Luke: Traitor or Hero?
Karina Karina Jul 07, 2012 07:04AM
So, what do you think? Is Luke still a traitor or is he a hero?
I am planning to re-read the series again to find out where this love for Luke is coming from. From my view, he is a traitor. He, Annabeth, Grover and Thalia went through so much together. They fought monsters and.. did everything together and he took their trust, ripped it up and stepped on it. I have a burning hatred towards Luke. I just can’t believe he would hurt his friends like that. I don’t hate him because he hates the gods, trying to kill Percy or even the entire camp (well, trying to kill Percy and the camp did contribute to why I feel this way about him) But what about Annabeth, Grover and Thalia? He went through hell with them. They all saved his life and he saved theirs. They were his family. Family! How could anyone hurt family like that?! He laughed as he tried to kill them. I can’t love him the way others do. He betrayed everyone that loved him.

I feel bad for Luke, he thought he was doing the right thing he was just very angry and easily manipulated. Kronos promised him stuff so he would join his cause. In the end he realized that what he was doing was wrong and he saved everybody. I think that he was a true hero.

I think he was a hero.it's just that he was brainwashed by Kronos.it wasn't his fault 'cause when he realised what he had done he did sacrifice himself to save the world.he was a hero

H-E-R-O!

I think he was a hero, for he hadn't meant to be evil. It wasn't even him controlling what he did. He was very heroic in sacrificing himself and I think that took away from his evil actions.

It's possible to be both a traitor and a hero. Just look at Severus Snape.

In the beginning, I think he was trying to be a hero and do something that would get him fame and be a challenge. Kronus talked him into the plan and it perked his interest. I don't think he meant any real harm.

In the middle of the series, he knew what he was doing. But he didn't stop.

But in the very end, he was a hero. He tried to fight Kronus and sacrificed himself in order to destroy Kronus.

So.. I think Luke was both.

hero, because in the end, he realized where he went wrong and made the ultimate sacrifice to make it right. not many people can do that, except the hero; and even though percy had the potential to do that, in the end it wasn't about him at all.

nooooooooo hero when annabeth was little he took care of her along with thaila, he had heart, her was just jeliuse of percy, and her died to kell kronos

A little bit of both I'm not sure it was totally his fault he turned against his friends.... But he still could have resisted so... both.

i think he is totally a hero.. i loved his character, with all the pain and sadness, but the hidden love.

Luke was a traitor and hero but i like him better as a hero ;)

I'd say, even when he was a tratior, deep down inside he was a hero

HATE HIM but still he accept his wrongs and help at the end ......about 76.6%TRAITOR 23.4% HERO

i think both i agree with emily

Hero, a stupid idiot but a hero all the same.

Neither.

I think He was a hero the entire time

I don't hate him. I pity him. Truth be told he was a tool. And no I don't mean Kronos'. When you think about it if he hadn't done what he did the gods wouldn't have realized the damage their neglect caused their children. His destiny had already been prophesied and there really wasn't anything he could have done to defy it. Well no he did have a choice, and he chose to die. To me he died a hero, he did make a difference, he just happen to do the dirty work without the glory.

I mostly pitied Luke but I think he was a traitor but a hero in the end.

Kronos was EVIL not Luke!

Even though he died to save everyone else I still don't like him. He will always be a traitor in my book.

Are you kidding me? Hero, well i mean I loved his character. He was pretty awesome if you think about it. when I read the ending when he asked Annabeth if she ever actually loved him and she said no I bawled. Literally, I had to stop reading because I was crying so hard. I loved him and then he died. He had to for the book, but it was still sad. :(

in the words of Agent Gibbs form NCIS:
Both

I think that he was just a kid who was brainwashed and blinded by hate/hurt. He knew what the gods were doing was wrong, but he didn't see that the other side was worse. He thought Percy and the others were the naive ones and it wasn't until the end that he realized he was on the wrong side.

both, but mostly hero.

alot of people are saying both, and that truly what I think too. he was a traitor in the beginning, but in the end he was a hero when he sacrificed himself.

Luke was misguided. He was too lost in the thoughts Kronos planted in his mind. I remember Annabeth saying Luke came to visit her. Maybe he was scared and wanted out (Like Annabeth said), but you can't really do anything then your possesed by an evil Titan planning to rule the world.
I say you should put yourself into the character's shoes to really see what happened. So I would say he was misguided at first, too lost in hate, but he came through when he realized the big picture of everything.

He at first was a traitor , but he truly was a hero.( does that make sense?)(i know this is long but pls read!!!!) I mean when he first went over to Kronos' side i dont think he quite realized what he would become -Kronos-. and remember all those times Kronos said that -The Boy Was Fighting His Power-. Once Luke realized what was going on he wanted to get out of it. so much that in the end in one final urge he killed himself to kill Kronos.and if you dont like because of what he did to Annabeth, she herself called him a hero! I LOVE HIM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!thx to those who read this far :)lol

I think he was a hero. He saved Olympus in the end. He was just blinded by evil. It's not really his fault that he turned to the "dark" side. It was his dad, Hermes, fault because he neglected Luke.

Hero. he is like.. a fallen hero. he did some really wrong things , but at the end of the story he regretted it. and i think that sacrifising himself made him a hero.

he died as a hero but lived as a traitor

Sometimes it's "easier" to not think about what's right or wrong. It's easier to hate, but it needs a lot of strength to realize that you did something wrong and to take the action to correct it. So for me he is either hero or traitor - he's just human.

Traitor! Although he did sacrifice himself...

He's a hero. Everything that had happened to him-from becoming Kronos'servant to the person who killed that evil titan-all of that was meant to happen. That is why his father, Hermes, just let all of this to happen because he knew what Luke's role would be-to be the hero in the end.

i thind he was both because he betrayed camp half blood but he killed himself in the end.

He was just misunderstood XD
