It could be but looking at her books nothing jumps out at me. I am not familiar with her work though.
I don't think it was anything by Juliet Marillier. I think there may have been time travel involved. The guy who is captured is not a main character and I think he was somewhat ambiguous rather than being wholly evil or antagonistic.
The Last of the Fianna: An Irish Legend by Michael Scott
Gods and Fighting Men: The Story of the Tuatha De Danaan and the Fianna of Ireland by Augusta Gregory
Gods and Fighting Men: The Story of the Tuatha De Danaan and the Fianna of Ireland by Augusta Gregory
Highly unlikely, but could it be Too Long A Sacrifice? At the beginning of the book the main character's husband (or fiancé) is captured by the fey and kept in a place that's sort of under a lake (I think), then she follows him down. When they are eventually freed hundreds of years have passed. It's the Troubles in Ireland and they have to find each other through all the fighting.
The Last of the Fianna is a children's book. And I read the one by Lady Gregory...
Thanks for helping though!
Could it be one of Kenneth C. Flint Sidhe Legends series? He seem to incorporate Tir Na Nog and other Irish myths in this series.
I'll throw this one out there, though I doubt its what you're looking for, the Dark is Rising series by Susan Cooper? It takes place in Cornwall but I remember there being legendary warriors who may or may not have been ghosts. Good luck!
I don't know if it's relevant, but the Leanhaun Shee drains men of their essence/life force if they consent; perhaps that is one of the figures in the story?"The Chronicles of Fionn mac Cumhal" by Diana L. Paxson?
Brittany, The Dark is Rising series doesn't bear any resemblance to what Gloria describes here, beyond being based around Celtic mythology... so it can't be that, at least.
Taking up the search again, thought I'd restart my thread to see if anyone has any new ideas for me.
Gloria wrote: "Taking up the search again, thought I'd restart my thread to see if anyone has any new ideas for me."Did you take a look through the Celtic fantasy & scifi listopia? Even if your book is not on the list you might find some authors to investigate and see if their other books might match.

None of those look very familiar. :( I will try to look at some of the other books by those authors.
Gloria--bump your thread up every month or so and you will have better luck getting it found, since it will stay in people's minds.
Still no luck on my part. The more I think on it the more I think I have misremembered regarding the name containing the word Fianna. I am now sort of recalling something having to do with time travel.
For sure not Susan Cooper. By "stealing his seed" do you mean there was a sexual/erotic component to the book? You say that "The guy who is captured is not a main character" -- do you remember anything about the main character, or this man's relationship to the main character? You say it was a fantasy/romance -- can you remember any details that gave you that impression? Like, where did the romance come in, was it with the capture man or someone else?
There was an erotic component, i think, but the ephemeral beings that abducted the guy (maybe one of the main characters' father) were basically torturing the guy, at first he liked it but then it was unpleasant and violating. That is basically what I can remember, sometimes my brain latches on to the most unpleasant part of a book.
Tess wrote: "Could it be anything by Katharine Kerr? She writes a lot of Celtic fiction"Her Celtic-based fiction doesn't sound like this though!
Perhaps it's the Fionnovar Tapestry by Guy Gavriel Kay. It's a trilogy. It starts with The Summer Tree. The Summer Tree
Also a bit of a longshot but you might have a look at some of Cherryh's earlier fantasy works: Ealdwood orThe Dreamstone aka The Tree of Swords and Jewels (these three are all variations which contain some of the same original content, I remember one was a later rewrite). You might also have a look at Rusalka and its two sequels - these definitely not your book since they're Russian myth fantasy/horror but you might like them. Something else is niggling at my memory but I'll post again if I can fish it out.
I am looking for the same book. What I think I remember is that it was maybe a gaelic woman's name for the title and the male character you mention was a bard and her father didnt approve of him. Its been over 15 years since I read it....
Amanda, to avoid confusion, please create a new thread for your book. We can link this request to yours for easy cross-referencing.
Still looking for this book, I don't think its any of the above suggestions. I bought and read "Warriors Within" and it isn't that, either.
