LW: What Do the Characters Look Like to You?

Well I don't have any particular Person in my mind for the characters, but I saw Miller like the typical Noir Detective in my Mind. Trenchcoat and Fedora.
I don't remember just how tall Miller is supposed to be, but once I got a general image of the Belters in my head I was thinking of most of the males as pushing 7 feet, quite thin and with oversized heads. With those overt physical characteristics in mind, it was hard to picture him as anyone in particular ... and a trencher on a 7' stick figure just gets me smiling.
I agree with Thomas, Miller is very much a classic noir detective. I picture Holden a little bit like Jet Black from Cowboy Beebop, but less anime-ish.
I find myself picturing Holden as the stock male Shepard from Mass Effect. Not really my intention, it just happens on its own. I have a lot of trouble consistently picturing the Belters as being significantly taller than the non-Belters. It's only when there's specific mention of their height in relation to their environment or other characters that I'm reminded of how tall they are and those specific indicators just don't get mentioned that often.
If any of you have a tumblr account (I don't), you can suggest the characters to The Composites: http://thecomposites.tumblr.com/
Fred Johnson is John Druitt from Sanctuary (the tall bald guy). If the authors claim Fred has hair, they are mistaken. :)
Its actually tough to figure out.On the one hand their tall and slender and live in low gravity.
On the other their moving heavy gear around and tough.
Those low G's would also give people an unusual walk.
They certainly would look like the people you see in Walmart.
Bernardo wrote: "If I could make this as a movie, I would cast Bruce Willis as Miller and Liam Neeson as Holden"I can see Bruce Willis as Miller - he has the range to play action hero or burned out drunk.
My mental image of Holden, though, is younger and ...softer than Liam Neeson.
I have imagined Naomi looking like Zoe Saldana ethnic wise from Holden's description of her. And actually Im on bored with the Bruce Willis...I would add some graying hair though, my Miller isn't bald. He has nice salt and pepper hair under that pork pie.
As for Holden I pictured Karl Urban. Attractive with some what of an intimidation factor.
And I imagine Julie looking a bit like Kristin Kreuk.
I hadn't imagined real people in the roles until the scene when Holden got his gun caught on his underwear during the fire fight. For some reason my mind's eye immediately imagined a young Harrison Ford making an exasperated smirk and then ripping his drawers to join the action. I haven't been able to get that out of my head so Holden became Ford mid book.
Zoe Saldana as Naomi. Grace Park as Julie. I like the suggestion of Nathan Fillion as Holden. Get Wil Wheaton to get a bit leaner but keep the snarky attitude and he could be miller. Either that or Tom Merrit with a hangover.
Those cast choice videos on youtube are pretty cool. There's a lot for laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Bake: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WOfMPC...
William wrote: "I thought Morgan Freeman as Miller."This is more what I pictured, but a bit less grandfatherly. Like a cool old time jazz guy.
Also, I don't think Holden is suppose to have as much character in his looks as Nathan Fillion does. He is suppose to be pretty - too pretty for his environment and kind of naive. When I was reading I pictured him more like Chris Evans but a bit older. Very all American looking.
Nathan Fillion got stuck in my head as holder with the firefly connection. anyone else wouldn't fit now :P

Either tha..."Actually I'm going to reverse myself on Nathan Fillion. I think that Tahmoh Penikett would make a much better Holden. Always holding the righteous line of thought.
Guess I'm the only one thinking Gary Oldman as Miller, eh?
Thomas wrote: "Well I don't have any particular Person in my mind for the characters, but I saw Miller like the typical Noir Detective in my Mind. Im with the people who suggested bruce willis as miller a bit sin city like. I think nathan fillion is a bit too old to play holden now I imagined him younger, he definately would have suited in his firefly days, maybe someone like Tahmoh Penikett would be good.
Melanie- "I find myself picturing Holden as the stock male Shepard from Mass Effect. Not really my intention, it just happens on its own."
Funny, I did exactly the same thing with Miller...
I'm going with an all-UK cast (just for the fun of it, please don't shove me out an airlock), so:John Barrowman - Holden
Kenneth Branagh - Miller
Patrick Stewart - Fred
Christopher Eccleston - Dresden
Idris Elba - Amos
Freida Pinto - Naomi
While I was reading the book I only had fairly vague images of the characters but I have to say that I did picture Alex as Joker from Mass Effect and maybe Amos as Seamus Harper from Andromeda. Thinking about the others now I could see Laura Mennell from Alphas as Naomi, and I could see Kristin Kreuk as Julie. I'd also agree with Tahmoh Penikett as Holden, Miller I don't know I see as the kinda stock Detective just really run down
Gina Torres and Adam Baldwin from Firefly are Naomi and Amos for me, but the rest of the characters are kind of in flux. The character descriptions in this books weren't terribly detailed, so I'm having a hard time getting a clear mental image. For whatever reason, Jamie Bamber (Lee Adama from BSG) has been popping into my head as Holden lately. He seems too young and pretty for the part, but I can't think of anyone to replace him. Picturing a greying Paul Blackthorne (The Dresden Files) as Miller; Bruce Willis seems too stocky for a Belter.
Steven wrote: "I did picture Alex as Joker from Mass Effect "Yay, I'm not the only one! I almost never visualize book characters like this, but Joker as Alex popped into my mind almost immediately.
This might be because of Sword & Laser made me read this, but I can't stop picturing Tom Merrit as Holden.
Alexander wrote: "This might be because of Sword & Laser made me read this, but I can't stop picturing Tom Merrit as Holden."And Veronica on stilts as Naomi! Perfect! Well, that's those two parts cast.
Well, it may be a minor part (I only just read this bit now) but the way they describe Sam the mechanic at the beginning of chapter 43, I'm willing to bet cash money that whichever of the Coreys conceived of her had Zooey Deschanel in mind.
Ala--since you mentioned it, I think Gary Oldman would make a great fit for Miller. He can easily transition between reserved/introspective and cold/threatening.

Combined with several others mentioning that this book reads like the literary equivalent of a summer blockbuster, I'm wondering if anyone else is doing this.
Since the start of the book, I've been picturing Matt Bomer as Holden and Liza Lapira as Naomi (Made taller with CGI and/or prosthetics, obviously)
