Liz | 65 comments I haven't been on here in forever, but I finally picked up another book, after what seems like years. I'm currently reading both Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn The Half Life of Molly Pierce by Katrina Leno and reading Freakonomics A Rogue Economist Explores the Hidden Side of Everything (Freakonomics, #1) by Steven D. Levitt for my Stat class at school, can't wait for the semester to be over so I can do more reading!

So far I've enjoyed it, but I'm not completely happy with the point I'm at, but I more than likely will continue it.

You could always try a contemporary, get one from the Library so you loose no money on it. Pluss a lot of contemporary are very fast reads,so there is that.

Btw, Heist sosiety is a contemporary too, its action contemporary but contemporary stil."

Haha. No disrespect to your recs at all, just letting you know I'm a hard customer when it comes to contemporaries. Also, in regards to HS technically being a contemporary, it still sounds like something I could get into. The thieving aspect breaks away from the mundane enough to interest me. It's really just the books about mundane folk doing mundane things that I have a hard time staying interested in. That's not even a criticism, btw. I know how good many of these books are, just typically, not my thing.

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments I finished The Shadowhand Covenant by Brian Farrey today. Man, I loved it. some of you folk should check this series out if you haven't.

I started Mercury by Hope Larson a little bit ago. Ran by it at the library and have been meaning to read a Hope Larson graphic novel for a while. Just started it, but so far it's interesting.

Geek girl; is about a 14 year old who knows "everything" about "everything" (she knoews very very much about a lot). Its a story about bullying friendship and just a little romance. A very original good read. nOt at all what I would describe as a mundane read.
Boys dont knit; about a boy after having trouble with the law ends up in a knitting class, he starts to enjoy it. He enters a knitting competition and he ends up on second place(not the usual 1st Place). Another far from mundane storyline.

When I say mundane, I don't mean it to be insulting in any way. I don't mean boring, as some people may take the word. Which is understandable, since a quick search of the definition shows that that's actually the #1 meaning of the word "lacking interest or excitement; dull." What I mean is more along the second definition: "of this earthly world rather than a heavenly or spiritual one."
Granted, I'm being loose even with that definition, but all I mean when I say it is "of this world". Or "normal". i.e. knitting, which I'd consider mundane versus, say studying monsters. And yes, robberies really do happen, but how it's described in the Heist Society synopsis makes it sound almost fantastical, which again, makes it feel less mundane to me.

All I can do is assure you that I mean absolutely no disrespect when I say the word mundane, but, by the second definition, it applies to many contemporaries IMO. Heck, some of my favorite movies are incredibly Mundane. Take my favorite movie of all time for example, The Breakfast Club. 5 kids getting to know each other in Saturday detention. Pretty mundane, but I love it. Were it a book, probably not so much. As a further example, Perks of Being a Wallflower: Loved the movie, but the book was just okay for me(even though I know, objectively, it was fantastic). So I do love these types of stories in other forms, they just rarely work for me in book form for some reason or another.

Basically, most of my reads have to have some kind of "out of this world" feel to them. That's pretty much what I read for.

So, to put it simply "It's not the books, it's me." haha.

I just finished (reread) that one last week on audio, Harlee. AND I met Jonathan last weekend (again... met him last year too) and he told me Flesh and Bone (Benny Imura, #3) by Jonathan Maberry was his favorite to write. I'll tell you why when you get into it. It's a spoiler so I'll wait patiently. :) I'm starting Flesh & Bone on audio today... Another reread for me.

Jonathan showed me a picture of the actor who will be playing Tom Imura in the movie. Heart be still!! Eeepppp!!

Glad you guys concur. The last thing I want to do is offend anyone or have them think I'm putting down something they love. Being one myself, I know how deep a fan's heart can run into the things they love. That's why, even if I dislike something, I'm glad someone made it for others to enjoy :)

And Storm, since you're a tough sell on contemporaries as well, I'll look into the ones you recommended and see possibly see which of us is pickier haha.

I've been wanting to read a Hope Larson graphic novel for years now and this book sounded so promising. It wasn't that it was bad, just kind of... flat? I don't know. I loved the artwork, though. Read a Dystopian or a fast paced middle grade.

Rebecca McCray (RebPai) | 195 comments I finished reading Red-Line The Shift by J.T. Bishop . Love the characters in this sci-fi tale. I had a little trouble adjusting to the narration style (third-person omniscient), but overall, a great read. Now, I'm working on Concealed in Death (In Death, #38) by J.D. Robb

Finished Unleashed (Uninvited, #2) by Sophie Jordan and I liked it right up till the end. I don't know if its the end of the series or not, it kind of felt like it had ended, but it was such a quick ending, as far as the dystopian factor. Not very believable at all. Since I enjoyed the characters and the main story line, though, I did give it 4 stars.

Now reading Firefight (Reckoners, #2) by Brandon Sanderson , good so far!

I enjoyed the Eragon series, but I do think he could have trimmed the books down a little. At least there's some strong female characters.
