Anyone else just hate this series?

I was just wondering whether I was the only one not liking this series too! I thought the love triangle was too tedious to read about, I thought Katniss was slowly turning into Bella Swann, and I found the ending extremely awful.
The first 2 books were alright... I didn't think they were great, but the last one was a downright failure. I don't think Gale was the kind of person who would have left Katniss like that so fast. It seems that Suzanne Collins just changed his whole character.
The ending definitely could have been better.
Another thing is that I thought the way Suzanne Collins wrote was very boring to read. It was like she put too much effort in the plot, and not enough on the way she wrote..

Sorry, about that poor copying.

But all of the characters changed because of the war that they went through. War changes people and that is what SC did, she changed her characters appropriately. Also, I think the big reason that Katniss changed so much throughout and that people didn't enjoy the ending is because SC didn't want to have a "Bella Swan" character. Twilight is a fairy tale type story (hence the horrible ending for "happily-ever-after"), these books are supposed to show the effects of war, and they are supposed to be realistically fictional. If you have ever read "All Quiet on the Western Front," these books are supposed to go along with the themes of that one. If you haven't read it, you really should because it is a very realistic to war and what actually happens.

I read this series in summer of 2011. I liked it. Nothing overly special, but it was good. When I found out they were making a movie, I was very excited. I started following it on IMDB that August. i followed it for 7 months, then saw it opening day. (A bit disapointed, I must say.) Then, all the other girls rushed to the theater. "Ooohh, I love Peeta!" "I'm gonna be Katniss for Halloween!" "Braid my hair like Katniss!" It's become the new Twilight. (aka the worst book ever written.) So, if they were just an independent science fiction trilogy, I would have enjoyed them a lot better. And yes, the 3rd book is pretty bad.

I don't think HG is anywhere NEAR Twilight. It was written as Young Adult, but read as an older type of book, but that means that it fell into the hands of teenagers and other people who thrive on "Team Edward" or "Team Gale". That make me cringe, but it doesn't reflect on the book. It makes me want to hypothetically slap some sense into those people, and tell them that the book is about more than that. It shows that some of the readers obviously weren't quite there in maturity to fully understand the book, and were either looking for a Twilight or they just can't comprehend war because we live in this sort of "safe" bubble here in the U.S. and other well developed countries. This was one of the most powerful series I've ever read, with the underlying themes and the characters sticking with me for months after reading it, and probably years to come.

It is frustrating to see people, usually teens, jump on the "Team" bandwagon and focus on the romance (which wasn't the whole story by the way), and it's no wonder why some of them came out disappointed with the book.

And I loved the third book. It made me cry and think and the ending made me cry some more. The author did good with allowing us into Katniss's head and it was hard not to feel what she was going through.

honestly although you guys wont agree with me.. in my opinion it was kind of like a happily ever after ending, the slowly got over the effects of the war with the help of each other, tried to remember everyone else and well they rediscovered their love for each other and even had kids.. if thats not a happy ending what is? yeah i know their were deaths and stuff but you get my point.

I understand what you are saying and in that sense, sure, it was a happy ending. But I don't think it says she ever returns to her old self. I think it says something about her always having this cloud of depression following. Maybe she is okay temporarily, but there are times when she is in complete shut down. I don't think the book says that much, but hints at it.

And I completely agree with Nicki. These books were written for slightly older young adults I think. They actually have a few deeper meanings in them. But if you can't see the meanings, then the books will suck.

Lastly, people that are hating on the series because it is a movie and there are people obsessing over it should hate every book series ever made into movies. It will always happen with YA conversion series. It is the way people react. It is an escape from this world for some people. It gives the allusion of "something else," which people feed on. It is natural for humans to make these series into "Team Gale, Team Edward, Team Peeta, Team Jacob." It is a cay to make the series more real for the people. It is going to happen and if you don't want to see it, then stop watching YA book-movie conversions.

I loved the series but I think I can kind of understand what you're saying. Not very much, but I think I can see why you would think that.

I was looking forward reading mockingjay, but ugh! Katniss Everdeen where's the girl on fire?! It was lame and boring and annoying? Lol (this is just my opinion)
