Sarah Sony Pictures TV has purchased rights and Ron Moore is going adapt the books for the small screen.

Heidi Belleau Here's hoping it gets a good budget and a channel that won't require much editing for content! ;)

Sarah I would have loved for HBO to pick it up or even BBC.

Danielle WHAT! oh gosh I hope they don't screw it up! anyone know anything more about this?

message 5: by Dee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dee DG was talking about it yesterday on Twitter apparently - they are shopping around for a channel right now to air it - like Sarah, i'm hoping HBO or showtime, a la Game of Thrones - with each book being approx 1 season

Bhawya i wish bbc had taken the initiative...they did a fine job with pride and prejudice...well i hope they stick to the content...i have just read outlander and dragonfly in amber...but loved both of ya...claire and jamie...

message 7: by Wanda (new) - added it

Wanda Hoping it's a network I already pay for and not one that will cost way too much to add to my Dish plan...

Danielle wow that is awesome! I too hope showtime or HBO picks up the series. My mouth is watering thinking about Jamie already. mm scrumptious

Sarah I know Ron Moore re-imagined and wrote for Battlestar Galactica 2003 which was a amazing series, but all of his projects have been sic-fi so I am a little wary of the direction of the show.

Karen Galfo I think Chris Hemsworth (Thor) would be a great Jamie!!!

Sarah Karen wrote: "I think Chris Hemsworth (Thor) would be a great Jamie!!!"

A year ago I disagree with someone for suggesting Chris, but I have changed my mind! You might be right!

Heather Hope it's BBC - they always do a great job!

message 13: by Christina (new)

Christina Marie OMG, this is awesome! I am curious as to what channel is going to pick this up! I, too, am hoping it is a channel that I already have but if it isn't, I'll do what I must do haha

Shawn I am of two minds here. I would love to get my Jamie/Claire fix weekly; though I am very weary of the liberties taken in changing the story. Example, True Blood doesn't follow the original story much after the first season. Vampire Diaries same thing. DG wove a story and charaters that we love and are vested in and each book is as good or better than the last. She painstakenly wrote the "EPIC" of all epic novels and put years into each one. I would hate to see that ruined for the sake of "creative license".

Julie AWESOME!!! Can't wait!

Leslie Karen wrote: "I think Chris Hemsworth (Thor) would be a great Jamie!!!"

Oh, yes, he could be a wonderful Jamie!

Wanda Shawn wrote: "I am of two minds here. I would love to get my Jamie/Claire fix weekly; though I am very weary of the liberties taken in changing the story. Example, True Blood doesn't follow the original story ..."

I feel the same

Katherine I wish that DG could have creative control. She is so amazing and I believe that she could really translate her epics to the screen.

Joanne Chris Hemsworth would be an excellent choice!

Joana am I the only one that's not the tiniest bit excited? I'm really afraid they're going to "ruin" the series for me, so I don't think I'll even watch it, but I'd love some feedback :3

Amanda I would love if they did an HBO thing, that would be awsome, and yea i have to admit chris hemsworth could deffinatly be Jamie. I've read all of the books, each one is so special with so many wonderful and sometimes horrid moments, they better do it justice or Im gonna be really really mad.

Eleanor Ooooooh this will be great...as long as they do it properly and get Scottish Actors...John Michie!!

So excited but at the same time a bit wary. Books turned to movies/series don't work out that well. Last book turned to movie I watched was The Lucky One and I was sitting throughout the whole movie comparing it to the book. It was not pleasant. Though I have to say Game of Thrones is doing really well, so HBO would be a good choice, but what are the chances they'll take it? If not HBO which station would give the books justice?

message 24: by Chanouel (last edited Jul 21, 2012 01:09PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Chanouel I'm always apprehensive about books being made into movies or series. But I'm also always curious to see how it will turn out. I'm almost always disapointed.
HBO did a very good job with Game of Thrones in the first season, not moving too far away from the book but the second season wasn't as good.
So if Outlander is made into a series, I will definitely watch but only to see how they mess with it, lol.
I know he's too old to play young Jamie, but Gerard Butler would be a great older Jamie. He's played lots of similar roles before. And he's Scottish.

message 25: by Dee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dee from his tweets, ron Moore is a huge DG/outlander fan and wants to keep it as true to the series as possible

message 26: by M. (new) - rated it 4 stars

M. Oh, gosh. I'm afraid that if this series isn't done by HBO or Showtime it will turn into another goofy historical series.

Lectus Finally some producer woke up. This is great! Really. But I don't think that I can stomach Jamie's suffering on TV!

Betty Weimer Sarah wrote: "I would have loved for HBO to pick it up or even BBC."

I do too..they do wonders with series..look at Game of Thrones

Carol Crigger Very cool! I wonder who would be good to play the major roles. I think many men could play Jamie, but it's Claire who will carry the show.

I feel the same when I tried to watch Pillars of the Earth series...same characters different story.. I would hate to see that done to Outlander series

Yes, but HBO has done a great job with Game of Thrones. They changes a little (I think to fit a book into a season) but nothing that really matters. I agree with you on True Blood,They changed too much and the show is really bad this year!

I think the acting and cheesy set design ruined Pillars.

message 33: by Megan (new) - added it

Megan I hope this actually gets through - Gabaldon has allowed a lot of people the opportunity of making it into a tv show or film for (I want to say) at least 15 years now and nothing has happened yet. Last I heard she was excited about this guy though. Here's to hoping! (If you can ever go to an author reading/discussion with her, they are so much fun! She's amazing!)

Also, I'm on the Chris Hemsworth team!

Nelsongo8 Nelson While I am as excited as the next at the thought of having a series made out of this, I am extremely worried about the liberties that many producers make. On the other hand, I do believe that certain film-makers understand how to do it in a way that, while it may change the storyline to a small and minor degree, it does not hurt the integrity of the overall story, such as in the Lord of the Rings series. I hope that D.G. can find the sort of producer that understands the series as it was meant to be and has a personal appreciation for the story of Jamie and Claire.

message 35: by Dee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dee Ron Moore who is going to be adaptin the books is apparently a huge DG and J&C fan and wants to keep it as true to the books as possible according to tweets from him and DG

Chanouel Do we have an approximate date for the first season to air?

message 37: by Dee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dee they were still shopping it around to networks - no one had picked it up yet, so got to factor that, script writing, filming editing etc...at the earliest probably something like 2014, or later

Victoria (daisyduck) This isn't going to be popular but I hope they edit the living daylights out of it, if it ever gets to screen. No-one needs lengthy scenes of her brushing her hair and spraying perfume on it. Yawn.
DG never uses 5 words if she can think of 40 to do the same job!
That will not work on screen.
At all.

message 39: by Dee (new) - rated it 5 stars

Dee but they say a picture is worth a 1000 words, so for each scene like that, its essentially chopping out all the words

Chanouel Dee wrote: "but they say a picture is worth a 1000 words, so for each scene like that, its essentially chopping out all the words"

LOL!!!

Abigail Sharpe Wanda wrote: "Shawn wrote: "I am of two minds here. I would love to get my Jamie/Claire fix weekly; though I am very weary of the liberties taken in changing the story. Example, True Blood doesn't follow the o..."

Same here. I'm so excited yet so worried at the same time.

Victoria (daisyduck) Dee wrote: "but they say a picture is worth a 1000 words, so for each scene like that, its essentially chopping out all the words"

Lol I hope so then! If they cut the first third of the novel by about 60% then they will have done some really good work.

message 43: by Lisa (new) - rated it 5 stars

Lisa About time, this is a wonderful collection loved all the books could not get enough of Claire & Jamie`s story.
But you are right if they don't have a good enough budget, like many good books that are adapted for the screen, somehow they loose the essence of the story and this is one that would be a sad lost to people who have not read the books.

Sondra Joana wrote: "am I the only one that's not the tiniest bit excited? I'm really afraid they're going to "ruin" the series for me, so I don't think I'll even watch it, but I'd love some feedback :3"

I am kind of in the same mind set as you are. I have a few books that I have read and really liked over the years that they have made into movies or series, and they never live up to what is running through my head while I'm reading. I might still watch it to see how it goes, but that all depends on who does it. It needs to be a company that has experience with period pieces, or you can pretty much forget about it being worth it's weight on screen.
This series is one of those series that they have to be very accurate with because the books get read repeatedly by readers. We know all the little ins and outs of the characters, and their quirks and whatnot. So if any of that falls to the way side, we will notice, and if anyone is like I am, you will be so stuck on what was not right that you won't be able to really notice if it was overall a good production aside from the books.

Allison I am SOOOO EXCITED to hear this!!!! I hope it turns out well!!!

Allison Does anyone know when this may be??
