Megan | 11 comments I thought this was a Lois Duncan novel--it's got to be someone like that.

This novel had a female protagonist. It was about a group of teens/tweens who are sent to what they believe to be a private school, but they end up in a town where there are no adults. They are forced to create their own rules for their society.

Neither of these fit, exactly, but two that come to mind are The Girl Who Owned a City by OT Nelson and The Grounding of Group Six by Julian Thompson.

Andrea | 5 comments I don't know about the female protagonist part but it might be the Gone series or Gone by Michael Grant

Megan | 11 comments It IS The Grounding of Group 6! And they're making a movie, apparently.

NO WAY!! I love Group 6. Just re-read it this weekend, after your question got me thinking about it again. Will have to research this movie situation. Very exciting!

I just put in a library request for the Group 6 book. Y'all enticed me to check it out.

Kate - it's one of the books I point to when people complain that today's YA books are SO DARK AND EDGY!

They've always been that way.

Polly Thompson | 1 comments Maybe the book you're thinking of is "The Taking of Mariasburg" by Julian Thompson. Girl gets cash, buys town, stuff happens. It just came out in a Kindle ebook edition.
