Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I can totally see this venue for the show! An HBO is exactly what I've been hoping for.

Northern Light (norrthernlight) | 219 comments that would be brilliant but only if it's faithful to the books. Hope it's picked up by a British company

Dee (austhokie) | 1124 comments I would totally subscribe to HBO or showtime if this came true

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I'm hoping for something HBO or Showtime, like Game of Thrones.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments That's exactly what I was coming in to say. A BBC company would work great, but would they really be able to handle some of the subject matter the way it would need to be done?

I mean, as hard as it is to watch, we absolutely need to have Jamie's (view spoiler) to be true to the brutality of it.

I've never seen a BBC movie, so I have no idea. I do know that an HBO or a Showtime would get away with more.

Kristin (kikitaranto) | 101 comments I am so excited about this!!! I was really wishing they would do a cable series too. Too much of a story to put in a two hour movie. Yeahhhh!!

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I'm sure that like with any adaptation some things will be altered to fit into the alloted time. Game of Thrones had some things moved around, some characters moved around.

It's inevitable to translate it appropriately from print to screen.

As long as they don't make any major plot changes, or anything that seems cavalier, I think I'll be okay.

Jeanne (jeannekc) | 3 comments Personally, I think some of the books might require more than one season to do them justice. I noticed in Game of Thrones, book 2 was much larger than book 1 and much was dropped in order to get it squashed into only 1 season :-( These books are the same. Why Echo its the biggest of all, isn't it? How could they condense that into just 10 1 hour episodes? Now if a "season" consisted of more episodes, it might be possible! The books True Blood is based upon are tiny, but they have strayed so far off from the books, it's not worth discussing.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments I heard that Game of Thrones, stuff isn't removed completely, they just moved some things around so the story comes across better. So like Jojen and Meera will be in season 3, and things that were in book three started happening season 2.

I also heard that they're going to start splitting seasons with GoT so one book could be split over 2 seasons.

I could be okay with that as long as the feel of it is right. It's more important to me that the essence of the books are right. And I think they can do this if they don't stick to one book = one season. They could split outlander in half. The first season could end right as Jamie and Claire set off for Lallybroch.

Lori (lorimcd) It must be as close to happening as possible, if DG is flooding FaceBook with links!

No wonder she's been so... forceful (*ahem*)... in casting notes about Jamie and what a 22 yr old looks like! And linking to all those viewer's YouTube videos.

So much buzz going around! Tough in so many ways - casting, story... let's just hope it's done right! But if DG has anything to say about it, I'm sure it will be. This is, after all, her baby.

Donna - Rosies.ReadingNook (dantaramian) I did see it .. I am scared that Hollywood will not do justice to the series. She also states on her website that she probably will have no say who will in the movie/mini series

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments It was the same way with Peeta, and I cant imagine anyone else in the role.

I think Game of Thrones was casted perfectly, so they should get those casting people, haha.

message 13: by Carol (new)

Carol | 29 comments Overall, Game of Thrones was cast very well, but I was extremely disappointed in their adaptation in season 2. I thought there was too much changed for no real reason, and some of those changes went completely against the characteristics that made the characters who they are.

I really hope that if they turn Outlander into a show they learn from that and perhaps do the lengthened seasons or not try to squeeze a whole book into one season if it will not fit.

I'm finally getting around to listening to the audiobooks after not reading the books in quite a long time, and I am definitely thinking as I listen of what a monumental task even a series will be for someone to please the audience.

Stacia (the 2010 club) (stacia_r) | 143 comments Great news! I was hoping for an epic show too...it gives more time to the details.

Gwennie (blessedwannab) | 3151 comments That definitely gives me such hope! Man, I really hope this is it.

message 16: by Regina (new)

Regina (reginar) OH! This would be so much better than a movie. :)

Leea | 1239 comments Oh, I hope it works out and I'm crossing my fingers :)

Dianne Kurucz (jadzea) | 14 comments I just started reading the books this year love them . As long as they stay close to the books it would be great game of thrones is good but I agree trueblood has gone out in left field which is to bad the books had a lot going for them and they should have stayed truer to them

message 19: by Jen (at last!) (last edited Jul 19, 2012 08:23AM) (new)

Jen (at last!) (jenkeith) | 1052 comments I think as long as the actors resemble Jamie and Claire closely enough, but carry the ESSENCE of the characters we'll all be satisfied. Because, let's face it...it will be impossible to make EVERYONE happy with how they look.

Personally, I don't want Claire to be an American actress. Please, please don't cast Jamie as brown eyed, short and American, either. lol You can always dye hair to be the right shade of red(look at the Weasley twins).

message 20: by Lynda (new)

Lynda | 67 comments I just hope that that Alan whatever that DG likes is not involved. I looked at his site that was listed on her website and I am sorry, but he is not good looking. Some shots are the opposite. Jamie doesn't have to be a "greek god, " but he does have to be good looking and with tons of charisma.

message 21: by Leea, Escape Artist (new)

Leea | 1239 comments I agree, Lynda. I just don't find him attractive at all and he does not feel like Jamie at all. Jamie commands a room.
