The original Dracula, of course. But I also have a huge fascination for the anime vampire. I just started reading the Vampire Knight comic after watching the entire anime. The art is beautiful and the story mysterious.
I haven't read a whole lot of vampire books, although there are quite a few on my TBR list. My favorite thus far is either the Cirque du Freak series or Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
the southern vampire series aka true blood is very good also features other super natural creatures as you get further on in the series
The first 9 books of the Anita Blake Vampire hunter books are great, but you can pretty much stop after that. I will always have a soft spot for Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles as they were what got me interested in reading vampire books in the first place.
There are so many with completely varying genres... there are comedy, romance and even alien vampires. I hadnt really thought about this much before and now that i have i cant stop... LOL
My favorite would have to be Laurell K. Hamiltons Anita Blake series. Also loved Stephen King's Salem's Lot.
Hmm, I haven't read many vampire novels, but I've always wanted to read Anne Rice and Charlaine Harris (though my friends say the latter's plotting has become a mess in recent years). Of what I've read, Dracula has been a perennial favorite, and on the most part I was enthralled by Elizabeth Kostova's The Historian, which I am currently rereading to review. Kostova is a genius for tone, but I fear the resolution of the novel was quite out of sync with the atmosphere she built for the first 500 pages.
I just finished the Bloodsucking Fiends series by Christopher Moore. I thought they were fantastic, witty and very realistic (even with a giant vampire cat) but they are a bit more aimed at adults and he had a very distinct writing style that might not suit everyone. But i am thinking of picking up the sookie stackhouse (trueblood) series since i'm a new fan of the TV show
Bram Stoker's Dracula, and the Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice, original chronicles not the new ones.
My favorites are Katie MacAlister's "Dark Ones" series & Angela Knight's "Mageverse" series. Both are really good. Katie's vamps are cursed by demon lords and only their Beloveds can redeem their souls. It's a lot like Christine Feehans vampires but Katie's books are more light-hearted & Katie has a WICKED sense of humor! Angela Knight's vampires are actually the Knights of the Round Table who have been chosen by Merlin (a benevolent alien from an alternate universe where magic is an elemental law) to protect humanity from commiting mass-suicide and from sadistic, demonic aliens who live on death magic. The women bacame Magae immortal magic users and the knights became Magi immortal vampires. Angela Knight's bools are VERY HOT and suck you in within the first chapter. No pun intended! ;-D
salems lot Stephan king, was the 1st vampire book I read when I was about 8 after that I obsessed with vampires. Still my favourite, I think new age vampires are to soft lol
One of my favs has always been Interview With The Vampire by Anne Rice since I first read it in my teens.Series wise, I'm addicted to the Chicagoland series & Black Dagger Brotherhood. When a new book comes out, waiting for it to arrive in the mail is pure torture lol

But I actually prefer the books (the books are always better).
My all time favorite vampire book...Interview with a vampire. I love the book and the movie, and that doesn't happen often.
Cirque du Freak series are a all time favorite. Bram Stoker's Dracula and Anne Rice's Interview with the Vampire & Lestat, I also enjoyed.
I've actually read A LOT of vampire books. Went through a whole obsessive phase, and read every single vampire/shifter/faerie book I could get my hands on. Anita Blake is my favorite heroine, and those books are definitely my favorites. The True Blood series feels like a weaker variation of the same story. It's lovely, but a little lacking. Anne Rice was my introduction into the world of fiction, and her books, though a little dull at times, have a special place in my heart.
For those who liked the BDB series, check out the Argeneaux Vampires. It's less bloody but just as lovely. Another series with the same variation is Dark Hunters, that one has quite a twist and Acheron is one hot hunk!! I think there's also Demonica (if I'm not mistaken) with a similar idea.
So many books, so little time.
If they've made an English book for the movie "Let me in" then I vote that. The story line for it is both romantic yet gruesome. <3

Let the Right One in. I totally agree that the book is good.
the greatest vampire book that everyone should read is Braum Stoker's version of Dracula. Stoker is the father of vampire stories and if you haven't read this version then you have nothing to compare all those that followed to. No sensationalizing just pure fright in words which give you nightmares.

I have loved and re-read many times Anne Rice's Vampire Chronicles. Interview with the Vampire and The Vampire Lestat are my favorites ... but if Lestat's in it, I'll read it!
