Storm Arashi (stormarashi) | 1130 comments I still need to finish Curse of the Wendigo and get on with the rest of the series. I just haven't had the mood strike me. XD; Feels weird being last.

message 14657: by Harlee (new)

Harlee | 1583 comments @Storm The mood didn't really strike me until I read The Isle of Blood. I loved that one and as soon as I finished I was like I NEED TO READ THE LAST ONE! :D

XD; Part of it is this series is really hard to find around here. They only have the stupid tiny copies now...And their not even in the YA section. Their two sections over in Science Fiction.

message 14661: by Harlee (new)

Harlee | 1583 comments @Storm I ordered the first and last from Amazon and then traded a friend for the second and third. They don't match in height though and it kind of bothers me but not too much. The ones from Amazon are US copies but the ones I traded for are UK copies. XD

Heidi | 2372 comments For those of you that like audiobooks the Monstrumologist series is excellent on audio. Storm - Curse of the Wendigo is my favorite in the series. You are in for a treat.

Me too :)

I agree it wasn't very original, though. But I just loved the whole concept and the world building. I got completely sucked into the story, and I LOVED the ending! There were a couple of big twists, too...one I foresaw, the other I completely didn't.

This book was SO INTENSE. LOVED it, and though it one of the best endings to a series I've ever read.

Caitlin (caitlinsiem) | 409 comments I finished Vengeance Road by Erin Bowman last night. It was really good. I've never read a YA Western before but after reading this I gladly would read more. It has a little bit of everything and stays true to the time. I would definitely recommend it.

Now I'm starting Bruiser by Neal Shusterman.

:D I dont get the selection comparison, the hunger games yes, but the selection hardly anything like it in there.
And yes I get that Tommy thats my reasoning for reading books sometimes as well.

Regarding The Red Queen, I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that, generally speaking, I don't do well with books that receive a lot of hype. I'm not sure why. For example, I wasn't that impressed with The 5th Wave (again, I found it predictable and too similar to other books) but I LOVED Yancey's Monstrumologist series, which hasn't received hardly any hype (except from Heidi and I LOL).

Same goes for The Red Queen, I just had really high expectations and then found it to be meh.

HOWEVER, I do get why others enjoyed it and why it received the hype that it did, because it has some of the same qualities as the books I compared it to, all of which were bestsellers.

Oda, I've seen a number of other readers compare it to The Selection as well, so I'm not alone in that comparison. I think it's because of the whole competition to win over a rich, powerful eligible bachelor, which is what The Selection was based on.

David wrote: "Regarding The Red Queen, I'm slowly coming to the conclusion that, generally speaking, I don't do well with books that receive a lot of hype. I'm not sure why. For example, I wasn't that impressed ..."

I can kind of see the comparison to the Selection in those terms. However, I thought the feel of the books were nothing alike. Red Queen got pretty dark and intense, whereas The Selection...it was kind of light and fluffy, except maybe towards the end of the last book. Actually, at times Red Queen made me think of the Lunar Chronicles. That queen was just as nasty!!

I also hadn't listened to any hype before I read it. I do that on purpose now, I close my eyes and ears and sing "LALALALA" so I know almost nothing about a book before I start, except maybe if some of my friends liked it or not :) But I want NO SPECIFICS!!! I want to discover it all on my own :)

I just finished my last month's PIFM book Little Women by Louisa May Alcott . That turned into a bit of a chore. I didn't want to quit because I'm determined to read more classics, but I'm just not a fan of the classics. I had the same problem with Pride and Prejudice. But, I do love the movies! ;)

Harlee | 1583 comments I read the first four in TMI series but didn't have any interest in going further, so I agree about City of Bones. I read Beautiful Creatures and Beautiful Darkness and liked them but they are wayyyy too long, in my opinion. I actually loved the Daughter of Smoke and Bone trilogy lol

Ahh, thats what they mean. I suppose I understand that then.

I think its a bit fun because most people (that I heard) compared red queen to hunger games AND game of thrones, neither of which am fans of. Love red queen tho.

Good to know! I actually gave DOS&B the highest rating out of the 3 books you mentioned (3 stars) and I did not hate it by any means - I was just
disappointed I did not fall in love with it like everyone else.

You have inspired me! I went through my read books and added some more to that shelf :)

I'm starting The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey. It might take me a little while to finish because I'm starting it knowing I'll probably be putting it on hold for Queen of Shadows in the next day or two.
