Wow, that was interesting. I have a couple of thoughts on it. I didn't post them on the thread, because it has enough posts and too much drama already!
1. Wendy(the reviewer) commented that people did not have the right to critique someone's review on Goodreads. I disagree with that. As long as its respectful, any time you write or post ANYTHING on any social media sight, people have the right to give their opinions. If the comments are rude or harassing, you do have the option to block it. But everyone giving their 2 cents worth--isn't that kind of the point of social media?
2. I agree that the author did not do herself any favors here. She obviously wasn't thinking things through. Spending time worrying about negative reviews gets you nowhere fast! This thread now has over 1,800 comments and likes on it. Before the author stepped in, it had about 200. And almost everyone is refusing to read or buy the book out of principle.
3. As far as her review, it was a little scrappy, but she was completely honest. But I must say, when you stir up the pot like she did and write such a dramatic review and almost using it entertainment purposes, you should except strong reactions!
Just my thoughts.

I think people should be able to post their reviews as nice or not nice as they might be. If you are a reader, then use your brain and take everything with a grain of salt. With billions of people roaming this earth, reading the same books, you will find very diverse opinions. I would never not read a book because of one bad review. Because there will never be a person who's opinion I share to a T. And I couldn't care less whether Kiera Cass goes and likes good reviews or not. The premise of the book never sounded THAT good to me. And I tend to look at averages anyway, not specific reviews. PS. I wrote a horrible review for
, but there were tons of people who were praising it to the skies. So, I would say to the consumer...if the reviews are mixed, which they almost always are, then go to the library so you don't waste $ and MAKE UP YOUR OWN MIND!
I agree with that, Bethany. It is always your own opinion, and she was honest about it, and I think the author really overreacted to it. I was meaning others commenting on her review...she was going on in the comments how she didn't think others should be able to critique her review. I, on the other hand, think you should expect that when you post something on a social media site.
And I don't really care if others are reading it or not either--I liked it, but we all read what we want to read, lol!
I usually look at my friends reviews and rarely pay attention to community reviews. I have enough friends to go off of their opinions lol!

I think tha..."I have to agree. But I do think, as a new author, you tend to feel self-conscious about your writing, especially when you s=first publish/ show something for people to read. And it totally sucks when the top review is negative and it reflects on the author as well, sadly. That whole argument really wasn't needed in general.
I usually go through reviews my friends wrote. Especially from friends that share my opinions on most of the books I read and have read. And since I don't like writing such horrible and negative reviews (I've only written one really negative one so far lol) and I hate reading them. Okay you don't like the book? That's fine, just don't be mean about it. I've read that particular review and I've seen worse to be honest. But just give a book 1 star without even reading it because of one bad review and the author overreacting on it? That's just... I hate it when people do that.
So far I wrote one review that was a bit negative and the author overreacted. Since she send me an e-mail if I wanted to read and review the first two books in a series, I gave my honest opinion and she didn't like it. What did I do? I read the second book anyway, just because I promised. And I gave my honest opinion on that one to, as I always do in reviews, and again, she didn't like my opinion, made an excuse and said my review didn't count because of that. Well, I wasted my time on those books, but I moved on and read a book I did like. David, I think you remember that? I send you a message to you about that one back then. :P I wanted your advice on the situation.
I'm reading
Has anyone read this? What did you think? I'm not too far in yet and so far it's entertaining.
Well, I opted for
. And this morning I read
. Today I'm thinking I'll take Jenny's advice and do
or
-- maybe both!I really want to read
, since I flew through the rest of the series last week and I'm in love with Kaylee, Tod, Nash and company. But I'm saving it until I read something I hate or am disappointed in or just need something to make me smile.

YAY! You should love Shades of Earth, it is your type of book lol! I hope you enjoy Clockwork Prince more than Clockwork Angel--its a lot more about the characters.

I'm beginning to read Romeo & Juliet in English... :pAnd so the most tragic love story begins.......
Finished
today and gave it overall of 3.5 stars. It was a anthology of short stories with a dystopian theme. A few of the stories were excellent, but I think the problem was that the stories averaged about 50 pages, and that just isn't enough time for good world building.
Also finished
and loved it, gave it 4 stars! It is a mostly paranormal historical adventure.

I am quite picky but I always try to give actual reasons why I did/did not care for a book in my a review. Every once in awhile I can't help but just be overly sarcastic about a book (i.e. Beautiful Disaster and Breaking Dawn).
Can't find another place to post this - also can't find the actual thing! Anyone know where it is?From Lauren Oliver's Twitter:
"EXQUISITE CORPSE GAME!
The awesome people at Goodreads started a game of Exquisite Corpse with a bunch of fantastic authors (and me)! Check it out… or join in!
What’s the best way to celebrate May’s National Short Story Month? With a brand-new short story, of course!
We’ve enlisted 15 brave and brilliant authors, starting with Pulitzer Prize winner Jennifer Egan, for a bout of Exquisite Corpse—the classic parlor game popularized by the Surrealists, wherein each participant continues a story based only on the previous person’s lines.
All of the writers are seeing the full story for the first time with this post, but our Internet experiment isn’t over. Last up was the legendary Margaret Atwood, and now it’s your turn. Keep the game going in the comments section!

Reading The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time for class...I might read ahead, though, i don't like reading aloud with the class.
I found it and it's hilarious! Everyone can add to the story via the comments, and Marissa wrote a great one! Here it is:http://www.goodreads.com/blog/show/41...
David, you have to get in there and write something.
I just finished reading
and I'm off to start with
I'm scared, but most of all excited to end one of my favorite series!
Finished
. Review: http://www.goodreads.com/review/show/...
Now I'm starting my first ARC received from Edelweiss. yay!
Jenny wrote: "Those are both on my TBR lists, B!"Cool! :D The Elite is very good. One of the best sequels I've read so far. But if you don't like to wait long to read the next part, you should wait reading this one because the 3rd book won't come out for a while. :P
I probably will wait a little while to read The Elite, mainly because I have so many other books I need to read!
Jenny wrote: "I probably will wait a little while to read The Elite, mainly because I have so many other books I need to read!"Then wait. :P That way you won't have to wait as long as me for the 3rd book. xD
I haven't had a chance yet to start The Selection! I'm going to start a R&R for
today and then read a novella that an author contacted me about yesterday for a review,
.Then, hopefully, before Tuesday, I can also read (well, listen, I have the audio to this one) to
before the buddy read for Clockwork Princess on Tuesday!
I'm reading
today and its good so far! Should have an almost full day of reading, since work was closed for the weather and I'm stuck in town until Darryl gets off work and the kids get out of school! Hanging out at the library!

Most people have loved it. I liked it, but I didn't love it. It was a pretty good contemporary, though.
@tay, hell yeah cause it gives me a refresher on what's happening before I get to the next book in a series

I haven't written my review because I honestly dont know what to write. It felt like I was never going to finish it but that could be because I wasn't hurrying to see what happened.

haha, its all good! I appreciate your feedback. I know we don't always agree on books, but it seems like when it's one of those five-star lovelies...we're usually on the same page. I haven't read I am the Messenger or The book thief. I will add them to the ever-growing tbr list :) Thanks!
