Trying to find another author similar to Alice Hoffman

Any suggestions for similar writing style as Alice Hoffman?

I would suggest Sarah Addison Allen. Garden Spells is very similar to Practical Magic. She writes with the magical realism that I love so much from Alice Hoffman.

deleted user I agree, Sarah Addison Allen writes a lot like Alice.

I love Alice Hoffman and have also searched (without much luck) for other writers that were similar to her. I remember thinking of her when I read Drowning Ruth by Christina Schwarz, but that was a couple of years ago at least. If you find something I'd love to know about it!

Charles De Lint has a similar style as Alice Hoffman as far as magical realism. I like Charles De Lint's way of weaving mythology and magic through his stories. I started reading him before Alice Hoffman and I think I love them both equally.

I agree that Isabelle Allende's House of Spirits is wonderful. There is no one quite like Alice Hoffman; she is one of my favorite authors and the one that most inspires my writing! While I cannot claim to write in the same style, she definitely influences my voice. My novel, Bad Girls, will be out in a few days. You can visit my website for an excerpt and info on Bad Girls, my previously published non-fiction, and me at www.deborahdoucette.weebly.com

Some have said that my novel "The Fingerprint of Destiny" has traces of Alice Hoffman and Amy Tan.

Im confused who hit hap and Stella in the boat on the lake at the end. Who stole the wedding cake house model?

I fourth (or fifth?) the rec of Sarah Addison Allen. She's very similar - just a bit lighter in subject matter.

Another magic realism author in the same vein is Joanne Harris.

Try Clare Jay, her books are really good. I love Alice Hoffmans books and really enjoyed Clare Jays novels.

Try Melissa de la Cruz or Wendy Webb. I'm looking through my read books. Alice Hoffman is my favorite. Have you read Isabelle Allende, House of the Spirits. Don't give up. Get thru the first few chapters and then it's worth it. Might have more suggestions. .

Sarah Addison Allen is a lot like her. They both have magical realism and both are great writers. Her books are easy to get through as well.
