M.B. Mulhall (mbm8377) | 4 comments I was added a while ago but have been super busy (and away for a short vacation) so I figured I ought to speak up and introduce myself too! hahah

I'm an author,a budding photographer and an educator looking for a job. When I'm not pecking away at my keyboard or looking at the world up close through my lens, I've got my nose stuck in a book. Jersey girl, born and bred, I spend much of my time scouring the boardwalks for images to capture and conversations to overhear.

I write young adult novels in genres ranging from contemporary to paranormal to soft sci-fi to fantasy. I have self published one novel
Near Death

and will be publishing my second, a romantic comedy, sometime this month
Tears of a Clown

Thanks for inviting me to be a part of this group!

Joanna Gawn (lazuliportals) Hi all, I'm a newbie to this Group.

I'm an English author writing (with my best friend) as The Lazuli Portals. Our first novel, The Cordello Quest, was published in January, and we're now working on the sequel, Mosaic of Light. We have a poll running until 5 August, allowing readers to choose one of our new characters' names. The winner will be acknowledged in Mosaic of Light. Entry is open to everyone. :-)

We also write short stories and flash fiction, and maintain a blog and newsletter (more on our website.)

We love hearing from readers and other authors, so please do stop by if you have a moment. :-)

Also, if you'd like to be friends, please just drop me a request as I'll be happy to add you.

--Joanna

Karen Docter | 5 comments Just joined! This sounds like a great group to talk about books.

I am both a reader and a writer. I read just about anything across the romance boards. I love romantic suspense, paranormal, historicals, contemporary, and Regencies. I tend to change up my genres with each book I read, so I might read RS one time, a vampire book the next, a warrior the next. Sadly, I don't get to read as much as I used to. Used to read a book a day, now it's more like one a week.

I'm also an author with a split personality. :) I write romantic suspense (Women hunted by killers...men who'd die to protect them) and contemporary (The lighter side of romance – Not a killer in sight…unless it’s killer heat!) novels. My debut romantic comedy, SATIN PLEASURES http://www.amazon.com/Satin-Pleasures..., released on Valentine's Day. I have a romantic comedy novelette, CATCH THAT SANTA!, coming out on Thanksgiving Day. I'm also working on the first of my romantic suspense Thorne's Thorns series, KILLING SECRETS.

I also have a blog at www.karendocter.com/blog where I highlight at least one author and his/her books every week. Busy writer and busy reader. Can't wait to meet you all!

Deb Hockenberry (kidztales) | 12 comments Hi! I'm Deb Hockenberry. I just signed the contract, with 4RV Publishing, for my first picture book Where Can We Have The Party? The tentative publishing date for my book is spring 2014.

I do have a question for everyone. When should I set up a Facebook author page? Should I do it now or should I wait until the book is published? I haven't even started going through the editing or illustrating process yet! Any advice on marketing and promoting is welcome!

message 34: by Rayne (new)

Rayne Golay (RayneGolay) | 75 comments Hi Deb, as one who's been totally confused about book marketing, particularly an e-book as THE WOODEN CHAIR will be, I asked the person doing marketing at my publishers. He gave me some very good advise. Get a web site, Facebook and, he said, Goodreads is a must. The sooner you do it and the more active you are, the more presence and name recognition you achieve. I wouldn't wait, but do it now. I'm sure others will have more ideas.
Best of luck.
Rayne

message 35: by Deb (new)

Deb Hockenberry (kidztales) | 12 comments Thanks, Rayne. My PB is going to come out in print and possiby ebook. I do have a website and blog. As you can see I'm here too. I haven't set my author's page up on FB yet since the book isn't published yet. I was wondering about joining LibraryThing and those other sites too. Do you think that'll help?

message 36: by Rayne (new)

Rayne Golay (RayneGolay) | 75 comments Hi Deb,

Suggest you get an Author page, I think that's what it's called, on Goodreads. I don't have an author page on FB and don't intend to get one. On Goodreads, join several groups and be active. I like Linkedin where I'm connected to readers and writers. Am not familiar with LibraryThings.
Blogging is important. You could start a blog site, stream it to Facebook, post it on Goodeads. Also follow a few writers in the same genre as you are, just as long as they're not too big to tie their own shoe laces :)
Rayne

message 37: by Deb (new)

Deb Hockenberry (kidztales) | 12 comments Hi Rayne,
Sorry that I didn't get back to you last night but I had to attend a teleconference. Anyway, you have some good suggestions! Does Goodreads have authorpages? Do you mean to create my authorpage on Goodreads now instead of when the book is published? I do have a blog and intend to utilize it. I have a website too and intend to put that to good use as well. I'm also being advised to join Reditt and Redroom to publicize this.
Deb :-)

message 38: by Rayne (new)

Rayne Golay (RayneGolay) | 75 comments Good Morning Deb, Goodreads has an Author Dashboard. Am not sure you have to have a book out in order to build it. There is a help function which was useful when I went through this.
It's never too early in my opinion. It takes time to build name recognition and followers.
Best.
Rayne

message 39: by Deb (new)

Deb Hockenberry (kidztales) | 12 comments How do you get to the author's dashboard? I'll have to look around some more!

message 40: by Rayne (new)

Rayne Golay (RayneGolay) | 75 comments Hi Deb, this may have been answered already. I seem to remember that you have to download one of several of your books to Goodreads to establish a Dashboard. I kept struggling with this until I used the Help function and was told to upload first.
Hope this clarifies it. Seems you have to wait till your book is out.
Best

message 43: by Rayne (new)

Rayne Golay (RayneGolay) | 75 comments Deb, if you have a published book, you upload it. That starts your author dashboard. Without something published to show, you can't have a dashboard. I spent hours trying to figure it out until a kind soul helped me understand.

Jill Sanders (jillmsanders) | 46 comments Hi everyone,

I'm an indie author of contemporary romance books. My third book in my Pride Series will be released in July 2013.

My books according to some readers:
Finding Pride (book one): Beautifully flawed characters, that I couldn't help but root for.
I MUST read the other books in the Pride series.
YOU GRABBED ME & PULLED ME IN!!!!

Discovering Pride (book two): Truly loving this series!
Soft, sexy romance without being overdone. Great relaxing read, except when she has you on the edge of your chair.
I enjoyed the soft, sexy story line with a great twist at the end! This book is worth reading-maybe even twice!

Returning Pride (book three) early readers:
Iian is my favorite of all the characters in this series. I am so happy to finally get his story!! I will edit my review when the book releases, so I don't spoil anything. Just be ready for Iian!!

Also, check out my blog where I promote/interview/review other indie authors.

Philip Dodd (philipdodd) | 3 comments Hello, everyone. My name is Philip Dodd. I am sixty one, live in Liverpool, England, have a degree in English literature from Newcastle University, and I have been writing songs, stories and poems since I was twelve. My first book, Angel War, was published on Tuesday, 23rd, April, 2013 by Fast Print Publishing. As it took me twenty six years to write, I felt I owed it to my story to get it published. It may interest those readers who like reading Bible based fiction, Christian fiction, angel fiction and fantasy fiction. I am very pleased to be a Goodreads Author with my own page for my book. It can also be found on the Fast Print Publishing online bookshop at www.fast-print.net and on Amazon and on the New Book Journal website at
http://newbookjournal.com/2013/05/ang.... Next year I hope to publish my light hearted science fiction story for older children and adults, called Klubbe The Turkle and the Golden Star Coracle.
