Some guy is transported to a different world/reality. The thing that sticks in my mind most is a big cube with 3 hill-billies (I think they are sitting on rocking chairs by cube). Read late 80's early 90's

This makes me think of Alan Nourse's "The Universe Between," but I don't remember the hillbillies
Don't think thats it. I'll give it a read and let you know for sure.
I'll add some details maybe that'll help. Guy gets kidnapped in to a different world/ reality. Meets or comes with a woman they search for a way home. There is a big cube (metal I believe). Also 3 old guys (hillbillies). The new world is small size of a small town. only take a week or so to search. SPOILER
The hillbillies know what is going on. They set up the realm as test to be sent on to a new world with the cube being the key.
Okay. Definitely not the Nourse book. Maybe a Simak?
