I agree completely with Jen! Lots of people I know weren't thrilled with the first book, but the series gets so much better, and the end is mind blowing!

I finished Fyre (Septimus Heap, #7) by Angie Sage and it was a great end to a great series. I also found out there is going to be a spin off series set in the same world! YAY!

Also finished The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo and it was such a cute book, I loved it!

For anyone who's interested, Heidi's group is doing a buddy read of Inkheart (Inkworld, #1) by Cornelia Funke that starts on Wednesday. I know Heidi and Karen are listening to the audiobook. I have read this series before, and they are amazing books, so I am just doing a reread, probably fairly slowly. Anyone is welcome to join in!

David, I know you've been having "issues" with books lately. I know you would like this book! ;)

Getting ready to start a read a thon today, it last for two weeks. I'm hoping this gets me out of my reading slump. I've got a huge list of books I want to tackle in August. Wish me luck!

To start, I am going to read This Is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith today. I'm hoping to finish it. Its due back at the library soon! Rise (Eve, #3) by Anna Carey is due soon as well! I also have a handful of books I need to finish.

AGirlAmongstBooks (Jess Green) (agirlamongstbooks) Started "Reconstructing Amelia" by Kimberly McCreight yesterday......I'm about 3/4's of the way through.....I'm definitely hooked...

Oh whoops! I haven't read Article 5 yet. We DO have to find you some books to get you out of the book slump you're in. Hhhhmm... I haven't been overly excited about a book since we read Plague. Not a bad book slump like you've had, but not anything that's made my heart pound. Oh wait, I take that back. I'm rereading The Knife of Never Letting Go so I guess my not so bad book slump ended but I already knew I loved it, so does that count?? hahahhahah...

Also starting Patient Zero (Joe Ledger, #1) by Jonathan Maberry for the monthly read in another group. I'm in the mood for a decent zombie read.

I don't think you're the only one, but probably in the minority :)

I started and finished This Is What Happy Looks Like by Jennifer E. Smith yesterday. It was pretty good. I know someone on Goodreads was asking in a thread if we had any suggestions on books that featured famous fictional people. I don't know if she was in this group or not, but this one does, and its pretty good! Not realistic, but a fun contemporary.

Also read 212 pages of Rise (Eve, #3) by Anna Carey and its really insane so far. I'm keep praying that there is a twist on a certain character, that they are not really dead. We will see!

message 4045: by Gary (new)

Gary Mojica | 32 comments Janie- I don't Cassandra Clare but I don't really like how she makes her characters. Like they're puppets that they do whatever Clare wants them to do instead of them doing it based on their own characters (if you get what I mean). Yeah, I especially dislike Jace. lol

What bothers me is that she has epic world building, but her actual writing annoys the crap out of me. I'm also not a huge fan of all the incest. :/

Chris Sorensen (csorensen) | 218 comments Janie | (• ◡•)| (❍.❍ʋ) wrote: "I think I'm the only one who doesn't like Cassandra Clare lol"

I have on my to-do list to start hers (City of Bones), but the story just doesn't excite me. Is it okay to say that I don't think I'll like it? (I guess that's not very fair, but that's where I'm at) My experience in the past with people saying, "Ooh, you have to read this you'll love it" has been somewhat disappointing. So I figure if I keep the expectation level low...that's the way to go.

message 4050: by Trina (last edited Jul 30, 2013 08:00AM) (new)

Trina | 24 comments I wasn't a massive fan of Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments because I didn't like how she constantly changed the dynamics of the relationship between Clary and Jace, the incest thing was distrubing :( & I got fed up reading about their on/off relationship which were taking over the books.
However I loved the concept of the Shadowhunter world, her other characters were fantastic & the story apart from Clary & Jace's relationship was thrilling & I had to keep reading.
Cassie's writing got better with each book & after reading the ending of TMI #4 I was loving her writing. The Infernal Devices for me is her best work, this series for me is perfection it had every thing I was looking for in TMI and more!

Not everyone likes the same things but that's why I love reviews because I love reading other peoples opinions & recommendations :D
