Finished reading Sanctum (Guards of the Shadowlands, #1) by Sarah Fine and despite a few flaws, I enjoyed the read!

Now reading Rosebush by Michele Jaffe which I'm pretty into already for the mystery factor. I have a few suspects already!

It's a bit dense and reads slowly, but really interesting, and I love the writing.

I wasn't a huge fan of the 5th wave. I'm skipping the second book.

Is The Eye of Minds (The Mortality Doctrine, #1) by James Dashner any good, Jenny? I have it on my Nook.

message 8871: by Heidi (new)

Heidi | 2372 comments While I thought the 5th Wave was slightly formulmatic, I enjoyed it enough to read the next book because I am invested enough to see what happens next. To be honest there are not a lot of Dystopian books that I have loved. They all seem to steal the same formulas or lack world building (aka Divergent)too much for me to become 100% invested. David's books not included of course :)

Now that I've started Rule of Thoughts, it all came back to me. Its okay, it bordered on meh for me, but the end had a really awesome twist! The problem I had was I kept comparing it to Ready Player One by Ernest Cline in my mind, and it just doesn't compare! It is a pretty quick read too.

This is one of the cases where, for me, movie > book. I thought the book was solid, but thought the movie was brilliant.

I have picked up 4 different books today and kept putting them down trying to figure out what mood I'm in. I've finally settled on Rage Within (Dark Inside, #2) by Jeyn Roberts and for anyone who has read this, (view spoiler). It's been so long since I read Dark Inside (Dark Inside, #1) by Jeyn Roberts and I can't remember.

message 8892: by Teresa (new)

Teresa Daniel - another great review. I need to start following your reviews. The reasons I didn't like The 5th Wave are many. It reminded me of The Host ( sorry I know a lot of people loved that book but to me it was just awful). Also Cassie's little brother's character was so unbelievable. I have kids his age - they do not talk or act like that at all. I also had a hard time understanding the motivation if the invading aliens. That always ruins things for me.

Daniel (pickyreader1) | 1925 comments Thanks Teresa! Interesting point about Sammy. Maybe the author did it to make him more relatable to the target audience?

LOL thanks for saying that :) I'm doing my best to make each of my new series as original and unique as possible as I too have become quite tired with the genre because there are too many similar books. Hopefully I didn't screw it up with Brew, I'll let you all be the judges!

message 8900: by Daniel (new)

Daniel (pickyreader1) | 1925 comments I'm not reading anything at the moment- the buddy read for Everlost (Skinjacker, #1) by Neal Shusterman is starting on Thursday, so I'm holding back until then.

After that, I might try City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare again. I usually hate fantasy of any kind, and I already put it down once, but I'm willing to give it another go.
