Laura Your point...

Eh, life brings what it will. Thanks for your response, Ellie. I will endeavor to finish the last book. Life is good these days and I have unfinished business with FSoG lol...I see how much you all like this thing, with the exception of Jenna :), and I'm stuck right now not knowing what I want to read so I'm trying to tie up loose ends. I can't finish GI, though. Sorry, haha, but that was sooooo much worse. You may see me pop in here from time to time when Fifty gets me heated, but I mean no harm by it. I just get so exasperated by this thing! :)

No problem, Laura. I'm glad you can vent here with us. I believe we women can be there for each other...for moral support when one needs it. We might not know one another personally, but we can still be someone to share our feelings and be compassionate to those who might be in need of it. :)

Kristin (KC) Laura, I totally see where you're coming from and why these books would trigger bad feelings for you. There are certain books I stay entirely away from for those reasons. Come here to vent anytime :)

Ellie: Glad you enjoyed the Gabriel books. There will be a third!

Jenna: Lol I've missed you, girly!

message 1854: by Laura (new) - rated it 1 star

Laura Thx Ellie & Kris: y'all seem to have a good thing going on in here and I like that. Smh about the third Gabriel book though lol Oh well, can't have everything! ;)

Best!

I am so looking forward to a 3rd Gabriel's Inferno/Rapture. I loved the story.

Laura So, you all like the Gabriel series. I thought it was horrendous ;) What about it did you like? I just want fresh perspectives and try to see what you all see in it...

Kristin (KC) Karen, YES, SR himself posted this info! He had been saying it was a thought for a while bc so many fans were requesting a third, and now he is in the process of writing!! :D

Laura, I love the poetic feel of these books. They sort of have a modern day Shakespeare feel, especially the second book. They are romantic and I love the role redemption plays for the characters. This series has everything I love in romantic fiction; a brooding, protective yet kind hero, a sweet and strong heroine, sexual tension, some angst, a rival love interest, and gorgeous, passionate writing!

message 1860: by Jenna (new) - rated it 1 star

Jenna do i need to invest time in these books as well?
these gabriel books of which u speak

Kristin (KC) I totally think you should, Jenna!! lol.

I'm trying to think if you'd like these...I think there's a good chance! The plot has a lot of substance, much more than FSoG, in my opinion.

message 1862: by Laura (new) - rated it 1 star

Laura Jenna, if I can figure out how to send you my copy of GI, you don't have to buy it. I can deal with the FSoG on a level, but I've seen what you think about the series and to me Gabriel was so much harder for me to read. I personally thought the writing style was atrocious, gawd-awful, but it did have me laughing out loud in parts (only cause I couldn't take it seriously).

Kris, I never did get to the second book in the Gabriel series, but I get what you mean when you get wrapped up in something like that. I have a few authors I've read that you just hang on every word. Meredith Duran (his romance) is one I ran across last year (?) that I just love. Some people complain she doesn't move fast enough, but I just love the way the books feel and for a lot of the same reasons you mention. Ay, maybe one of these days (3 pages at a time) I will get through that one. There was just some stuff in there that I found sublimely ludicrous >_< haha

message 1863: by Jenna (new) - rated it 1 star

Jenna well i have a few website ill check out and see if i can find a copy for free. and even tho i dont like these books(FSoG) these ladies on here havnt let me down with their recomendations so if they say its good i may have to try

Kristin (KC) Laura, to each his own, that's what makes life interesting ;)

I feel you because, although I do enjoy Kristen Ashley books, I can't (for the life of me) get passed the agonizingly intricate attention to detail in her writing. I really do try, but I can't become a die-hard fan like so many have. She has addicts and support groups...I kind of feel like I'm cursing when I say I'm not a KA fan out loud!!!

Kristin (KC) Yep, Laura, she's the one! Definitely give her books a try, they are so amazingly well received. One great thing about her writing is that she creates such down-to-earth, relatable characters that you feel like you personally know by the end of the book. Her heros are 100% alpha and her sex scenes are some of the steamiest!

I felt the same way about Reynard's writing. It's beautifully done.

Kristin (KC) Jenna wrote: "just found gabriels inferno :)"

I can't speak for others... I loved the story... I loved Dante's Inferno and loved to see it linked to a contemporary romance. I loved the characters... Gabriel was such a intense character... and the story had many parallels to the original piece. It is not for everyone... but it appealed to me!

This is how I feel about Karen Ranney and Madeline Hunter. The writing feels like poetry to me. There is a loveliness to it that pulls me in.

message 1883: by Tiffany (new) - rated it 3 stars

Tiffany Day read the whole trilogy and I did enjoy it mainly for the increase in my own love life it caused. but after I put the book down and thought back on everything I realized (just the same way I did with Twilight) that Anna is stupid, and a poor icon to look up to( same as I feel on Bella) I do want to know why is there so many books out that are popular that have poor female lead roles.? a woman in a submisive possision emotionaly romaticly and physicly. It is rather sad. Oh well I did have some major good sexy time durning the time I read these.

Ellen Totten It's amazing how two stories control our thought process...FSOG trilogy and Gabriel's Inferno/Rapture. I never really got into Bared to You although it was quite popular. I think Day's crude terminology of body parts got to me. There is a more gentle way to define. It was like splashing cold water in my face. I'm really not a prude and never objected to the frequently used 'F' word. But, that's me. :)

That kind of stuff can ruin a book for me. There are some ways to describe anatomy and ways not to describe it. I don't mind the swear words so long as they are appropriately in context, but some of the words I've read to describe...ehem...ourselves, or male parts just leaves me going huh????? I should start keeping a list...

I used to feel the same way... but you have to put the words in the mouths of the characters... not yours. It is part of their personality.. and should be given the levity it deserves. All people are different, and are used to different ways of expressing themselves. Remember, in these stories... we are invited into the private lives of others.. therefore you have to accept them for who they are.

I fully understand your point, however, it does not endear me to the protagonist. If anything, I lose compassion for whatever she's going through. Eva was supposed to be an intellegent business woman, not someone from the seedy-side-of-life that was into drugs and hung out in gangs that had rap-sheets as long as their arms. If Eva's persona represented this type of person, the linqo would work. It doesn't shock me as much if a man uses 'gutter-type-lingo', but for a woman, it does. I look forward to how you all feel.

Laura Karen wrote: "I used to feel the same way... but you have to put the words in the mouths of the characters... not yours."

I'll try to remember that next time I read the word sword lol :P bleh! And I agree with you, Ellie. Sometimes I feel like the authors are tired of writing the same words over and over again (not that I blame them!) and they're trying out something new. My feeling is that when I notice it, it's not working ;)

I DID start a list! I was driving home one day and the song about big butts came on and I started thinking about how many words there are to describe the butt. My grown kids helped me compile a "butt list" when I got home. ;0)

Like she hasn't gotten like super descriptive with the sexy scenes but that hasn't stopped them from being really steamy. I found myself flat out grinning to myself at work lol no good =)
