Matilda Rose Okay, so I was wondering if anyone else noticed how sad it is that everyone seems to have lost the ability to deal with an emotional crisis.

Every time someone has a break down, starts screaming or crying, they're shot in the arm with a sedative. So many times Katniss had been sedated, when maybe dealing with emotions would have been the best thing.

It starts in The Hunger Games and continues on throughout the whole series. In Mockingjay, when she realises that anything she did would be taken out on Peeta, she breaks down. And I thinks that when she really starts to forgive Haymitch too, and trust someone, but of course she's calmed down with an injection. And then Finnick too.

I don't know why it bothered me so much. But I kept thinking of how awful it would be to have other people trying to control your emotions and outbursts, especially in trauma. I found it one of the big flaws in the Capitol, they can't deal with things. And in strange ways, District 13 was eerily similar to them.

So I'm wondering if anyone else was thinking the same thing as me. Agree, disagree? Anyone have a completely different opinion. I'm interested to see.

I thought it was sooo disappointing!

Taggerung I totally agree! Why not just let their brain work out the problem?!?!? Unless they're insane, it will eventually happen, and guess what, they'll be more mentally stable because they didn't have drugs in their system while trying to process they grief/trauma!!!!! It made me SO angry! Why are Katniss and Finnick getting constantly doped?!?!? So that you can't have them tell you they want the person they love back? Bad excuse. So that they don't hurt you because they're unstable? They're probably at the unstable point because their brains can't process the grief and trauma because of all the dope! So overall, it made sense for the story because the Capitol people don't want to deal with anything unpleasant, and 13 wants everything controlled and regulation normal. However, that doesn't change my opinion that sedation is not how to help someone deal with grief and trauma.

Okay, I'm done ranting....

Yona Excellent point. I think we do this in the real world too. You see a girl crying, what do you do? Try to make her stop, of course. Sometimes we just need to cry, scream, break a plate or two.

Matilda Rose Yeah, reading it opened my mind up to the fact that maybe Suzanne Collins was hinting to our lives in a way, and it kind of creeped me out a bit... She's so good at putting little references like that in.
