Roxanne (roxannebaggott) | 10 comments I am new to Goodreads, after using Shelfari for a long time. When I add books from Calibre, it is putting them into the shelf I have assigned it to AND to the shelf "read". I have tried removing the books from "read" and I don't have te option to uncheck it. I have manualy tried to remove them from batch edit, but they are still there. I have 1100+ books and would like to figure this out before trying to add them.

Banjomike | 5166 comments The read, currently-reading, and to-read ‎shelves are sort-of compulsory. If you add a book to any shelf Goodreads assumes you are either currently reading it, going to read it, or have already read it. If you don't want to actively use "read", then just ignore it.

Krystal109 | 1086 comments Or change the book to to-read or the currently reading shelf.

In other words, a book has to be on 1 of the mandatory shelf. They can only be on 1 of the 3, but you can put them on as many of your own shelves as you want.

There is another option. You can make another shelf "exclusive", and then books can be on that shelf instead of the read, to-read, or currently-reading shelves.

A book must be on exactly one of your exclusive shelves. You have at least three exclusive shelves which you cannot remove, but you can add more.

side note: the GoodReads Feedback Group is a more appropriate place for this kind of question.

I think the OP does not want the existing exclusive shelves so I didn't mention that she can have as many more of them as she wants. I've only got a "Wanted" shelf as an extra exclusive in order to combine "to read" and "need to get".

Roxanne (roxannebaggott) | 10 comments Thank you for all the answers! And I will know to post on the feedback group next time! :)

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments Roxanne - check your transfer settings in the Calibre widget, as an aside, also check that you have the eBook ISBN in as otherwise you will have to correct it manually in GR for each book... Voice of experience :( (Messed up some after looking for nicer covers >.<)

Roxanne (roxannebaggott) | 10 comments Emy. I would like to post a question about my goodreads iPad app but I have no idea where to post it. This forum seems to be for librarians. Could you help me?

Amara Tanith (aftanith) In message four, there is a link to the Feedback group. That's where you'll want to post.

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments Not on the iPad, sorry - Android for me :P. Also, that's a techie area, so I'd suggest the Feedback Group linked above as it's more geared to that side. Librarians are the ones who fix records rather than the ones who do the mechanics, which is where I would put Apps and suchlike. Good luck :)
