Call it my counter comparison, if you will, haha.

:) NICE! :D lol

The character building ..."
True! (i also learned more about hunger games in the movie)

Katniss Peeta
Kasta Po
ha-ha :D

I do think it's fair enough to want to compare given the similarities of the protagonists. It's like people comparing the dumbass girl characters in the other popular YA books like Hush Hush and City of Bones. These girls are dull and unrealized so they too are easy to compare though not obviously similar.
Goodreads is one of the only places we get to be silly fangirls about things, just comparing similarities doesn't mean you're picking favourites or saying they're the same or one is as good as the other.
Plus fans of things have been doing it since comic books sooo it's too far gone I think lol.
I agree, Graceling is an underappreciated gem of the genre and though I loved the Hunger Games I think Graceling is much tidier and better over-all.

Katniss Peeta
Kasta Po

Giddon-Gale, haha

And Bitterblue and Primrose are similar as compound words. Plus both Katsa and Katniss are decidedly protective of little girls. It's a pretty strong theme.

Katniss- Kasta
Peeta- Po
Gale- Giddon
Primrose- Bitterblue
7 kingdoms- 12 districts
Kasta protected Bitterblue- Katniss protecting Primrose
However they are completely different genres, THG is dytopian and Graceling is fantasy!! How can you compare books that are in different genres!
P.S Graceling is better XD
EDIT: Ok I guess genre doesn't exactly limit you however they are the same in some ways and different in some ways.

"
...the same way you just did.
Genre doesn't limit you, Eragon is pretty much Starwars while one is Scifi/fantasy and the other is High Fantasy and that hasn't stopped seemingly anyone from drawing that conclusion.
Avatar is essentially Space Pocahontas (Spocahontas if you will) and they're historic and futuristic.
One of the reasons Shakespeare is still popular today is that he wrote about themes and characters that resonate even now years later. It isn't the setting or the genre or even always the story that defines the similarities of one work and another, characters and themes and lessons and just ideas can all be compared in anything.
Hell we're not even limited by medium. I saw a painting the other day that reminded me of a song I like and just yesterday I read a hallmark card that put me in mind of a tv commercial.

HA I guess I'm a hyproctite lol :D But your right genre doesn't really matter I mean look at Avril Lavigne! But ya lets just make movies based on paintings and books based on music. In fact I'm going to start writing a sci fy version of Snow White and make it a CD. ha-ha :D

Po understood Kasta and cared for her and tried to make her open with him despite his grace. Po and Kasta knew how to deal with each others faults. When Peeta and Katniss seemed lost.
Half of Katniss and Peeta's relationship was a lie and took 2 books to turn into something real and then you had the whole love triangle thing so Katniss' heart was constantly divided.
It seemed Katniss couldn't make her own decisions and was constantly being told what to do. Kasta wouldn't have it ha-ha which I really liked about her. Like when she was in love with Po but didn't want to get married Po was okay with that and didn't try to pressure her. Katniss didn't want to have kids but Peeta did and eventually she gave in just to make Peeta happy.
So ya there really is no comparison...because Graceling is well written, perfectly paced, and just plain awesome. Ha-ha :D

I agree with you completely.

I agree too! :) Word for word!

The character building of the Hunger Games is no where near what Cashore has created. Neither, really, is the world building. I learned more about the world from the movie then the book... Admittedly I have only read the first book of the Hunger Games trilogy but I feel like Cashore did all of what Collins did within her entire first book within the first few chapters of any of her three books (Graceling, Fire, and Bitterblue).
Feel free to disagree but I just had to state how tired I am of the comparisons.
