Andy | 136 comments Here's the entry I'm talking about: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/11...

Looking up the ISBN (10 & 13) in a quick google search points to the cover matching, but nothing else. I don't have the book (yet) so I can't really tell you anything about it. If you can tell me what to do, I'd be happy to take care of it... tomorrow. (at a guess, separate it, edit the entry to use the default description and the correct title and combine it with the correct book?)

Thanks,
Andy

Krystal109 | 1086 comments What's interesting is worldcat agrees with the current info.

L is for Lawless is Sue Grafton's 12th book, while the current entry is the 15th.

Amara Tanith (aftanith) Worldcat and several booksellers claim it's supposed to be "O" is for Outlaw. Many other booksellers claim it's "L" is for Lawless. I'll keep looking to see if I can find anything more concrete.

Edit: I think this might have to wait until you or someone else has a physical copy of this ISBN in their hands--all the records I've managed to find are split pretty much 50/50.

Krystal109 | 1086 comments What's interesting is that the image is from ingram, but macmillion supplied all the info. And St Martin's is an imprint of macmillian.

The cover seems to be universal, though. And it matches L. Interestingly, WorldCat's data is incomplete in a way that indicates none of its member libraries have actually reported this book (and if you follow the links, none actually have it).

I suspect the cover is correct, and the currently listed title is not. I would separate, edit, and combine accordingly. (And of the 6 users who have it shelved, there's no way to tell which book they thought they were shelving.)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 316 comments That's hilarious.... :) Love when things like this happen. Is there anyone who has shelved this edition who has actually read it and might be able to verify?

EDIT: I just commented on a couple reviews to see if the people have copies. If they respond, I'll update the books accordingly (unless they've been changed correctly already)...

message 8: by Andy (new)

Andy | 136 comments OK... It took me a while, but I remembered how to get this information:
This edition: 3.33 average rating, 3 ratings, 2 reviews, added by 6 people

So, is there any way to find who those 6 people are? I know I never asked THAT question before... did I? :-D

message 9: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 316 comments Under Community Reviews, click "filter" then "this edition."

Andy | 136 comments Well, I ordered a copy, even though I'll probably lose it before it's time to read it. It's a small price to pay, right? ;-)

message 11: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 316 comments I don't know... how much did it cost? ;)

THAT's dedication.

What will you do if they send a copy with a different ISBN, though? ;)

message 13: by Andy (new)

Andy | 136 comments rivka, I'll return it. What good is an A-Z guarantee if they don't stand behind it? This is not the book I ordered. Now if it's the same ISBN, but a different cover... that would be normal in my life. But if it says O or L, that's enough to answer our questions.

(and if it IS a different cover, I'll order a new one.)

Sara ♥, it's not the $0.01 I paid for the book, it's the $3.99 for the shipping that makes me crazy.

That guarantee does not apply to Amazon Marketplace. And if you paid $4 with the breakdown you mentioned, I'm guessing that's where you ordered from.

Good luck!

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 316 comments I REALLY hope the book has the L cover with the O text. That would be HILARIOUS! Better open it and check when it gets to you!

message 16: by Krystal109 (new)

Krystal109 | 1086 comments I have seen this stuff before. My boyfriend has a book by a publisher that is half one book and half another book. Somewhere in the middle the printing got messed up and a whole other book replaced the last half.

Damn it, rivka, you're right (again)! The last problem I had was with a partner, but it was an Amazon Fulfilled partner. oh, well...

Sara ♥, you're just weird, but I love your sense of humor! :-D

OK. I just received this today. The ISBN matches, the cover matches, the description matches. So it's just separate and recombine. Do we worry about the 5 people who shelved it or let them be surprised?

Sara ♥ wrote: "Under Community Reviews, click "filter" then "this edition.""

Thanks, Sara ♥. I somehow missed that until today.

Same text as the Kindle sample for L Is for Lawless. Extra points for a suspicious mind though. ;-) You ever think of becoming a detective?

message 21: by Sara ♥ (new)

Sara ♥ (saranicole) | 316 comments I would be a TERRIBLE detective! I can't even guess whodunit in mystery novels! :P

message 22: by Andy (new)

Andy | 136 comments It looks like an onix macmillan import fixed everything except the membership in "O is for Outlaw". Do we just go ahead and separate and recombine?

A separate issue. It also looks like onix macmillan is consistently changing format: 'Mass Market Paperback' to 'Paperback'. Do we need to go thru and fix them or can we report that to the import team?

Actually, we may be removing MMP from the dropdown and pushing all to paperback.

Andy | 136 comments rivka wrote: "Actually, we may be removing MMP from the dropdown and pushing all to paperback."

If you're collecting 2 cents worth, I'd REALly hate to see that. I have enough problems with people who don't know the difference between hardcover and paperback, let alone trade and mass market. I'd have sworn that someplace I'd seen sizes (dimensions) mentioned, but I didn't see anyplace where that could be entered.

You might find this discussion of interest.

Dimension listings were for the now-defunct bookswap, so they were removed when bookswap was shut down.

I don't remember if I thanked you for this or not. (rolls eyes)
