It depends on the characters and the story line in my opinion. I mean if there's a bad boy involved who's been intamate with females before yea you can expect some intamate kissing. So it really depends on the characters. It really kills it when a sweet innocent character is in an unnecessary intamate scene.

Cassandra Giovanni | 90 comments I think that it depends on the target age range, but I also feel there is a classy way to go about it. It's a fine line and as an author it also depends on what you're comfortable with. Also as Valencia said, it's very important to keep in mind the characters and the situations they are put in.

Danielle (meimei42) I like a good kiss scene. But I'm an adult and so I agree, it depends on the target age group. Are you looking for 12 year olds? 16 year olds? College age?

I also agree that there is a tactful way to do it.

To be fair to any racy kissing in a book--kids these days probably see far worse on television. Look at Gossip Girl. That is a young adult series and it is all SEX SEX SEX.

A lot of readers will be reaching ages where they are going to start experiencing some of the things the characters in these books experience and it gives them a chance to relate.

Hit the nail right on the head in my opinion.

I agree Cassandra and Danielle. I mean it's not like kids don't know what kissing is. You can watch Disney channel, Cartoon Network, and Nickelodeon and see some kissing scenes that'll put the best of them to shame. There's nothing wrong with a kiss scence between characters who have romantic chemistry, but at the same time don't throw in some groping 'OMG we're about to have sex' crap when it's not necessary.

Danielle (meimei42) I agree about not wanting to rush if. If for no other reason than you are not giving your readers a build up. If in chapter 3 your characters are dating and in love, where do you have to go from there? There has to be a build up.
