As a child, my family used to visit relatives in Michigan and we sometimes stopped in Canada on the way. My husband, kids, and I visted Montreal about 15 years ago, and I was amazed at how it's changed. Canada is a beautiful country.

I think so. :) It has such a diverse landscape. Some areas are a lot like areas in the States. But then, others are unique.

it is beautiful! I have 2 grandparents born there--one in New Brunswick and the other in Nova Scotia. I have visited BC and Saskatchuan (sp?). beautiful!
Great idea for a group, Melissa! Would have made a good thread for a broader CanLit group, so threads cold muliply and sustain members even after they finish tour. But seems a lot of such groups weren't sustained.I live in Maine in county abutting New Brunswick an love Canadian musicians, authors, and CBC. Was sort of already doing the reading tour already after doing a challenge race through all the U.S. states in Shelfari. Winner did it in 6 weeks. But this is no race, so motivation to do books that cover multiple provinces .
As it is no race, what does it matter if people start reads and posting reviews now? Waiting months not fun when it seems a lot of eagerness is there to share experiences.
Hi Michael, and welcome to the group. Thanks for thinking it's a great idea.
I haven't really thought about it much, but I suppose you could start it now and begin posting reviews. I wanted to build some excitement, though.

I'm bumping this because we have a couple new members I'd like to meet. Feel free to lurk, though. :)
Hi, I'm Margaret. This looked like an interesting group, as I'm always looking for new Canadian things to read. Fiction and historical fiction are my favorite genres although I enjoy biographies and first-person accounts of interesting lives. It's really helpful to get ideas from others. I'm an author myself, will have a new book out sometime this month, set in Manitoba!

Just added your reviews to my "follows" and it will be nice to hear some feedback from The Prairies :)
Hello, I'm Linda. I live in Ohio, but have always been drawn to fiction that takes place in a cold, snowy region. Then, I discovere Alice Munro and have searched out Canadian writers ever since. As it turns out, my daughter moved to the Lake Champlain area and is only 40 minutes away from Montreal! Yay for Canadian vacations.
Hello Linda. It's nice to have you here. What part of Ohio are you from? I visited there a couple years ago and went to Newark and Cleveland.

Hi, I'm Michele. I live in Alberta, and I love CanLit. I work in a library, so I have easy access. Our book club there read across Canada a couple years ago. When I get back to work I'll post the list, although some of the titles we read have already been mentioned.
Hi new people!Michele, it would be great to have some suggestions for CanLit reads.
Linda...I am in the Columbus area as well. Eh, that is where I live ... currently staying with my mom near Galion...
Margaret ... when is your book due out?

Hi all - looking forward to these cross-country reads. I'm an Alberta girl and have spent some time living in Ontario and visiting New Brunswick.
I think I said this before, but welcome Kelly. I'm sure Janice will be happy to have another person from Alberta here.

Hi Susan, My book, Wolf River,is due out the middle of February. It's set in Manitoba, so hopefully will find its way into some lists for this group!
Hi everyone! I joined this group yesterday and jumped in to some of the threads and added some book suggestions to the group bookshelf.I am an author and live in Edmonton, Alberta; my first book, about an Italian midwife, will be out in March with a publisher in Victoria, BC. I am having a giveaway for 10 advanced reading copies; if you'd like to enter, perhaps you'll win a copy and have Alberta covered!
Here's the link to enter to win: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/16...
I'm looking forward to getting to know you all!
Hello everyone! I'm Jessie, a teenage bookworm living in Ontario. I'm writing my own Ontario based novel that I hope to get published in a few years (I just have to work through my writers block first, haha)
Thank you, Melissa :)It's a horror novel about a bunch of people under the age of 18 that are suddenly coming down with an unknown mental illness that makes them become violent and eventually leading to death. The protagonist is a 16-year-old girl who is determined to find a cure before her little sister (one of the ill) dies.
Hi my name is Laurie. I grew up forty miles from the Quebec border in Vermont. I have lost count of how many times I have been to Quebec, since Montreal is the closest major city to me. It has been a great place for me to catch a concert or get away for a weekend. My favorite North American city is Quebec City. I am excited about joining this group and exploring Canada some more.
Welcome Laurie. I have been to Quebec City just once and fell in love with it. I'm glad you've joined us.
Hi, I'm Oscar and I stumbled upon this GR group when I was looking for books by authors from Québec. I'm Mexican, though at the minute I'm studying a master's in Europe. I just love Canada. I was an exchange student in Vancouver in 2009 and I backpacked in Québec city last summer for a week. Great memories.
Thank you, Susan and Melissa! So far, one Québec read I would definitely recommend is a graphic novel by a Canadian cartoonist from Montréal, called in its original French Paul à Québec and translated into English as The Song of Roland. It's won a number of awards, and I personally enjoyed it a lot. You can really taste Québec through the pages.
So glad I found this group! I'm an avid crime fiction reader, although I do occasionally read other types of novels. I've just finished reading 'Dead Cold' by Louise Penny, more commonly known as A Fatal Grace. It's time for me to explore more, as I've tended to stick to my favorite mystery writers over the years.I also have my own mystery series, set primarily in British Columbia, where I live. (I'll add my titles to the appropriate section.) I've just started writing the 4th novel in the series, which will be set primarily in the Yukon.

Hi, I'm Wayne. I'm from Minnesota by way of Newfoundland immigrants (mom and earlier generations). I've always been proud of my heritage but haven't done much purposeful Canadian reading, though I have read many Canadian authors. Though I'm joining the party a little late, I'm having lots of fun planning my trip through the provinces.
