Tom Cusworth (tomcusworth) | 3 comments An astronaut is in his spacecraft when there is a catastrophic decomprseeion accident whch kills him. His body is discovered hundreds (thousands?) of years later and his intact brain is placed in a cloned body. The cloning process also produces another brain and as far as I can remember, there is a large part of the book which deals with the ethics of cloning and the "potential personality" which the blank brain may develop's rights.

Sorry i can't be more specific, but I read this book when I was eight or nine, around 1978 or 79. It was my introduction to sci fi and I'd like to find a copy for old time's sake. Humanity had colonised Pluto where the bulk of the story took place (IIRC)

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Tom, are you still looking for this book?

Tom Cusworth (tomcusworth) | 3 comments Yes I am. If you (or anyone else) have any clues as to who it's by, or what the title is, I'd really appreciate it.

Something by James P. Hogan perhaps? Inherit the Stars involves the discovery of a 50,000 year old astronaut, but I'm not sure if cloning is involved. Hogan has written at least one novel about cloning.

Tom Cusworth (tomcusworth) | 3 comments I read the description of that one, but I don't think that's it. I am interested in reading that one though, so I'll add it to my reading list, thanks!

In case you're interested in ancient astronauts, in general, here's a list on Wikipedia:

I agree that "The Tenth Planet" sounds like the right book. Also Tom shelved it in December 2016. Moving to Solved.
