Help! I can't remember a title

Hello guys, I just joined the group and I am need of some help remembering an awesome book series. I read it years ago and of course can't remember the title or author. Here's what I remember, hope you can help because I know I haven't finished the series...
I know it's a fantasy/sci-fi
I know it's a series
I remember random things,
The main characters are a brother and sister,
the brother gets taken to an island where there are some crazy witches who use him or his blood.
There is a sorcerer who crosses an ocean of dead.
I think there are strange creatures, part man part bird.
I don't know if this is enough but I sure hope so because I remember loving the series!

Hey Lauren, this series too me sounds like NIGHT WORLD by L.J. SMITH.
