I loved the Percy Jackson series in fact it's what got me into Greek mythology, but did anyone feel that they wanted it a bit less G-rated? I mean I know the series is for a younger age but all ages would enjoy it. I just want it to be a BIT more mature.

I enjoyed them as they are. Nearly everyone in my large family read and enjoyed discussing them, which could not have happened if they weren't G-rated. There is little enough nowadays that an entire family can share. These book appeal to nearly all age groups (not the real little kids).

Well, later in the series the books become more serious about the war with Kronos.
I read them when I was writing my own YA greek mythology,"Descending Olympus," for comparison, and Riordan's books are very G-rated, but that is Riordan's purpose, to make them so. The audience was middle graders. I really enjoyed them, though. I feel he may be "growing up" his audience, however, with Heroes of Olympus. A little bit.
I think the book is great. I wouldn't have wanted my daughter to read it if it wasn't G-rated. I am enjoying the time we spend together discussing the book as she is reading it now and I read it when it was released.
I get what you mean, but writing in this style means that practically anyone can read it. Although I have said to myself many times that WHEN, not if, WHEN I finally meet Rick Riordan I'll request him to write a more adult series. I don't mean adult, young adult maybe. Having said all that, I read the PC Cast Goddess Summoning series, and that is by no means G Rated, so it doesn't matter that these books are, because there are plenty of the more adult books out there.
Considering this series is supposed to be for middle school and younger (I think), no, the rating is perfect for this book. In fact, I thought there was a bit too much violence for such a young audience.
i think it was supposed to be for younger kids.. i mean, im 15 and ...well i still love the series. the first few books were G rated and then slowly they started to "open up" a bit more. for example.. look at the lost hero... its MUCH different from the lightning thief
I love the fact that they're G-rated... and I'm nineteen. I adore Rick Riordan because he's not willing to stoop to writing in sex scenes/innuendo/anything suggestive/swearing. He's a fantastic man. :)
i still love the books and im 13:)but i have to say that i wish it was more than just g rated.like pg or pg13
I agree, but i think it's because i'm used to reading YA fiction. i expected a bit more...
well, I picked up the series a when I was in 6th grade, a few years ago. So, if it had been anymore mature than it is, I would have been to young to read it. I mean, now I'd be fine with it being a more mature book, but it was perfectly fine for when it was most popular. I think that if a book is well written, it shouldn't matter how old you are.
I personaly loved the books. However, mabey a bit more mature would be a good thing. Mabey that would excite a "older" group of people.
No thanks. I've already had to deal with sexual innuendo in what started out as a middle school series. My nine year old reads at an adult level when it comes to vocabulary, but neither of us appreciated "mature" subjects or violence with sexual overtones in another series we recently picked up. Frankly, my biggest problem with Riordan's books is the heavy-handed plotting. I do wish he'd give the kids credit for intelligence and not whack them over the head with plot developments.
