the idea of discussing while reading, rating, and getting recommendations :) I am a scientist, I just finished my PhD in the UK. I'm a huge fan of sci-fi, especially hard sci-fi. I didn't read much when I was little so I've had to catch up in the recent years. What else... I'm 26 years old, I have a twin sister and I also LOVE dogs!!
I'm looking forward to exchanging thoughts on good reads :)

Sophia Nicolopoulos (augustineofelsinore) | 3 comments Hello everyone!
My real name is Marie-Sophie and I'm a Bachelor student of English. I'm also studying Russian and French and a huge reason for this is that I love reading foreign literature! My passion for science-fiction came after reading Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles; I became a huge fan of his and I started searching other sci-fi authors, like Ursula K. LeGuin and Arthur C. Clarke.
Since January 2015, I've read some fantasy&sci-fi books I always wanted to like The Hobbit (Middle-Earth Universe) by J.R.R. Tolkien Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury The Illustrated Man by Ray Bradbury and 1984 by George Orwell , to name a few. I can't wait to really get into this group and explore its book choices for the month!

message 5441: by Christopher (new)

Christopher Taylor (christophertaylor) My name is Christopher Taylor and I'm an author as well as a reader. I prefer to read historical fiction and detective novels, but I write mostly fantasy and do enjoy some sci fi and fantasy reading as well. Most of what I prefer is older; books such as the Fafhrd and Gray Mouser or Michael Moorcock's Eternal Champions series.

I've written three novels and many gaming books over the years, and I'm doing well on my 100 books read challenge for the year (only 8 books back on average right now, and gaining). Putting out my latest book has eaten up so much reading time I am not comfortably putting back 2 books a week as I expected this year!

I live in Oregon, which as anyone who's been here knows is paradise, but rains far too much for anyone to move here so you should only visit. If I somehow became fabulously wealthy, I'd live in a mountain cabin by a lake and write there all year long.

Craig "NEEDS MORE DAMN TIME TO READ !!!!" | 2 comments Hi all! My reading tastes tended to be with Crime and Horror but i recently became infatuated with the Fantasy genre (sci-fi still has to be nurtured haha). It's strange because i love the genres in respect to film and video games but could never get into the book side, well, apart from reading and enjoying the Lord of the ring books.

Victoria | 11 comments Mike (the Paladin) wrote: "Welcome."

Hello all,
I must confess to having recently become a disillusioned reader. I started reading urban fantasy and that led to paranormal romance, but I have become more and more disinterested in the books I am reading. Then I had a revelation, plain and simple I love fantasy.
My bookshelves at home contain David Eddings, David Gemmel (seriously there is no question that Druss is 'the legend', Robert Jordan, Terry Brooks, Brandon Sanderson, and Raymond E Feist (the list could go on). My point is that I live fantasy and for some reason I haven't been reading it.

Anyhow, just going back to my routes, and reading the books I love, and wanted to find a like-minded community.

I'm looking forward to connecting with other fantasy enthusiasts.

Tori

Note my restraint in not saying anything...

I hate to admit the number of times I've typed the wrong word just because my brain supplied the wrong word.
