I'm really looking forward to reading them!

Steph is: Pageturning578 (stephw1991) Has anyone read any mental health awareness books lately? I'm asking because I'm struggling with some things right now and I usually read books with relatable characters to help me get through my personal dilemmas.

It's only vaguely linked to struggles with mental health/depression, but you could try this one:
Jake by Michael Cargill

message 10404: by Ashley Marie (new)

Ashley Marie I just finished Croak (Croak, #1) by Gina Damico and loved it, I can't wait to pick up the other 2 in the series!

listening to Hood (King Raven, #1) by Stephen R. Lawhead on audiobook. I really like this narrator.

also reading Sabriel (Abhorsen, #1) by Garth Nix Froi of the Exiles (Lumatere Chronicles, #2) by Melina Marchetta
Sabriel is getting really interesting with the necromancy, although Froi's taking a bit longer -- but Finnikin was similar, so I'm being patient.

Ashley Marie I agree with Oda, Fangirl was a good one. I have yet to read Curious Incident so I can't offer any advice on that one.

Honestly I've never seen reason to read many "adult" books unless they caught my eye. ;) Everything else just seems the same unlike YA.

I agree, genrally I read books that catch my eye, not only fantasty\sci-fi,contemporary.I read all the genres.
I tend to read mostly ya,because whenever I try to read adult books they are either mind blowingly slow(they never get to the action)or they are all dreppresive(war books, rape books,+++).

I have heard a lot of authors say they write ya because of the emotional time when you are young, and how its all new and all. But personally am kinda tired of ya books that envolve first kisses, frt this, first that.I read ya because they are fast paced, fun and has good plots.(in dfference to most adult books I find.)
(the exception to adult books are chick lit,and agatha chrstie novels).

Tommy Hancock (tommyhancock) | 957 comments The other night I finished a couple books

The Alchemyst (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #1) by Michael Scott which took a bit to get into and felt a bit more info-dumpy at parts than I thought necessary, but ultimately I enjoyed it.

&

Zot! by Scott McCloud which, if you're a comics fan, I absolutely recommend, but if not, I don't think it's essential reading.

I'll probably start The Magician (The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel, #2) by Michael Scott by tomorrow night.

Daniel (pickyreader1) | 1925 comments I have to be honest with you guys.
I DNF'ed Brew (Salem's Revenge, #1) by David Estes . *cue expressions of shock*
I don't know what it was about it- the book has a fast pace and good world building. But I couldn't get attached to the story or the characters. I'm trying to speculate what exactly went wrong... If I can decipher the problem then I'll message David and add my comments/feedback.
Sorry- I really wanted to like it but some things you just can't control.

Don't worry about it at all, Daniel, I have thick skin these days ;) And my guess is there isn't a "problem", it's just that everyone has different preferences when it comes to books, and that's OK. I made it my goal for my two new series to each be unique and completely different than the Dwellers/Country Saga, so I didn't expect everyone who enjoyed my old stuff to like my new stuff and vice versa. That's all part of being a writer!

Not even bestselling highly praised novels are universally liked. We all have different tastes that's what makes goodreads so much fun - sharing opinions and talking about books.
