Ellen Totten Just learned they are thinking of making three movies of Fifty Shades of Grey. Apparently it's in the developing stages at this moment. Can you imagine three movies?? They'll have to make it R rated...X won't fly.

Kristin (KC) The movie will definitely have to be more centered on the plot than the sex. Although nowadays, they pretty much show everything in movies anyway! But I'm not sure about the BDSM elements...

Hannah Robin if you could write your sex adventures into a trilogy I might be tempted to read them instead !!!!!!

i was talkin to someone on e thread they could flim it like trueblood does....hell i was watchin a move this morning with my bf it was American Reuninon (stupid movie BTW) but it showed the guys full dick so i dont think they will have a problem filming the sex scenes maybe down play it a little

message 756: by Ellen (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ellen Totten That's amazing! Usually you get a backside look with men. With women, well the've been doing it for years. Look at Basic Instinct. It'll have to be R rated though. When it comes to the red room, they'll bring it to a point, then they'll fade out leaving you with your own image of what happens next.

That's exactly what I'm talking about! Didn't they do that in one of the Sex and the City movies? Totally caught me off guard. I'm just not sure how well a public display of the BDSM lifestyle (even though it's on the lighter side) would go over. I curious as to how far they're going to take it...

Amanda Turner I read all 3 books but what I couldn't understand is why everyone wanted a 'Mr. Grey'. If our daughters came home with someone that messed up and controlling I know I wouldn't be the only one kicking his sorry butt straight out the door.

Kristin (KC) I loved the story (as i've said) but if I went out with a guy who brought me to his house and opened up a door revealing a "red room of pain" I'd hit the ground running! I would also not tolerate someone stalking me and telling what to wear, where I can go, whipping out a contract, etc...I found the story fun and sexy but I can definitely seperate it from real life.

There are certain aspects to Christian I would love in a real man...but not most! Good for fiction, tho!

Mary Kris wrote: "I loved the story (as i've said) but if I went out with a guy who brought me to his house and opened up a door revealing a "red room of pain" I'd hit the ground running! "

Oh I might have gone into the room for a couple of seconds, just so I could use the whip. ;0)

message 765: by Ellen (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ellen Totten I feel the same way, Kris, about taking off post haste after getting a glimpse of the red room. However, imagine a naieve 21 year-old virgin who is curious and finds the guy as sexy as hell. Her hormones are in high gear and she's spellbound by this gorgeous hunk of man with penetrating grey eyes. It can happen, Kris.I fell in love with his good side. But that's me.

message 766: by Jenna (new) - rated it 1 star

Jenna thats exactly what bothers me she was a virgin and girls lets face it we do stupid things for a pretty face and the fact he disregarded her virgnity like it was nothing kinda upset me he was like well lets get this over with so u have the experience and i can make u my sex slave lol and she was so naieve like u said she didnt have a clue about what she was gettin herself into and she wanted to be hypocrit over mrs robinson doin that to christin introducing him to that life style ughhh she let him do it to her granted she wasnt a young teen but she still had the experiecne of a young teen lol sorry i rambled

I think these things are kind of the point. Christian was a jerk when she met him. She was a silly, ignorant girl. They both grew up a little during the course of the book.

Kristin (KC) It can totally happen, Ellie, definitely not denying that. I'm just saying that I, personally, would be scared away completely by a room/lifestyle like that. But, obviously, these relationships exist, and I'm not judging them. It's just not my thanggg! Lol ;)

I guess I'll just live vicariously through these books...and quite possibly, Mary, if you decide to stick around and use the whip! ;)

I doubt that the movie will fade and leave it up to the viewers imagination - I predict that it will have a lot of gratuitous sex scenes - after all the sex scenes make up about half of the book. I think the producers will try to get away with as much as they can, and attempt to get it under that x rating. But it wouldn't be shocking for the movie to be x rated - we all know the content of the book.

RIGHT there she believes FSoG brought new ppl to reading...i agree 100 Percent...Ive been reading all my life and i got made fun of...My sister in law (who was one that made fun) started reading this beause she jumped on the band wagon tried gettin me to read it i did (book club voted it in) i hated it she still loved it BUT she is now getting into reading so im introducing her to different authors and books. I have noticed same thing applies with others. Ive seen several ppl start reading because of this book... Now even tho i hate these books Im glad it has gotten New people into reading. People really dont know what they are missing out on

Yes but if these movies are expected to hit regular movie theaters, I don't see an "X" rated one making its way in. I think the sex scenes will most definitely be there, just toned down a few notches. But you never know...

message 779: by Jenna (new) - rated it 1 star

Jenna and reading really is a dying hobby.....more and more ppl find it easier to play games as a hobby or are to busy with there day to day life...so even if (my opinon) this crappy book can draw new ppl into readin it then i say GOOD JOB

message 780: by Rebecca (new) - rated it 1 star

Rebecca Johns ....Given it's popularity they would probably get away with it being xrated and it will still be a blockbuster.

message 781: by Rebecca (new) - rated it 1 star

Rebecca Johns Is there anyone on this thread who loved the books that would not see it if it had an X rating? Just curious.

message 782: by Jenna (new) - rated it 1 star

Mary B3cs wrote: "Is there anyone on this thread who loved the books that would not see it if it had an X rating? Just curious."

I am not sure I would go watch the movie regardless. I would have see the reviews first. With a good screenwriter, the deficiencies in the book might be addressed and the movie(s) could end up better than the books. When was the last time anyone heard of an X rated movie making it into the movie theaters? I don't recall one in recent memory unless we categorize NC-17 as the new X.

Justine Saulnier ive read many books and I CAN tell the difference between good books and bad books i have never read a book i didnt like and i would really appreciate it if people would stop calling the people who do like 50 shades of grey delusional or dont know the difference between good or bad book. its rude and its starting to make me mad so please for the love of god stop doing it okay its your opinion if you dont like the books and its my opinion if i like the books

message 790: by Jenna (new) - rated it 1 star

Jenna who said delusional?

message 791: by Ellen (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ellen Totten Maybe I'm wrong, but I don't see Mr. G as a demented crazed woman beater. Mr.G was an abused child who suffered under a drug enduced mother and her pimp then became a victim of Mrs. Robinson. This created his dark side. Lucky for him he was adopted by two normal and loving people who tried to help him through therapy. You forget, he didn't speak until he was 4 years old. Can you imagine an innocent child going through this trauma? I cried reading what he went through. This story is more than just sex. It took the love of an innocent woman for him to know the difference. I thought it was a very compelling story of redemption through understanding and love. There are lots of children who are sexually abused. It's in the paper every day. Am I looking through rose-colored glasses? Do we cast these children aside or do we try to guide them into the light as Ana did?

message 792: by Hannah (new) - rated it 1 star

Hannah Justine we all have different tastes in books .. I have books I love which I think are good .. And books I enjoy which I think are rubbish but I don't care ... Eg i still love the point horror books ... ( I know , I know ) ...

Plus there are many works of great literature which I think are just not me ..

Personally I think these books are tosh but the world would be strange if we all liked the same thing .

( the same does not go for da vinci code ... That is just awful !!!!! Lol )

Kristin (KC) I haven't read anyone calling a reader delusional, at least not on this thread. There was a recent, inappropriate post from someone who hasn't returned. But everyone has been pretty respectful here. (Unless you're going pages back bc I haven't look at earlier comments.)

Don't worry about what people say, Justine. Everyone has an opinion and not all of them are nice.

I plan on seeing the movie, and I wonder if it will be better than the books. I'm very curious as to how it will make the transition over to the big screen.

i agree its to highly anticipated to be xrated...xrated movies dont come out in theaters...and the reason it got a movie deal is because the books were to popular how can they make a box office hit if it doesnt come out in theaters so i think it will def be rated R they will just downplay some of the more vulgar things

message 796: by Ellen (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ellen Totten Tina, I don't believe you can say people who love this book never read books. It's a shot below the belt. I've been reading books for 65 years and enjoy most literature...some more than others.I've published books, mainly mystery because it's my favorite. I belong to a couple writers associations and several reading groups. Many in our groups are professionals in this field and never has anyone criticized someone for what they read or in the process of publishing.

message 797: by Kristin (KC) (last edited Aug 13, 2012 04:02PM) (new) - rated it 4 stars

Kristin (KC) I agree, Ellie. He did get either verbal or written consent for the actions that would be considered by many as abusive. I wouldnt label him as a woman-beater at all. But I will say he had an extreme need for control, a direct result from his horrendous childhood.

I liked the fact that he was broken and needed redemption. There was a message. He did fall in love, finally, and he seemed to work towards bettering himself. I don't think he was terribly offensive, considering what else is out there. Its just a story about someone with a twisted dark side who needed love.
