I did like this one, surprisingly. It did not feel like a dystopian to me though, it felt like a fairy tale story. Once I got my head wrapped around that, I enjoyed it! Maxon was a major reason why! *sigh

Yeah, I heard about that. I honestly don't know what to think of it. I guess it was fair that the author didn't want a horrible review at the top, because it sucks. And it's so unfair when everyone likes the worst review there, just because.
But I absolutely loved the books, and the author doesn't seem like a horrible person.

Bethany | 171 comments I'm having a hard time finding reading material as well. I'm becoming increasingly more snobby as time goes on and my expectations rise. I wish Melina Marchetta would just clone herself already and write like 5 new books each month. It seems like I keep starting books and only get a few pages in before I give up because they are crap, too predictable or some regurgitated version of some book I've already read. I want to read something in the caliber of Fault in our Stars or Finnikin of the Rock. I want to be surprised and moved and taken in by a story....PLEASE...recommend me something...

message 2788: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2372 comments Bethany!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I feel the same way. I am total book snob now and think Melina is a Goddess. I will check you tbr pile and see if I can find anything to rec.

I just finished reading
Hate List by Jennifer Brown recently and I would put it in that caliber! Have you read any of Gayle Forman's books? If I Stay (If I Stay #1) by Gayle Forman and the sequel Where She Went (If I Stay, #2) by Gayle Forman are amazing!

I will check my library for copies of those.

@ Heidi, I actually read A Monster Calls, per your recommendation and really loved it. I've wanted to read Raw Blue, mostly because the author is Aussie and I've heard her compared to Cath Crowley, whom I love. I've not gotten around to reading Gayle Foreman's work yet, but I will give it a shot. Thanks for the recs, ladies!!!

I started and finished The Dark Divine (The Dark Divine, #1) by Bree Despain today and was pretty happy with it. I also borrowed Sun and Moon, Ice and Snow by Jessica Day George from the library and will start it tonight. Hope its good, I love retellings and I always liked this particular tale, so fingers crossed!

message 2796: by Heidi (last edited Apr 30, 2013 07:06PM) (new)

Heidi | 2372 comments Bethany for some reason Monster Calls was still in your tbr pile?? Who knows! I could have read it wrong. Yes Raw Blue's author is very much like Cath Crowley (whom I also love) and she is also an Aussie -- damn those Aussie can write! I think I had to buy Raw Blue from Fishpond World because they didn't sell it here in the States at the time. Speaking of Aussies have you read I am the Messenger by Markus Zusak by the author of Book Thief?? I loved it. Gayle Forman's book Where She Went reminded me A LOT of Melina's book Piper's Son -- but in a good way. I gave it 5 stars, which is a rarity for me.

I read Dark Divine and thought it was ok but kind of forgot about it afterwards for some reason.
