Yz the Whyz (whyz) | 9327 comments Congrats on that, Lori....you must be excited.

message 252: by Lori (new)

Lori (moderatrixlori) Thank you. I am very excited.

Kenjii, the gentleman they chose to direct this year's Sing for the Cure chorus, is a friend of our director and he has coached us before. He recommended us. It's quite an honor and we are thrilled to have been invited.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments What website can I go to to look up book sales and the position of book on the best seller list in particular, romance. E-books etc.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Remembering MJ and Farrah Fawcett

I wasn't able to post yesterday. Was out with my little sister. Yay! she is here from Texas. When I came home my family and Brother Nick was here. So when my little sister confirmed MJ had passed I felt a chill pass over me. I dunno. I wasn't fan but still. A legacy is done. He did not have children.

I have no real memories of Farrah. I was born in 1980 so MJ was more my time as far as his later career. If anyone wants to share their thoughts I'd love to hear something about Farrah.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Here is a look at the new cover and re-release of Born of Fire (League Series) By Sherrilyn Kenyon Nov. 3rd 2009.

Not that I care much about him but he's in the news so much its hard not to hear news at the moment. He had 3 children, 2 boys and a girl.

Besides Farrah Faucett, Ed McMahon also passed away (best known as Johnny Carson's sidekick).

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Your right. I did say he had children then I thought "Did he?" B/c I didn't follow his career. I had forgotten, he kept them out of the press so long.

I heard about Ed McMahon passing too. Waaay before my time. He probably had a great career but I only remember him from those low grade commercials.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) Ed's best known for opening The Tonight Show by introducing Johnny Carson with.... "Heeeeeerreeee's Johnny!!"

Later he went on to become a spokesman for some insurance company and hosted Star Search.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) ARGH!!!! A couple months back I found a book at the library, The XYZ Murders by Ellery Queen. I checked it out but didn't have time to get to read it before it was due so I returned it to check out later. I was going to use it for the A-Z challenges for my "Q" author and my "X" title. Guess what? The library has no idea what's become of the book as it's not only not on their shelves, but no longer in their computer catalog inventory either. I can find another Q author (Ellery Queen or Amanda Quick, etc.) but absolutely no clue whatsoever on an "X" book now. :(

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Yikes! That is terrible. Well best gets to searching before the challenge is over right?

I found a link for teen PNR that may be of interest. Not sure the guidelines when it comes YA vampire (dark) fiction but I am pretty sure it'd board on that fine line so that kids and adults can enjoy it. Anyway I saw some romance authors names and thought I'd post the link hear too.

Vampire (Dark) YA romance

Well, I went back and checked the rules regarding "X" book titles and it said either skip it or find any title with an X in it. So going back over what I read this year, one book has the word SIX in the title and would count. The Ellery Queen book however fit beautifuly so upset now I didn't read it when I had my hands on it. Still have to look for a "Q" author so either something else by Ellery Queen, Amanada Quick, etc.

Sarah | 367 comments Here's my WTF. I have chicken pox. Yes, I am an adult, and I developed chicken pox yesterday. Never had 'em as a kid, even though in fourth or fifth grade I sat next to a kid with a raging case. Now, I get them. Grr.

Any tips for survival?

message 263: by Kasia (new)

Kasia Get some good anti-itch cream, otherwise it's going to drive you nuts. And hang on there!! I know the older you are the more severe the symptoms (I had it late too), but you can get through it!

Take care and remember to not scratch yourself.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments I never remember the "bad side" of having chicken pox. Tho I remember having them. My Mom bathed us in baking powder (Arm and Hammer). so that must have helped. The idea was to get in the tub and "cake" the powder on and let in soak for however long. Then rinse and soak in the powder for a regular bath. It dried out the pox.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Hope you feel better tho, whatever the case.

message 266: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 367 comments Thanks, Kenjii. I've done the baking soda deal since day 1, and I think your mom was right. Day 5 in, and I feel like I'm being poked with hot pokers all over. Not itching so much as pain. Maybe that's the difference in getting them when you're older.

At least I've made a huge dent in my TBR pile. I've still got at least a week before the doctor says I can go back to work. More reading will ensue...

Sallie(GeorgiaGirl) (shuga) | 1190 comments Sarah - try an Aveeno bath the one w/just collodial? oatmeal - you can find it in the aisle @ Walmart over where the cosmetics are - my ex had them late in life too & his turned into shingles - may be this is why you have the pain? hope you feel better & hope this helps...

message 268: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 367 comments Thanks, Sallie. I'll add that to my list. I'll try anything if it gets me through this faster and with less pain.

Unapologetic_Bookaholic | 2002 comments Ok WTF. I was called in my clean up a doggie doo mess off the runner rug we have in the living room. The WTF part is as I am doing it my Mom is telling me step by step HOW TO DO IT! If you wanted it done a certain way, why TF call me from the back of the house to do it. Do it urself!

Ashley♥Alexis | 309 comments I figured I’d bring this thread back from the dead.

So about a week ago someone recommended me to read Dark Light by Jayne Castle and I loved it. I asked her. Hey! Where have you been keeping this author?! And she's like "that's Jayne Ann Krentz" I’d never actually read anything by Jayne Ann Krentz but I’ve heard good things so I figured I should grab a couple of her books at the library. I've only read two so far but I’ve really enjoyed them. So usually when I get obsessed over an author I do a Google search, stalk their web-page, the works. Well my Google search reviled that my new flavor of the week author also wrote under the name Amanda Quick and that gave me pause. I'd read a bunch of Amanda Quick novels a few years ago and vowed to never pick her up again. So I’m thinking, I wonder if there are other authors that I love their work under one pseudonym but not the other. I mean, essentially for me when I’m browsing a book store I look for the names I know and love. I dunno I just feel a bit betrayed. I'm trying to be the bigger person in this, so I decided to pick up an Amanda Quick book off the shelf randomly. I got The Paid Companion. It sounds good. I hope it's everything I want it to be.

Jayne Ann Kretz/Amanda Quick/Jayne Castle is the same writer. Other lesser know pseudonyms of hers are Stephanie James/Jayne Bentley/Amanda Glass and Jayne Taylor.

I'm a big fan of hers, and I look at her books as comfort reads. They are pretty formulaic, but I pick them up, especially if I don't feel good, like sad or depressed.

Jayne Ann Krentz is contemporary, Amanda Quick is historical and Jayne Castle is futuristic.

message 272: by Purple (new)

Purple (purpletan) | 1221 comments I completely agree with Yz. Amanda Quick/Jayne Castle is a comfort read. I love Paid Companion! :) It was exactly what I needed at the time that I gave it 4 to 5 stars I think, it made me feel good. Anyway, you should try Zinnia too.

message 273: by Sandra J (last edited Sep 15, 2010 05:16AM) (new)

Sandra J Weaver (sandraweaver) | 366 comments I love JAK in all her incarnations. The Paid Companion was good, but I found I really liked the Arcane Society books from Amanda Quick, especially The Third Circle. My favorite older Amanda Quick book is Ravished, but then I'm a sucker for anything "Beauty and the Beast." If you don't care for Amanda Quick, Ashley, stick with her contemporaries under JAK and her futuristics under JC. I really don't care for historical romance. Amanda Quick's are the one exception to that.

message 274: by Purple (new)

Purple (purpletan) | 1221 comments The Paid Companion was historical :) Ravished is on my TBR and I've seen several marked it as their fave. I will get to it soon. As for Arcane Society, I like it as alternate when I get bored with the other Paranormals, and they remind me of that Trilogy, Amaryllis, Orchid and Zinnia. Sounds like remakes really but still like them. I'm waiting for a copy of the latest in the Dreamlight Trilogy.

Ashley♥Alexis | 309 comments Finally finished listening to The Paid Companion, the audio book and it was really good. im glad i got the audio book instead of reading it because it was a bit slow paced so I don't think i would have finished it. With school starting back up Ive been way too busy to read as much as i'd like but having an audio book is super convenient from when i'm traveling and walking to classes and stuff. I plan to check out some more of Amanda Quick's audio books.

I also just picked up Zinnia the actual paperback, sounds like my cup of tea. Thanks for the suggestion.

exxcentrica The bad news: I was riding my bicycle last Thursday and got hit by a car. Broke my right arm, 6 stitches in my forehead, and 4 days in the hospital.
The good news: it could have been worse, and forced vacay = plenty of reading time

But you are right, I could have been worse. Well, hope the extra reading time is keeping you entertained. Get well soon.

Off Topic(not like this thread really has a topic)
I've been listening to audio books for the past 3 weeks and now i cant bring myself to actually pick up a hardcover book. I think i spoiled myself by enjoying being read to *sigh* But there are a bunch of books i just got that Ive been looking forward to reading and now I cant work up the excitement to even attempt to pick it up.

LOL....I love audiobooks, too. I love being read to, especially when you get a fantastic reader. It just adds more to the storytelling aspect of a book.

Ashley♥Alexis | 309 comments Are any of you goodreads fans of Sandra Brown and notice how she (or her publicist >.<) gives every book she reads a 5 star rating? that really bugs me. I count on people i've friend-ed ratings to help me decide if im going to pick up a book or not. I guess maybe she gives them all 5's so no other author is upset...who knows.

message 286: by Tate (new)

Tate Jackson (tatejackson) | 9 comments So, here’s the thing. I spent so much time promoting The Undead Heart by Tate Jackson (me) after it was published that I kinda lost my train of thought. I had all kinds of awesome ideas for the next installment of The Blood Thirst Series but I didn’t take care of them like I should have and they all died {really, in my yard is a row of my ideas, all with plant tags on them to serve as their headstones. I had had hopes that they would grow back after my dog started watering them everyday but no such luck}. Now I need your help!
If you would like a chance to read your idea in my next novel then this blog is for you! You will have to read The Undead Heart to submit your ideas but unfortunately I can’t just give copies away {Amazon doesn’t like it and I can understand that. They’re running a business and they don’t make money by just giving books away}. But I came up with a compromise.
You can go to amazon.com and get a copy of the Kindle version of The Undead Heart for $6.99 {a lot cheaper than the hard copy version at $18.99} and you don’t even have to have a kindle handheld device to get it! Amazon offers a Kindle PC eBook reader download for free on their site! They also offer a free download for Macs and free Kindle eBook reader apps for mobile phones! I promise that this is not a ploy to sell books {mostly because at $6.99 I’m only making $.09 per copy sold. YIPPEE!}.
I honestly need your help. I want you to read the book and send me your ideas for the second book in the series, Blood Thirst {little ideas, big ideas, ANY IDEAS AT ALL!!} You can send plot ideas or just things you’d like to see your favorite characters say or do. I need your ideas as quickly as possible because I’ve promised Blood Thirst would be out by March 2011 (that’s only 5 months away, folks}. Send your ideas to bloodthirstseries@yahoo.com. If I pick your idea I will (a.) give you full credit in the book for pulling my ass out of the fire, (b.) Stay in constant contact with you throughout the writing of Blood Thirst {just in case you have anymore great ideas I can pick from your brain}. (c.) Write you in as a character in Blood Thirst or the 3rd and last book in the series {I’ll leave that choice up to you). I’ll also send you a free hard copy of Blood Thirst when it’s released in March.
{The Undead Heart is not an erotica novel but does contain sex, adult language and adult humor. Parental discretion is advised}
