Marie (mmariem) | 1 comments Hi, just wanted to say hello. Scotland has an active Tartan Noir - crime fiction 'brand' , but I am looking forward to reading some new and interesting mystery and crime books.

Beth | 408 comments Hi Marie,
Welcome to the group! My husband's family is originally from northern Scotland (the Orkneys) and "Groundwater" is a Scottish last name. We've visited Edinborough in the past, and I'd love to return to Scotland--especially the Orkneys. If you're looking for outdoor-oriented mysteries set in the US, I'm your source for ideas. :)

Wendy | 581 comments I would love to hear about more US mystery books set outside. I only know Nevada Barr.

Bill Welcome to the group, Marie. You're definitely in the right place if you want to be introduced to more mystery writers. Lots of good discussions, recommendations. Hope you enjoy yourself.

Hi Wendy, I recently discovered the Longmire books by Craig Johnson. The series begins with The Cold Dish and they are the basis of the TV series Longmire.

I believe books by C.J. Box, Dana Stabenow, and Stan Jones also have a lot of outdoor setting.

You can also post this question over in the Book Recommendations folder and I'm sure there will be lots more suggestions.

Wendy | 581 comments That is enough for now. Too many books in my TBR anyway!

Sharon Michael | 674 comments Welcome to the group and I will second the recommendation for the Craig Johnson series. I lived most of my life in the area where the series is set and the author gets the area, the weather and the people right every time.

Tony Hillerman also wrote a series, set in the southwest, that is primarily an outdoor series.

We visited the Okneys last year via ferry from John O'Groats. What a fabulous place...prehistoric sites, standing stones, the best yarn for knitters. Loved it.
