Duchess Nicole His codex Alera series is one of my new faves. Book one Furies of Calderon (Codex Alera, #1) by Jim Butcher has a bit of the first books world building blahs, but is still very good. The rest of the series was flat out amazing.

Kristin (KC) I understand that "text-speak" may be difficult for some to understand, but I actually just looked through this thread, and the only thing Jenna seems to do is write "u" rather than "you".... I didn't see much else that resembles anything confusing, so I guess I just don't understand why it was even brought up.

I happen to suffer from dyslexia, as well- words and letters flip constantly, but the letter "u" replacing "you" never seems to trip me up, really. I'm sure it's different for everyone, but I've never had difficulty understanding anything Jenna wrote.

Jenna, we'll chat over books! I still want to see if you end up liking Bared to You! :)

Duchess Nicole It was a simple request by someone who joined for Jenna not to use text speak as it is difficult to follow. It's not that she uses 'u' instead of you. She uses no punctuation, no capitalization, and substitutes u and r frequently. Are you all really going to sit there and say that no one should be allowed to say anthing about it? This is, after all, a book reading site that we are on. I'ts not like we're on facebook here. Many groups on Good Reads request that members use proper grammar and punctuation, so I really don't think that is an odd thing to ask for. Nor is it difficult to comply. I know Jenna seemed to be offended by me from my first post, no matter what I said. I think she was being sensitive. I think the request was made as politely as possible, and I don't think that it was in error at all. No one is trying to run Jenna off.

Duchess Nicole Are you for real, Kris? Christine was saying that she originally didn't want to say ANYTHING because she's embarassed about her dyslexia and didn't want to advertise. Then you get on here and basically poo poo her and tell say that it really doesn't affect you all that much when someone substitutes u for you. It's much more than that, as I said before. Why do you take such offense to it? And the thinly veiled condescension is ridiculous. I wasn't trying to be rude, only to point out that whatever you looked up wasn't what she was talking about. Jenna left the group because someone had trouble with her slang text, REALLY? Don't you think you guys are being super sensitive right now? I realize that you and Jenna and a few others on this thread are friends, but that doesn't mean you should exclude others or make them feel unwelcome. Create your own friendly thread if that's what you want.

And thank you for the emphasis on my title.

Kristin (KC) Ok, definitely not trying to have a virtual argument here. Like I said, I'm dyslexic, as well. I just wanted Jenna to know that I understood her. She obviously felt bad and I was being considerate. It wasn't an attack on dyslexics.

I think that was very rude of you to specifically point out each and every flaw in her writing. What does the fact that I've been friendly with Jenna have to do with it? I've been friendly to all who are so in return. You are coming to the defense of someone whom I don't even believe I've offended.

Thank you for suggesting I start a friendly thread instead of what this has obviously become. I'm sorry, but I don't like to see someone being singled out because of their writing in a GR discussion. I thought this was about books. If someone was uneducated and unable to properly use the English language, would they also be ridiculed or asked to speak better? Its ridiculous. And I'm referring to what you've said. I don't think Christine took it to a rude level. But you have. I will go and find that "friendly" thread now.

Well, I've never seen it asked on GR for members to use proper English, and not slang. But I have seen it mentioned to be considerate and respect the opinions of others. In fact, I believe it pretty mandatory...So, proceed, Jenna. You're writing is fine with me.

Jenna lol its okay its been pointed out i dont use correct spelling and punctuations are not exsistent in my writting but then again im not an Author so my writting doesnt have to be perfect

Kristin (KC) Lor wrote: "ohhh!! hm well is there bdsm involved?"

It is has many explicit love scenes, but BDSM is not involved. However, if I recall properly, BDSM is referred to by Gideon at some point in the book, (I believe towards the end), and I have a feeling it is explored in book two.

I haven't read sequel yet. Not sure if I will because I didn't particularly care for BtY...but many have. I would definitely recommend it because it has a lot of similar characteristics of FSoG. I just couldn't connect with the characters, for some reason.

Kristin (KC) Jenna wrote: "some girl in the book club im in recommended Easy it looks pretty good, has anyone else read it"

I've read Easy, and absolutely loved it! I think it's a YA romance. Fade-to-blackish love scenes. Really great plot with an awesome twist. I would highly recommend it if you like the romance genre.

In Private Arrangements - the heroine does something awful to the hero but redeems herself. Another one is Moonstruck Madness - she's a highwayman.

I have read Private Arrangements and Moonstruck Madness . They just did not come to mind. I guess I was looking for someone a little more disgusting. I did think of Elphaba in Wicked, but she was just kind of misunderstood. I may have to re-read Private Arrangements.

This post is what started the ball rolling on me being called a bitch, a bully, my screen name getting made fun of (really?) and you two going on...and on...and on...about how not accepting I am of people's different opinions? You're not even making sense any more. I never named called or put anyone down, in any way. That would all be you. The worst thing I said is that Jenna is being too sensitive, and that she doesn't use ANY punctuation or capitalization. I did not break down her posts and analyze her words. I started out defending Christine. It's now devolved into a ridiculous finger pointing that is so far from a mature conversation that it's laughable. I didn't even post for nearly twenty posts and you two were just feeding off of each other. I never said I expected perfection in posts. The occasional slip up is very different than intentionally writing like your texting. You could at least TRY to write correctly. If you don't want to, so be it. Leaving the conversation in a huff was childish, but you seem to take offense to anything anyone says that remotely opposes you.

Calling me a bitch is way over the top and completely uncalled for. It was a request from a dyslexic that you write so that she could understand. But, as you put it, you're just going to be hypocritical and disregard what others say. Your words. And then you resort to name calling and putting me down? THIS is who you are?

You guys need to remember that there is an actual person on the other end of the computer.

You're making it so much more than I ever meant for it to be, and you know it. I've been a GR member for almost four years now and have never come across two more confrontational members. I've always been able to have lighthearted discussions even if my opinion is different. I promise, I'll bow out now. You have made it abundantly clear that our personalities do not mesh.

A spoiler? Listen, I'm usually not confrontational at all. But I do hate when someone hurts another for no reason. That's how Jenna writes, and at first, I was honestly just giving my opinion. But then you pointed out all her writing flaws and I was so appalled by that. I really didnt think it was necessary, and it was probably embarrassing for her. I thought we talk about books here. If someone doesn't understand another's writing, just move on. To ask them to write better is sort of harsh, no?

Anyway, don't bow out. I'm finished talking about FSoG, anyway. You've just joined in this discussion, so you'll have more to gain.

Let's just call a truce, and agree to disagree. But don't feel the need to leave the thread if you dont want to over this nonsense.

Jenna and u also need to take ur own advice (about someone being at the other end of the computer) when u were pointing out my flaws when writting u arent innocent in all this either so stop playing the victom I was tryin to be the bigger person and leave earlier so i wasnt rude if that makes me immature and childish okay? but just know i didnt say anything mean until i came back and u had aleady nit picked the things i said and were being rude to begin with and u also kept talking about it once i was already gone

Jenna AND thats not true that when someone oppose me i get offensive....ive actually been pretty nice about ppl that have different opinons then i do other then u and alot of these woman have opened up my eyes to certain things so thats not true either i felt like i have been for the MOST part pretty respectful to other and their outlook i may not agree but i listen up until out of no where i started getting picked on for my writing. And the fact that i was getting picked on doesnt bother me in the slightest its the way u kept going on and on about it being rude and now u are acting as if u were the victom of something u made get out of hand

Kris - I think we both agree that this 'discussion' has been turned into word vomit at this point. I took out my earlier spoiler since you obviously had issues with it. I'm also done talking about Fifty. It hasn't really been that conversation for awhile anyways. I know I've seen you around GR as we have quite a few of the same friends. I hope we can be civil in the future. I'm bowing out to just stop the ugliness from escalating on my end. Life's too short. Happy reading to you all!

How about Scarlett O'Harra Mary? She is a female character who does some pretty reprehensible things. Perhaps she finds a little redemption when she realises she loves Melanie and Rhett after it is too late, in both cases.

I loved Wicked, I also loved Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister. I have Son of a Witch, a Lion Among Men, and some of his other books Mirror Mirror, Lost and What the Dickens all sitting in Hardback on my book shelf - I will get to them soon, I promise. My brother has read most Maguire books and and he liked all of them, except he said Lost was pretty average. You probably already know this but there was a new Oz book that was just released this year Out of Oz
