I just finished Ready Player One and Armada by Ernest Cline. So now I'm on a Sci-fi kick.

My name is Nick. I was born and raised in New York and currently reside in New Jersey. I'm new to this group and to Goodreads in general. I hadn't had time to read much in the past several years but I have since been able to pick it up again and didn't realize how much I had missed it. I just finished The Martian, and just picked up Neuromancer. (a little late on that one I know)
Anyway, just thought I'd say hello. I hope to be reading along with the next group book.

I'm new in this group and I wanted to introduce myself.
My name is Gal (yes it's a boy's name) I'm from Israel and I love reading fantasy books of all kinds. You can see my reading least and see what books I've read and what I like. I hope to fit in here. Have a good day ;)

Thanks John, I'll put it on my list though I just got sidetracked by Ready Player One. (I'm all over the place)

Now my tastes are all over the place but I am on a Brandon Sanderson kick right now. I'm from New York, I've lived in Cleveland, Boulder, and now live in Michigan. I'm a theatre professor at a Big Ten school and I enjoy writing sci fi and fantasy novels in my free time (but I won't post about those here).
See ya! - Deric

Yay! I gave up on the later books in the series but I recently did a re-read of the first 5 or 6 books. It's really fun and inventive, it's horribly misogynistic (which I didn't realize when I first read it), and after a while the puns get overwhelming. But some of those characters are still with me. I think my favorite is Good Magician Humphrey.

I also clearly need to read Ready Player One, though my book reviewing takes up quite a bit of reading time (mostly that involves reading for pleasure, luckily, though I try to make time for personal choices, too).

My favorite is the Gap Chasm. Anthony lives in Florida and there was a ditch running through his back yard that his kids loved to jump over. That ditch became the "Gap Chasm" in the books.

I've been on Goodreads for a long time but I've only recently decided to put more time hanging out around here.
My love of reading is only matched by my love of writing. I've had a few poems published but my plan is to have one of my fantasy books published (one's completed and another is in progress). FYI I REALLY like dragons :D
I've got two awesome little girls and an editor/writer husband <3 (that isn't the only reason I married him, he's also kinda funny and fantastic).
I have a ton of favourite books and here are a few:
"Inkheart" by Cornelia Funke (The descriptions are really well done)
"The Two Princesses of Bamarre" - Gail Carson Levine
"Ender's Game" - Orson Scott Card
"Airborn" - Kenneth Oppel
"The Bible" - by ... God ;)
"The Abhorsen Series" - Garth Nix

It's hard to pick a favorite book, but two that come to mind are Ender's Game and Kindred. Both take the normal hero/villain idea and turn it on its head. You have to understand those who are against you. And once you do, you'll love them (even if you still want to destroy them).
Orson Scott Card is my favorite author and I was lucky enough to attend his Literary Bootcamp.

I am Rodrigo, chilean science teacher (biology), and SF fan since... well, too many years. Also an amateur writer, although my stories are in spanish and argentinian SF fanzines, all of them in spanish, of course. It is encouraging to find a community like this where so many topics of the field are being discussed, so I am sure that I will learn a lot from you all. Thank you and see you.

"Sergeant Whiskeyjack and his squad of Bridgeburners" -- I love that opening line in the summary :D

Stoyana

I've just joined Goodreads and I really like the idea of discussing while reading, rating, and getting recommendations :) I am a scientist, I just finished my PhD in the UK. I'm a huge fan of sci-fi, especially hard sci-fi. I didn't read much when I was little so I've had to catch up in the recent years. What else... I'm 26 years old, I have a twin sister and I also LOVE dogs!!
I'm looking forward to exchanging thoughts on good reads :)

My real name is Marie-Sophie and I'm a Bachelor student of English. I'm also studying Russian and French and a huge reason for this is that I love reading foreign literature! My passion for science-fiction came after reading Bradbury's The Martian Chronicles; I became a huge fan of his and I started searching other sci-fi authors, like Ursula K. LeGuin and Arthur C. Clarke.
Since January 2015, I've read some fantasy&sci-fi books I always wanted to like

I've written three novels and many gaming books over the years, and I'm doing well on my 100 books read challenge for the year (only 8 books back on average right now, and gaining). Putting out my latest book has eaten up so much reading time I am not comfortably putting back 2 books a week as I expected this year!
I live in Oregon, which as anyone who's been here knows is paradise, but rains far too much for anyone to move here so you should only visit. If I somehow became fabulously wealthy, I'd live in a mountain cabin by a lake and write there all year long.

Hello all,
I must confess to having recently become a disillusioned reader. I started reading urban fantasy and that led to paranormal romance, but I have become more and more disinterested in the books I am reading. Then I had a revelation, plain and simple I love fantasy.
My bookshelves at home contain David Eddings, David Gemmel (seriously there is no question that Druss is 'the legend', Robert Jordan, Terry Brooks, Brandon Sanderson, and Raymond E Feist (the list could go on). My point is that I live fantasy and for some reason I haven't been reading it.
Anyhow, just going back to my routes, and reading the books I love, and wanted to find a like-minded community.
I'm looking forward to connecting with other fantasy enthusiasts.
