I havent read this book in a long time, but why cant anyone write??? (except Ky and Cassia).

They are not allowed to learn how to write by hand. They are only allowed to type on the tablets because whay they write there can be monitered. Also the paper falls apart and they dont have any writing utensils. For them it is illegal to write because what they write ciuld encourage people to rebel against the society.

Isn't there no paper because no one writes anything anymore?

No one was ever taught to write. Ky was raised diffrently and he taught Cassia.

They do have paper, but it degrades realyl fast. They mention paper towels, and print outs from their computers, and specifically say it doesn't last. I imagine something like receipt paper or fax paper that biodegreades.
And in fact they can "write" they just use computers for EVERYTHING so all they know how to do is type... what she means by not being able to "write" is long hand with a pen or pencil. Pens and Pencils simply do not exist anymore and EVERYTHING is typed out.

i think its kind of in the future and its a different society thats why they only use the technology

It's like that in Uglies too, they don't write. But at least there Shay had the option to take a handwriting class.

i wonder how Ky learned to write cursive?

The tablets, but how do they not know what it looks like anyways? Right?

I thought the point was that writing is dangerous and powerful.

A society that doesn't encourage creativity prevents people from expressing their feelings and therefore contains emotions and stops people questioning.

The 100 poems the society kept were ones which didn't challenge authority. Also children only paint as small children.

I can't imagine living without being able to be creative.

Because they were brought up to use tablets and computers. And you know what I'm confused too. Maybe something about no paper
