Yeah... If you like historical fiction. It's based on part of The War Of The Roses; the whole series is based around that war.

I'm about halfway into this one - Red Queen (Red Queen, #1) by Victoria Aveyard - which is by Victoria Ayelard - and is a new dystopian by (I think) a debut author. It's ok so far; I'm listening on audio and it's narrated by Amanda Dolan. She puts a sassy/snarky attitude into the main character and it kind of fits, kind of doesn't. Hoping things pick up and elevate this one beyond just your average YA dystopian.

oh man. I agree with everyone else's choices so far-- Goosebumps, the Little House books (the follow-up series, the Rose Years, were excellent as well), Roald Dahl... I also loved BabySitters Club, Boxcar Children and Encyclopedia Brown. Never got into Nancy Drew myself. Other favorites from when I was a kid include Number the Stars, Island of the Blue Dolphins, and the Julie of the Wolves trilogy.

That's the one I'm reading right now. While it's a great story so far, i see semblances of other authors ideas in it. For example, Mare's very similar to Alina from Shadow and Bone, especially with her ability. The different Silver abilities and their house colors are reminiscient of the Grisha. That's my only issue.

Havent read the mostrumologist myself, but heard its supposed to be scary and all that.
So a book alongside would be something harmless and fun. So a contemporary book? Boys Don't Knit (Boys Don't Knit, #1) by T.S. Easton Geek Girl (Geek Girl, #1) by Holly Smale Rock War (Rock War #1) by Robert Muchamore

I'm not opposed to reading contemporary, but it's also a really hard genre to sell me on. It would have to be something downright amazing in order to keep my interest. I don't know why that is exactly haha.

message 12087: by Tommy (new)

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments @Storm + @Harlee

It'll still be a little whole before I check the series out because I have a couple series to finish + am catching up on a lot of comics and reading a LOT of scripts.
Maybe it can sync up to where we can bust a buddy read :)

Heist Society is a book I always just scrolled past, never interested in based on the cover(I know, I broke a reader commandment "Thou shall not judgeth a book by its cover...eth..."). Reading the synopsis though, it does sound pretty cool. Even if I don't get it this next time, I may have to add it to the already too long list haha.

If you HAD to guess a time roughly when do you think you'd be able to? I put books on hold before I go, so I could plan to get it around any certain time haha.

Really, really, really Tommy. You think I recmend you medicore books? I recomend only top notch books, thank you very much... # goes onto corner and sulks#
You could always try a contemporary, get one from the Library so you loose no money on it. Pluss a lot of contemporary are very fast reads,so there is that.

Btw, Heist sosiety is a contemporary too, its action contemporary but contemporary stil.

Tommy - If you want a contemporary I can only think of a few I actually enjoyed: The Schwa Was Here (Antsy Bonano, #1) by Neal Shusterman Taste Test by Kelly Fiore Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (But if you don't like yaoi take heed... There's some yaoi in here)
