I definitely imagined Eric differently, but what won me over with Skarsgaard is more his charisma than his attractiveness. I don't find him handsome to be honest. But he projects the charm, the nerve, the confidence, the humour of Eric. Hopefully they'll find an actor who can do that for our Jamie.

Heather Oh okay, I didn't read the whole thread. That's awesome then!

Laura I was at the Tucson Book Fest this previous weekend and, per DG, she said yes, Starz picked it up, yes there is a pilot episode written, yes she likes it, but that yes, these things can still fall apart so nothing is in stone.....yet.

Have no fear ladies. I said someone "like Gerard Butler". Not actually GB himself. Someone who is not going to fake an accent, and someone with the rugged sex appeal, and ingenuity Jamie has, who is fit enough to kick everyone's a-- in a brawl. Don't forget, Jamie starts out in his early 20's, but for those who have all the books in the series, he is still a man's man, 25-plus years later!

I just hope Hollywood doesn't cast some "boy band" fresh faced, too cutesie character. Jamie's much more of a man than that- even at 22 in the very beginning of the story... He's no boy. I think on that we can all agree.

Dee Gerald Butler and Chris Helmsworth are the two names that people throw around continuously in who should be Jamie..they have shown up multiple times on this page - all I say is IMHO for the love of the series, neither of them please

Lucy Megronigle I absolutely love the Outlander series. DG is so creative. Would love to see it come to life on the screen. Downton Abbey has been so successful; I'd like to see the same people tackle Outlander.

Linda I read the first 2 books and loved them. I find it hard to commit to one series because they're so many good books out there that I feel that I have
I have to read them àll.

Tialisa I was all ready to say Showtime should do it but they rushed through the Tudors so fast they really did it no justice at all. Starting at the end of Henry's Marriage to Catherine and whipping through the other wives in only 4 seasons was criminal. I loved the cast and the costumes but I would rather the Outlander series be more than a flash in the pan.

Suzisu I think making the Outlander books into a TV series would be terribly easy to get wrong, and almost impossible to get really right, even with some big name actors. The recent adaption of Kate Mosse's book 'Labyrinth' being a case in point.... I think it fell terribly short of doing the book any kind of justice. Nice try, but sadly not a patch on the original book.

Couldn't stand it if Jamie and Claire were not the right people or didn't have the right faces or chemistry... or if other important characters like Jenny and Ian and Murtagh were just.... wrong. Nooooo It just wouldn't be right at all.

Labyrinth was, dare I say, lame...

Since we all use our imagination, along with an author's description/writing, I'd think making any book into a movie would have to be difficult. We all think differently and have made up in our minds what the characters should be like. To do a lengthy series like "The Outlander," would be tough.

"Master and Commander" tried at the Patrick O'Brian's nautical fiction series combining aspects of several of the early books. It was entertaining, but the not the same as the books themselves.

I'm sure there are plenty of such examples.

Yes, that does just about sum it up :-)

May Wong Congratulations to Diana! What a lovely person. The books are wonderful.

Ceasar Lourenco I'm very excited about seeing these books becoming a series like Game of Thrones.
I hope it stays true to the books like GOT and not butchered like Sword of Truth was!!!
I read and loved the Wizards First Rule series and they totally ruined it when it was done as a TV series. They even had Goodkind on hand overseeing production and doing some rewriting.
Please do not change anything. It's got a built-in audience who loved the book, so why make changes?

I think you're fairly safe there, as this is a TV show and they're both a-list stars... I'd be well up for them finding some unknown who fits (and is a good actor).. That's basically what they did with most of the younger cast in Game of Thrones. Scotland must be full of young actors who would kill for the chance.

Heidi Rice Then again if Hugh Laurie can play an American convincingly - and Henry Cavill can play Superman.. I'm not sure you necessarily need a Scot. They are actors after all!

Michael Here's hoping it will be like Game Of Thrones.
